  1. Uh, yikes. I agree with whistleblowing to the state and regulatory agencies.
  2. Float pool as a new grad?

So a little BG: Just graduated in January with my BSN (have an undergrad in biology as well), worked at a small community hospital as a student nurse intern in the float pool. Graduated, got my license, and no job. No job prospects. After two months,...
  3. Being a SAHM after graduation

I graduated in Jan. Had my first in Feb. Stayed home for a few months before going nuts and jumped into my first job in May. I work 24 hours a week, second shift and we have a sitter for a few hours between when I leave and when my husband gets home....
  4. RN Salary Survey 2013: Post here!

  5. Impossible Family Member

We've got a family removing their loved one from our facility because our doc refuses to prescribe Imodium for her loose stools...she has Cdiff. So they said they would bring it in and give it to her themselves. The doc called and talked to them abou...
  6. You gotta love them!

The activity aide was wrong... the correct answer was obviously wine.
  7. Relationship Between Unmarried Residents.

Wow. No advice. What a tough situation. I hope you find a solution soon- keep us posted!
  8. Where are all the nurses?

Thank you! Yup that's where I was at. I actually just got hired at a LTC facility.
  9. Where are all the nurses?

Just graduated with my BSN. I'm in northern RI very close to Fall River. Tons and tons of hospitals around, applied for about 30 positions with not even one call back. The job market is rough up here-i'm surprised you haven't been able to find any qu...
  10. New grad advice: psych?

I am a new grad with a BSN and also a BS in biology. My long term goal is to go back to become an FNP and work in primary care. The job market where I live is absolutely horrible- there are hardly any jobs and even those in LTC want 1+ year of exper...
  11. Every weekend jobs

I'm a new grad looking to work every weekend. Are these jobs few and far between, or something to bring up to HR and/or unit managers? I worked as a student nurse intern at a hospital and they're always short staffed on weekends. Just curious what yo...
  12. Every weekend jobs

Has anyone heard of new grads getting per diem positions?
  13. Every weekend jobs

Thanks for your input. The nursing market here in Rhode Island is brutal. Mostly all postings don't want new grads. Even those (like myself) who worked as student nurses- it doesn't count as experience
  14. Every weekend jobs

I've got a 6 week old so that is the exact reason i'm looking into it. I'm not too excited about the idea because of the reasons you listed plus never seeing my husband. But it might be a good idea for a little while...
  15. Admission to RIC

yes- GPA is reset when you start taking classes at RIC. They will look at that one to decide if you're above 3.0 or not, not the GPA you have now. What they will look at from your previous school is the grades you got for your prerequisite courses. G...
  16. Rhode Island College School of Nursing-- BSN Program

I was told that the science pre-reqs are looked at more heavily than gen eds. GPA is the #1 thing they look at.
  17. ADN or BSN and NICU

CCRI at night.. and definitely wouldn't bank on being able to get into a NICU without experience and/or BSN...
  18. Rhode Island College School of Nursing-- BSN Program

TEAS to my knowledge is just an indicator on your basic knowledge. They've done nothing with it I don't think. I actually did very poorly on it (not sure how) but have done fine in all my nursing courses so far. If you decide to just take two, you pu...
  19. Rhode Island College School of Nursing-- BSN Program

Hi! Have you heard whether or not you've been accepted?! I took all four courses and I was SO glad I did. It's challenging, but it is by no means impossible. You will put a lot more effort and time into 223 and 224, but honestly 220 and 222 are not d...
  20. Rhode Island College School of Nursing-- BSN Program

Silvestri, you sound just like me when I applied last October. I was also a second degree with all the prerequisites completed with A's and B's. I got into the program first try. Message me if you have any other questions.

  22. Who applied to RIC for Spring 2012?!

Yep- I will be at the testing from 9-12 and then I guess there is a meeting afterwards. As far as I know it's just basic math and reading comprehension. Good luck with all the preparation and with the semester!!
  23. Who applied to RIC for Spring 2012?!

Congrats to you too! Yes- it feels amazing and I'm so excited! I am a 2nd degree so I petitioned to take 223 and 224 also, but still haven't heard anything. I bought the books for it and stuff so we'll see! And i'm sure we'll bump into each other! I ...
