  1. Hi r mari, I was very intimidated by the NCLEX-PN, too. I found doing practice questions helped me relax and got me more into "study mode" than reading out of a book. Once I did a bunch of questions, I was then motivated to read some chapters out of Saunders or look over the various study guides from the front of Exam Cram or printed out from here on allnurses. Nothing, however, is more motivating than actually scheduling your exam! Make a date and then don't do what I did, which was reschedule four times! Now that I've taken the test and passed (85 questions), I can tell you that all the hours I spent studying were very informative and I think will make me a more knowledgeable beginning nurse, but I don't think I needed that many hours to pass the NCLEX. I will not make that mistake when I go to take my NCLEX-RN. You are probably ready to test since you just finished a review course. If pressure from family and friends is making you pull away from this test, you might consider not telling anyone your test date. You can then surprise them when you get the good pop up from Pearson Vue after the fact. And you probably will get the good pop-up, because most people do! Good luck to you, future nurse! :)
  2. ... and LPNs/LVNs !!!
  3. hi at ronalyn14, if you are getting a message from pearsonvue saying that you passed, you may now pop open the bubbly as you most certainly have passed the nclex! they changed the wording of the "good pop-up" last weekend, ending all our tortured speculation. official result won't be far behind. congratulations, nurse!!
  4. I tested on Sept. 8th and got the old "good pop up" as well as the new pop-up saying I passed. Today I received my letter from the CA BVNPT saying I PASSED! YAY!!!! So for those testing in California, it took about 18 days to get my official letter. Congrats to all on this thread who are now NURSES! YAY for us!!! We did it!!!! :anpom::ancong!::anpom::hhmth::lvan:  :yelclap: :redbeathe
  5. Hi Rich, I heard that it's taking about 4 weeks right now. I'm on week 2.5 and still haven't heard anything yet (tested 09/08/11). But getting the "recently passed" pop-up from Pearson Vue was almost as good as getting the results from the BVNPT! Congratulations, Nurse!!! :)
  6. i took mine over two weeks ago here in cali and haven't checked since the day after. even though i have never heard of the pvt being wrong, there still was a little doubt when i originally saw the old "good pop-up." thanks to you all on this thread, i just went and checked again, and sure enough, i too, am seeing that i definitely passed!!!!! what a huge relief and great blessing! that was so kind of them to change the wording and just let us know one way or the other. maybe they got sick of people calling and asking if the "trick" really works!!! anyway, thank you for letting us all know about the change! congratulations, nurses!!!!!! :redpinkhe :redpinkhe :[anb]: :smiley_aa
  7. Hi Success 2011, I had a lot of anxiety before the NCLEX, too, and studied for months just like you. Good job! You are ready to test with that kind of studying backing you up. As far as the tutorial goes, I will tell you from my experience that I found it to be a great blessing. I actually found myself silently thanking God, Pearson Vue and the NCLEX people for providing it, not because I needed to become familiar with the format (after months of studying I knew what it was going to be like) but because I was nervous going in and focusing on the silly tutorial questions helped me relax and eventually focus on what I was doing BEFORE the real questions started. If I had bypassed that tutorial, I am certain I would not have had a clear head for my first few actual test questions. P.S. I think you are going to do great! God bless you ! :)
  8. So how was it??? Did you do the PVT?
  9. Congratulations, futurehealthcarewrkr and now NURSE!!! :ancong!: :hrnsmlys::balloons:
  10. Wait, I take that back. I did very much like the pull-out guide that came in the front of Exam Cram. It helped me to learn importat lab values and I carried it with me everywhere, along with the My Chicken Hez TB paper from this site.
  11. Hi there, I think Saunders is a great resource for re-familiarizing yourself with content. Do some of the end of chapter questions for each chapter to help pinpoint areas you may be weaker in. Use the cd, too, and pay particular attention to the alternate format questions, to get a feel for them. I would also recommend the Kaplan book which you can either purchase or sign out from the library, and pay particular attention to the Test-Taking Strategies section. These are very helpful and you will use them. In addition, do find the Kaplan Question Trainers on slideshare websites. They are free and valuable. You can cover up the answers as you go along and keep track of your own score to see the percentage you are getting right. Above 60% is supposed to be a good indication you will pass the test. Try to mix it up from all your different resources so you are getting between 50 and 100 questions each day. By the end of three weeks, you could do over 2100 questions if you are consistant. If you have the money, Kaplan QBank is an excellent tool as well, and costs around $150. It might be less if you don't want the book which is included. (The book included with the QBank is NOT the book you can buy in the store. I prefer Saunders to the one that comes with the QBank. And I prefer the one in the stores to the one from the QBank, too.) I did end up buying the Lacharity book and after awhile the questions became very easy for me, which was a bonus skill! I'll save that book for NCLEX-RN, too! Some people love Exam Cram but it really did nothing for me. Personal choice, I guess! Good luck!! :)
  12. They make the LVNs wait. The RNs get theirs in days. We have to wait... and wait... Thank goodness for the PVT!!! :loveya::loveya::loveya::yelclap:
  13. sadtrickresult-----Now you have to change your screen name!
  14. Hey, Congratulations! You did it!! :ancong!: :smiley_aa
  15. You did it!! Congratulations, ilocano nurse!!!!! :ancong!: :w00t:
  16. Well, my friend, in this case you have two options: 1) Do the PVT and know one way or the other. You will either celebrate and feel tons better, or you will know you need to get back to the books. 2) If you don't want to do the PVT, your only other choice is to STOP thinking about it and put it out of your head. Since I personally found this to be impossible (though some people can do it) and to me you sound like you are still stressing about it, I refer you back to option 1. Remember, we can't predict this test, everyone's test is completely different, and we have no idea how they score these things or even which questions counted toward our score. You may very well have done much better than you are thinking. Most people do! If you do the PVT, let us know how you did! You could be all smiles today!!!
  17. oh my gosh!!!!!!!!! i am soooo happy for you!! yay! yay!!! you did it! i knew you would!!! i kept checking back here waiting to see what you got on the pvt. you kept the suspense by making me scroll down to read the bottom of your post! lol!!! congratulations, my friend! and god bless you in all your future nursing endeavors! he is so good! so happy for you!!!!!! :anpom: :ancong!: :nmbrn:
  18. How did it go, Upstate? What did the PVT say? Wishing you all the very best!!
  19. "this is just my opinion.. i guess guys it better to make a study plan first.. then if you have it.. develop a routine.. consider it as a fun.. a game..(like me i got 4 colors of pen..red,black,green and blue.. i must use each for 25question.. which ever pen got the high score.. i rewarded the pen to answer in my short test using it alone..on my review my book and my pen are my best friend and i treasure it." schalke20, you are just too cute!thanks for sharing and for the smiles!:);)
  20. I'll be praying for you, Upstate! God bless!
  21. Hi luvmysoldier! If you've been studying and have a good general knowledge, you are going to be fine. I'm sure you've been doing lots of practice questions to prepare? Like the Candidate Bulletin says, read the questions carefully, and read the answers carefully, too. Have a rationale for picking your answer. BE CALM! I swear I did not know anyone who stressed out about this test as much as I did, but I did the best I could and guess what? It was good enough (at least according to the PVT!). On the other hand, I have read on here about plenty of people who hardly study at all and yet pass. That's just not my style at all but good for them, I guess! The test is pretty much impossible to describe but it is certainly do-able. Most people pass on the very first try. You can, too! Best of luck to you! :) P.S. We love your soldier, too! He is one of our heros!! Tell him (or her) thanks for me!! :redbeathe
  22. I think doing the practice questions was very helpful in learning content. It actually helped me learn the content better than just reading out of a book. Good luck to you on Tuesday! :)
  23. Oh, I forgot to ask you. Do you have a testing center near your house but you have to go to Syracuse because that's where the next test date is available? I don't know how it works where you are, but here you can check on Pearson Vue anytime of any day for an opening at a different test center. It changes by the minute as people are frequently cancelling/changing their test dates. When you check, don't push "Unschedule." Instead, push "Reschedule" and it will allow you to just browse without losing the date you already have. If you see some other time slot you like at a testing center closer to you, you can change it on the spot.
  24. Hi Upstate! Gosh, that is one tough test to describe. Every one said that before, but now I know what they meant. Some of it you def need to know your content details, but other parts you just have to use your best nursing judgment from the selections offered. Now that I've taken the test, it seems essential to be calm and read the questions carefully and also read the answers carefully. Have a good rationale for why you are picking your answer choice. I actually think some of the SATA were easier than the single answer questions. I was thinking about you yesterday, sorry to hear about your cancelled test. I wrote to you on your other post. The two weeks will fly. I would continue to study the prototype meds and the common diseases they are used for. In fact, I plan to do this myself anyway because I feel the clients are counting on us to know this stuff and there's like 90,000 meds out there! Have you reviewed the Kaplan critical thinking/test-taking strategies? I think they are quite helpful.
