Sounds like you are just nervous. Your grades seem high enough to get into programs. I would apply to 2-3 to be safe.

Don't be discouraged. Apply to Georgia Southern along with other schools maybe some ASN programs. Your grades seem fine but how is your test score (TEAS, HESI, etc)?

Congrats on being accepted. The same instructor that handled the Hybrid 2015 program is handling the Hybrid 2017 program. They also drastically reduced the number of people accepted into the program. We originally started out with about 48 and graduated about 20. Everyone I know that graduated has passed NCLEX on the first attempt. The program is manageable but requires a lot of dedication on your part for studying on your own. The lectures are primarily videos and not in person. Good luck.

State approval is separate from accreditation from CCNE or ACEN. State approval allows you to test for NCLEX while CCNE/ACEN may affect any post graduate work you seek. Herzing is CCNE accredited as of 9/17/2014. They also currently have initial approval from the Georgia BoN. Initial approval is for new programs. Be weary of programs that only have conditional approval.

Does anyone know if Sacred Heart in Pensacola has annual job fairs or anything similar for RNs? I'm looking to network before moving down there. I know a lot of times they advertise the fairs to local schools. Thanks

I know more than a handful of nurses that have been hired at Grady with only ASN's (not from Atlanta Tech). The bottom line is will the program prepare you to successfully pass the NCLEX. Grady has a very generous tuition reimbursement program for RN-BSN completion programs. I would suggest looking into the NCLEX pass rate of programs. The pass rates can be viewed at http://sos.ga.gov/PLB/acrobat/Forms/38%20Reference%20-%20Nursing%20Education%20Program%20Results%20(NCLEX).pdf I would call Atlanta Tech and ask if they have clinical rotations at Grady. This would allow you to network and to also see if Grady might be a good fit for you.

I was also accepted. I'm hoping to set up a carpool of people in the Atlanta area.

The key here is to read the application for licensure. Does it ask if you have ever been arrested or does it ask if you have been convicted?

I wouldn't think it would be a waste of time but I do think you should look at a few things first. I think you should see how competitive the job market is and base your judgement on that. If you live in a super competitive market then the facility probably won't waste time hiring someone pending a license when they have other candidates that are already qualified. The facility would also run the risk of you not being able to obtain a license by endorsement for some unforeseen circumstances.

Some states allow nurses from bordering states to practice with only a license from their home state. It might be worth your time to call the nursing board to find out.

I don't believe that Atlanta Metro College has a nursing program. I think they only offer a pre-nursing program. I start my ASN in January so I'll be looking to relocate to Pensacola from Atlanta afterwards. My wife still has family in the area and would like to move back.

It's my understanding that the program is consecutive. I've known folks that completed the RN-Bridge program that is similar in schedule (1 day a week) and it was consecutive.

The hybrid program only starts on odd years. The hybrid program is the one/two day a week program. The traditional program requires attendance every day. DSC: Nursing | Programs - Albany Track Students are accepted into the Albany track three times each year: Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. I'm not sure if the website is wrong or whomever you spoke with is misinformed. You can view the course schedule all the way back until Fall 2012 in MyDC.

That is the traditional program. The hybrid course has an extended daily schedule (9a-7p). It actually combines your clinical time plus course time (NURS 1101 & 1105 first semester).

There are 30 seats in the NURS 1101 class that is scheduled for the Spring 2015 hybrid program according to MyDC. I would assume they would fill all of the seats.

CGriff, What part of the state will you be driving from?

It looks like the program will be on every Monday starting out according to MyDC. Clinical is usually held on the same day. Students usually attend clinical and then go to campus for the testing. I believe the program requires 2 days a week on the last semester.

I would say apply to both programs. It is always good to have a back up plan. Have you applied to Darton's hybrid program? This might be your best bet that allows you to still work full-time if needed. Darton's ASN program is 40 hours spread over 5 semesters. This does not include the pre-req's. The ASN program requires about 30 hours of pre-req. Their RN-BSN program is 30 hours of actual courses. The BSN program also has about 27 additional hours of pre-req courses that typically are not completed for the ASN program. You should also plan on having a semester or two between completing your ASN and the beginning of the RN-BSN program due to the timeline of obtaining your state license. It is typically faster to complete a full BSN program versus an ASN then an RN-BSN program. However, the advantage to the ASN is that it allows you to work as an RN sooner.

You might want to check out Georgia Southern's RN-BSN program. I believe the only on-campus requirement is orientation but I am not certain.

It is an associates level nursing program. The program is a hybrid of online and in person learning. Most of the academics are taught online while the testing and clinical requirements are completed once a week.
