PERRLA, is it worth it?
while i was in Nursing school we had to write so many papers and I acant tell you how much time this saved me!! It was truely a belssing to have this, you basically type the appropriate stuff in the boxes and it formats the paper for you. My best friend and I went in half and half on it and were both able to use it . I dont think you will be disapointed. Alison

Seizures
YES I agree with the above poster! Apply Oxygen and call 911. I know as the day Charge Nurse in Assisted Living we were not able to have oxygen there on hand I was lucky enough to not have that as an issue, but maybe your facility is different. That was one issue i had there was I had no o2 or even sat monitors and that comes in handy when you have pt's with respiratory issues! Alison

AF healthcareage recruiters..... age clarification please.....
luvbabynursing-- i have been around the miliraty all my life and have since thought about going in AF as my husband is active duty as we speak. I was told, that any age is waverable "if they are in need of your job" and nursing is one job that they are truley hurting for. Like suzanne stated i would ask a reciuter, there may even be info on thier web site. As for the bonus hat is true and it depends on the time you sign on for as to how much the bonus will be. Out2years--I spent 10 years in Alaska and if the military told me we had to leave tomorrow I would be packed and ready to head back!! It is absolutley gorgeous there. We lived in Faribanks where it is extremly cold, I can remember 18 days of 55 below or colder in February. Anchorage soesnt get as cold in the winter, I guess is you call 20 below "not cold". They also dont get as warm in the winter either. I would think that you would have NO PROBLEM getting a job there are a ton of DR offices , a big hospital and the have API whic is a psych hospital. I guess it just depends on what you want to do for work, there are many options there. As for the weather I bet the first year will be harder than the rest, its hard to get used to the dark and the extreme cold but im sure you will love it. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me I would love to chat with you Alison

Can you have a water bottle during the exam
I think it depends on the facitlity that you go to, I was able to wear my watch and bracelet and I had a hooded sweatshirt they let me wear. But they did look at them before I went in to make sure there was nothing that would be considred cheating on them or in the pockets. I did however have to take my watch off and not wear a jacket when I took LPN boards, and this was in another state from RN boards. But believe me they will tell you what they will allow and not allow. Being that there are computers that you are taking the test on I doubt if any place will allow drinks int he room. Good luck! Question about MA's in ohio
She has never called herself a nurse, in the office but she refers to herself to others as dr so and so's nurse. Being a nurse myself know that injections dont take rocket science and I guess that was just one thing i honed in on, but she states that she does the assessments on these children as well as "all the other things the RN's in the office dont know how to do"? She states that Nursing school is a waste of time for her as she knows more than any nurse she knows. So thats what got me thinking, I wonder what her realm of care actually is? I wasnt sure and figured this would be the forum to ask! Thank you guys again for your sound knowledge . I appreciate it!

Question about MA's in ohio
She is an immediate family memeber, she went thru no school. So It seems from what suzzanne posted that she is able to work as an MA, under the liscense of the Doctor, but not a certified one. That makes more sense, but boggles my mind that they are allowed to give injections with just some OJT. The other thing that annoys me, since i have worked very hard for my RN degree, is that she tells people she is a "nurse", or if people see her in scrubs, and refer to her as a nurse, she doesnt correct them??? Sorry for the ranting, I just was a little annoyed. But thank you all for your kind words helps me better understand the situation.

Question about MA's in ohio
I have a questionabout MA's working in Ohio? I know of a person who works ina very reputable Clinic in ohio. She is working for a doctor as a "certified Medical Assistant". That is her title, yet she has NEVER been to any schooling for this, carries no degree or certificate from MA school? She is working with children and I was wondering how in this instance is she able to do this? Are they allowed to employ you as an MA just on your word? She is also giving injections, what they are exactly I am not sure but she is doing it?? Please enlighten me if you have any answeres I would love to hear them?? This just boggles my mind.

Waiting lists in SLC/Ogden area?
Just wanted to let you know, My husband is miliatry and were stationed at Hill AFB, I graduated from Weber State and thier RN program. There are a few colleges there in the area. There is Davis Applied Technology college, you can do the LPN program thru them and then as long as grades aregood, you can spin right into Weber's RN program, they have a contractual agree ment. I would definaley reccomend this program. When we moved there I looked around and spoke with hospitals and they stated they would hire a DATC student anyday. The waiting lists are long for both places, so I would apply now and star on your prereq's if you havent done that already!!!DATC is an accelaratged program and it is a lot cheaper than Weber. I was accepted into both programs, but choose DATC b/c I would finish in 18 months with my RN and being Military you never know how long you will be in one place, I was aceepted to two other colleges before we got there and we left before i could start. I was the class presisnet of both LPN and RN classes, so I can get you the names and numbers of the ladies you need to speak too!! I wish you the best of luck, Please PM me if you need any further help with this!! Alison :balloons:

questions about Air Force nursing
Hello, I am a nurse and my husband is in the Air Force, I too looked inot this and I cant tell you there are pluses to the job, but there are alot of negatives as well. I'll try to answer all your questions truefully as I followed a nurse to see if this was for me. 1. COt i think you are meaning Officers Training, you have to have a bachelors in Nursing first, then you go to OTS, there is physical fitness tests you must pass but they are mostly running and sit ups those sort of things. I dont think swimming is one. 2. The commision, not enlistement b/c you are an officer i was told depends on you, it is like a contract you agree to work for them for so long. 3. The AF is probably the safest branch of the military, not many nurses are deployed much but there are a few, but you have to be willing to move. You could live anywhere there is an AF base and they have a clinic. 4. I think you do M-16 training, you are taught in OTS how to fire and then have to maintain that?? This is the one question i am not 100% sure on. 5.You can have an AF life and Family likfe, but it is more of everyone being able to give and take. The military expects alot from you as well as the family and it is a very big commitment. I have been military (AF) all my life i was born into it, so it was alot easier for me i didnt know any other way of life, but everyone is effected by the moves and the deployments and the TDY's. 6. I personally have think the AF was wonderful for me. I have expereinced things amny others have not, lived in germay signed the berlin wall, (while it was still there), Shopped in East Germany (when there still was one), traveled to many places at a very young age. But this is a very serious life changing decision, they recruiters arent always the best people to speak to as thier goal is to get you on board and sometimes they will do or say what ever it takes to do that! I wish you the best of luck !! ALi:cheers:

I was the president of our nursing class and for our LPN and RN year, for the LPN graduation we got very nice frames and had a class picture which a classmates hubby took (saved alot of money ) since we all know how broke we are in school LOL:chuckle , then for our RN class we got them ingraved plagues with a saying, the year nursing design and then thier name at the bottom, that way they could hang it in thier office and remember our class. They really loved them! Hope this helps! Ali:balloons:

LPN versus CMA
I have to agree with the above poster. I work in a facility where there are CMA. I am an LPN, I am the nurse in charge and we work together, but they are not higher than me?? I cant imagine where this would be since they dont have nearly the same schooling?

Phasing out LPN's.
I have a question, sorta off the subject, But i know of a person who works ina prominent clinic in ohio. She has NO medical training, or education other than working in a Dr's office as a receptionist. She is now working as an MA and I was wondering if anyone knew how this could be? Arent MA's required to get some type of certification??? Im just wonder what would happen if JACHO were to inspect, wouldnt there be issues that would arise if they looked at her record and saw no MA certification??

Mom's And Nursing School
I am not a single mother, I have a wonderful husband who helped me thru school, every single day. When i started pre-req's i was a single mother, after leaving an abusive husband! I love being a mother and never put my education aside. I personally was in a place (Alaska, and military) where i was unable at the time to finish my degree, but as soon as the chance was available i returned full force! I think that no matter what your choices were prior, going to school, bettering yourslef is very commendable. Does it really matter why these women are single? I think sinlge moms get a bad enough rap!! Work hard and you will prevail!:)

Mom's And Nursing School
I too am a mother of Four :) and graduated as an RN in december! You can do it and you will be so proud of yourself for your accomplishments, as will your children. The will learn that everyone even mom has to work hard to get what they desire, they will learn what is really important,an education that you will have for years as oppsed to a game boy that they will outgrow. I wont say that there arent hard times, you will be stressed and tired, but remember what the end goal is, that will be the motivation to keep going! When you graduate you will have stories to tell future nurses that will come to your for quidance!! :chuckle Good luck and Happy Studying!:balloons: Alison
