  1. I’m having a personal dilemma with guiding my nurse friend. So as an RN in the state of Florida. So as a friend of mine went family camping one of their children’s friends went camping with them. As the child opened their backpack a lovenox injection fell out. After speaking with the child and their reaction it is very apparent this child had no idea where it came from, how it got there, or why. My friend knows the immediate family background one parent did IV drugs the other parent got a restraining order against them when they discovered the situation and they have no contact with them neither do the kids. I know if you have a nurse patient relationship you would have to report it. Not having that relationship does it require you to make a report? Would you properly dispose of the syringe or would you call Dcf to file a report and hand it over to them? Thank you in advance for helping me guide my nurse friend ?
  2. From one adult with adhd to another, I make lists for myself so I remember where I left off. I’m training in the OR as we speak so I don’t have much advice under my belt except encouraging you not to say anything to your manager about having adhd as many stereotype you. I learned that the hard way in nursing school. ♥️
  3. I can tell you I’m in Florida and only 2 hospitals on my coast offer the program. I’ve applied 31 times and with 3+ years of RN experience I just got offered a position. So my advice is to keep applying regardless of how many times you’ve applied. If this is your passion keep applying. I know it’s hard but when the timing is right you will get your opportunity ??
  4. I’m hoping everything has improved as my Periop 101 will begin soon
  5. I caught new neuro changes (very subtle if you're with the pt less than 5 minutes they could be overlooked) I knew something wasn't right, called the dr multiple times, who refused to do anything. I narrowed s/s down to mini stroke or absent seizures. Ended up calling a rapid, the resident on the team ordered a neuro consult (whom I called immediately..yes during the rapid) thankfully neuro listened and ordered a stat ct of the brain. Critical results returned pt was having both mini strokes & absent seizures. At the end of the day I will always follow my instincts.
  6. I would definitely contact the board of nursing for your state. These problems happen everywhere and if they are unaware of the issue they cannot fix it. Just a tip that I learned on my own - never rely on others to correct the situation/report it or rumors. I relied on my DON, she failed to follow through, I then depended on the head of the school to correct the issues, failed to follow through, I had a hearing with the board of the school, failed to acknowledge the issues and I was the one suffering in the end. I let the board of nursing know and now they are correcting the issues because they have their approval to teach nursing education on the line. Honestly, I would encourage you to learn from my mistake and make that phone call right away! Sorry to see others are going through similar issues. Very disheartened
  7. Have you tried a study group up to 4 classmates and taking turns going over key things you got out of lecture then before going to the next chapter/subject let the other members chime in about the key points that they got and you might have missed etc? This helped me tremendously. I believe it was Jean Watson who stated the highest level of understanding is teaching. Please don't quote me but I know I learned this in Fundamental's of Nursing in the history section regarding Nursing Theory.
  8. The only this I have found visually to help me is watching videos on youtube, using nursing notecards, and nursing mneumonic notebooks and searching on pinterest (i will post a link to a site i found typing in nursing student, nursing school, nursing mnewmonics, etc) Nursing School: Medical Surgical Nursing Mnemonics
  9. It was nice meeting everyone Monday! Now only if Financial Aid would quit playing games with me I would be anxious to get this party started! They seem like a great set of professors and all seem to have great ratings on ratemyprofessors....as long as we stay away from facebook it looks like it will be smooth sailing minus the actual demands of the program/mental stress lol.
  10. Who is your enrollment person there? I have my fingers crossed for you! Good Luck! =)
  11. I would be happy to be your company =] It sure beats being there alone! ((And honestly I think people on here think more like myself as far as being proactive and really wanting this as much as I do)) Maybe a study buddy too.
  12. I was expecting it to be expensive but when I found out that I was going to be taking 2 courses below the higher level I took for my AA, I felt it was ridiculous not to be able to test out of them. IE API&II but I had to take intro to Human body and something else I took.... Anyway it's not about the path you take to get where you need to be in life, it's the matter of getting there I wish you luck and pray that a seat will open for you guys when Connie gets back from vacation this week....I was lucky to get a call from her Tuesday and played tag with her thru Weds afternoon before deciding to go up there to speak with her (but caught her leaving for the day bc she was ill), lucky for me her superviser helped me and put me with the Director of nursing to get my couple of questions answered before accepting my seat. I was told the letters are still coming in from those who applied to both programs and rejected a seat. Your Teas and GPA's weren't far from mine so to me that would look like your next on the list.
  13. Ok. I am a Student at PHCC West Campus and have met the criteria for the Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Fall 2013 for both the LPN and RN programs. You are able to take the test a total of 3 times between January 1st and December 31st of the same year but there must be at least 30 days in between testing dates. ALL TEAS test scores are valid for 2 years from the date that they are taken. (My test scores from August 2011 are still valid thru August 2013). YOU can pick your best TEAS score and make a copy of it to put with your application packet. SO, if you want to apply to the RN program and the LPN program during the same application period you can submit the same test score with both application packets. I did 2 applications 1 for LPN and 1 for RN (Total of $50.00 in application fees) and there were 2 locations for RN and 3 for LPN (due to night and weekends during fall semester for LPN at west campus). All lpn applications are in one stack and all rn applications are in another stack. When the nursing selection committee meets they rank pile of applications by residency, pre-req score (for rn and rn bridge), and teas score. Then they go from the highest ranking student down the list thru the number of seats that they have available. Those selected must return their packet within ___ days to accept their seat or they go to the next person on the list. I got 2 rejection letters friday but got a phone call Tuesday afternoon stating a seat became available in the LPN program and I accepted it. ((They said there were way more applicants this semester than anticipated but most applied to both and got accepted into both but had to return their seat choice so the one they didn't want would become available to another student)) So there is no need to apply at both campuses. One campus and one application per program is all that you need to do if your willing to go into one program or the other. I hope this helps.
  14. Well, I got accepted into the LPN program for West campus! :) My name is Tiffany and I will be 27 years old in 2 weeks....I am a mom to 2 boys (ages 4 1/2 and almost 9). I am excited to begin this new chapter of my life and would like to learn a lot but also have some level-headed friends as classmates to be able to enjoy this experience with as well as potentially studying together!
  15. I received my packe in the mail Friday afternoon and was devestated that I received 3 denial letters in that envelope. Today I get a phone call asking me to accept a seat into the LPN program at West Campus!!! I am MORE than happy to accept it knowing that I will be one step closer to where I want to be.
