  1. I am aware of hospitals that are providing massages to staff and encouraged to go during their breaks. They are also offering via a nourishment cart (muffins, danishes, coffee, tea, etc.) I think three times per week to staff. These hospitals are better funding and have a happier morale.
  2. Someone once told me, "regardless of where you go, all nurse managers know each other"...
  3. So many!...thanks!
  4. Don't know if they do it everywhere in the U.S. but I heard the nurses "clock in and out" their shifts and breaks too. Similar to a factory worker.
  5. I have worked in many different areas of nursing and at many facilities. Some medical floors have 2 hours, Emerg 1.5, ICU 3, Psych 3 ...etc. It depends on the floor and the facility. And then there are lots of days and nights where you are so busy, you have none! My current manager refuses to pay overtime even though many nurses are still charting 2 to 3 hours after their shift! Point is, we are not Nightingales out in the trenches! Don't kill yourself over nursing!
  6. Just an another example of nurses not supporting one another. Nursing is not a 24 hour job!!!! Normally 8 to 12 hours and you have breaks! If you could work for 24 hours, you would not be a human being! Do your shifts change from days to nights every 2 weeks like mine? No one is paying for my break. Most people I know sleep during their night breaks, just like doctors, respiratory therapists, cops and many other professions! Stop acting like nurses are "superheroes"! This is the reason why nursing is the highest rated in all professions for BURN OUT!!!
  7. But if you are on your break, whether it is day shift or night, it should be no ones business what you are doing especially if no one is paying for your break IMO. And, studies have shown that people while at work who take naps actually perform better. Why would you enforce someone to be wide awake for a 12 hour night shift when your body naturally wants to shut down? And, if you are the kind of person who prefers to stay awake then do that. Another example...just because I choose to get a "nurses bladder" (Nurses who don't have time to void because they are too busy"), does not make me a better nurse or one who is more dedicated. Your health comes first! If you were hired to do straight nights, your body can get used to it. But my full time schedule requires me to switch every 2 weeks from days to nights! Do you know how harmful that it to your body? Do you think I chose nursing as a self sacrifice?
  8. Did you pass this time? How many times do they allow you to do the NCLEX?
  9. Thanks!...will use these to study too!
  10. Thanks a lot! I am considering Hurst review also since it seems many people like that rather than reading a book. I remember on the exam too!...lots of Infection Control, Delegation/Prioritization questions but also a lot of Meds! Maybe because Meds is my greatest weakness?
  11. In my Saunders book it says: 1. IV fluids. 2. Oxygen. 3. Morphine. 4. Penicillin. Looks like there were previous problems with this question: https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/sickle-cell-crisis-410226.html
  12. Highly recommend Saunders Comprehensive Review. I have the 5th edition and bought it online on the Chapters website. I previously did the Kaplan course then failed NCLEX. I recently bought Saunders and I'm now going through the chapters. I notice the book highlights everything that was on my exam and pinpoints areas to pay special attention to. It has an amazing 'question and answer' CD in the back of the book with thousands of questions.
  13. Thanks Rod. Unfortunately I cannot pm you because I haven't gotten 15 posts as yet. I have been searching for the best travel agencies through other forums and personal reviews. You are right though; I may not be a "travel nurse". They do have job fairs here in Toronto with U.S. recruits and some go through the immigration process with you, assign a placement and moving expenses if the hospital decides to hire you. I am not aware of the "Tax Advantage" that you are speaking of but I guess it is similar to the evaluation comparison of travel nursing agencies on the site Highway Hyperdermics. I called a lot of agencies and found out, most will not go through the immigration and TN Visa process with you which is what I was hoping for.
  14. Thanks for the link! I'm not sure when I will do the exam. Thought I should do more studying first before I pay the money for booking. Looking for an agency (ie. American Mobile) that will recruit me so they can help me through the process and get me a job. I plan on going again through Minnesota. As soon as I have my licence I plan to buy a house in Southeast Florida.
  15. I just looked it up. Never heard of the NCSBN before. I had taken the Kaplan in-class course 3 times before attempting the NCLEX and failing. Are you also doing your NCLEX in Toronto? Do you recommend the NCSBN online course? I was going to try a tutor but she charges $1000 for 16 wks. NCSBN sounds a lot cheaper.
