  3. Did bedside for 3 years, now going the crna route. Dont know how anyone can do bedside for 20+ yrs. God bless them for that
  4. Recent grad of an accelerated class, 33 in total ... 7 men and 26 women
  5. I have to wear all white. I need a scrub top with plenty of pockets. I like landau's scrub tops.
  6. Just remember, if a pt feels uneasy to be under your care due to your gender, change assignments! Protect that rn license!
  7. hey everyone, quick question: one of the provisions that i need to satisfy for jan 2012 is 'proof of ccrn certification'. i haven't taken the ccrn exam. i contacted (moderator edit of name - please do not post names and/or initials of names that could possibly identify anyone in your program per tos) and informed him that i have never taken the ccrn exam. he told me that i do need my ccrn certification before jan. is anyone else in the same boat as me?
  8. A colleague of mine just got in to Barry's program. She didn't do well on the 'test', but what really mattered, according to her, was the interview portion. They asked her questions like "Why do you want to be a CRNA?", "Why Barry?", and the other typical questions. She said she felt like she was in a job interview. Just be calm and most importantly be yourself. Good Luck!
  9. When I graduated from Nursing School, I worked on the telemetry floor for the first 2 years before transferring to the ICU. It was challenging, but I was able to hone in on my assessment skills and become more familiar with medications. Since you're a new nurse, I recommend following your senior nurses (the ones who want to teach). As you will see, some nurses just want to punch in, do their shift and punch out. Learn as much as you can. Good luck!
  10. I barely got over a 1000 with my verbal score being 420 (math score was 610). My cumulative gpa was 3.4. I got an interview with a crna school! Don't get discouraged. If it can happen to me, surely it can happen for you. Good luck!
  11. I recently took the GRE in May and the 'untested' section was a math section from the new GRE. The math section in the new GRE format does not have multiple choice questions. All of the answers I had were 'fill in the box' kind of deal. The computations were more complex, but the new format includes an on-screen calculator. Let's just say, I was not a big fan of it. Good Luck!
  12. I agree with what everyone has mentioned. Go straight for your BSN so that you have the requirement to work in an ICU department, get your experience, don't forget you have to take the GRE. Most schools are looking for at least 1000, focusing more heavily on the math section than the verbal. Hope this helps!
  13. Like any Nursing Program, there are the good moments and the bad. No program is 100% perfect. I graduated from UNF's accelerated program a few years back, and I currently work in the CVICU/SICU/MICU. UNF really prepared me to be the nurse that I am today. The teachers are outstanding. You develop a real camaderie with your fellow classmates. Hope this helps!
