I have taken prerequisites at Lehman.. there's only one prereq you need special permission to take from the nursing department and that's one of the HIN ones.. HIN268 I think. The other HIN listed you can do after you are admitted to the program (that info is 2 yrs old though so don't take my word).. as for the other prerequisites they're challenging at Lehman..I've done anatomy 1 at two different colleges and it was more challenging at Lehman. On the other hand I found chemistry at Lehman to be well organized and straight forward. The organic lecturer is excellent but that one was challenging for me.. namely because you must follow the plot in lecture and I would arrive after a night shift at 9am so it was hard taking in the material feeling like that. Don't overload your schedule if you chose to do prerequisites at Lehman. Yes you do have to be admitted to the college to apply to nursing school. I strongly advise you walk into the nursing dept or call them and make an appointment with an advisor. In the last year or 2 there have been changes with the nursing school, as well as changes in leadership so I'm actually checking in myself this week to make sure my information is current.

I looked up Chamberlin a while ago - reason is because a male nursing student who got a job quickly after graduating went there (I'm in NYC). He was bilingual though and make so I think that helped him get a job a lot. I did some digging and found they're not accredited in NYC just NJ and as a previous poster said v new and no NCLEX Pass rates posted yet. i felt similarly to you before I got some results for my prerequisites I felt is failed and was v worried, I thought maybe I'd do better at NYU where prerequisites are part of the generic nursing route and everything's spoon fed to you/ more support. That would have a similar price tag to Chamberlin $80k-$90k I think. Keep in mind I'm in NYC and in the city new grads can start on $85k if they're lucky enough to score a job in the city (not easy without 2 years experience or being bilingual English/Spanish). However I thought it over and realized the debt would be a lot. I then got my prerequisite results and found I scored an A in Chemistry, I'm at one of the cheapest CUNY colleges in NYC - not too much support there, but after a period of self doubt I realized once you get back into the grove of studying and figure out what is required in terms of time put in, and study habits you can do these prerequisites at almost any college in my opinion. Just avoid online colleges for prerequisites. You in can get this done just as fast at a community college - you just need to be in top of registration dates and make sure you register for required classes on the dot. I am online the moment registration opens - everytime so I have best chance of getting my required classes. As a nursing major registration opened for me a day earlier than other students also which was helpful (I have 90 credits as I'm a second degree student - only just starting pre-reqs though). I would persevere with a community college if I were you and try to live with your folks during this period to save money, if you can do that.

The thing that leaps or at me is that you have not taken accountability yourself - you mention medication as an reason NOT you. If I was admissions I'm looking to see that yes you messed up but you have owned it, taken accountability and moved on from it like an adult. Blaming medication or ADHD doesn't work. I see in the facts that you were late not once but three times for clinical and I'm sure the rules regarding that were laid out very clearly - you have a duty of patient care and if you're not present you're failing badly. Now this all sounds very negative I know, I respect that you want to make this right and become a nurse but you need to do the heavy lifting. Suing the school is ridiculous you're flipping the blame on them because you were late 3 times! You have to accept that you did not do what was required of you for whatever reason and own it. At my job the director of ops has a favorite phrase and it's "excuses be gone"change your spiel when you approach people take responsibility for what happened and I think admissions will respond better regardless of what they find. Without seeing your file they can read between the lines. You need to own the facts. As for NYU I live in Manhattan and I think it's one of the easier schools to get into but because of huge debts it would involve I would not apply and I live in rent stabilized housing here in Manhattan. About 15 years ago I rented a room in the east village and it cost $1300 for a box room - that area is so overpriced now. Even in Brooklyn or Queens you're looking at 1800 for something half decent - that's where rents start - maybe !12-1500 if you share and often they don't accept out of state guarantors and will want you to put up a big security deposit through someone like insurent. Having said that I love NYC it's a wonderful city with a lot of great people and things to do but it's not easy here and it's no bs, its do what's required or sink fast.

I'm a second degree student and have the benefit of hind sight. I'm also a mom and work full time while doing nursing pre req's - my opinion is that if I'm exhausted then I should take he summer off because my grades will suffer and I will come back better prepared for the fall. I'm studying for gen Chem final now and will do organic in fall - I would never recommend anyone to take chemistry in a shortened summer course - it's a lot of material. I don't know what subject you're taking in summer or how old you are but as you talk about having lots of friends in school I'm assuming you're still under 25 in which case I say there's no rush and enjoy your summer. I have a few 18 year olds in lab with me and they're super smart but they're taking 18 credits at once to try and rush to get to apply to nursing school and they're scoring B's or borderline A instead of the clear A they would have if they didn't overload and exhaust themselves, some of them aren't passing. Hare and the tortoise comes to mind. When you're that young there's really no need to rush in my opinion taking summer off is fine. I admire he determination though. The most important thing to keep in the back of your mind is how competitive nursing school admissions can be - where I'm applying for its very cheap so they simply go off the best GPA starting with sciences ... There's no credit given for how quickly you conplete the prerequisites, only for As.

I am a mom and one in my kids has high functioning autism, I'm a domestic violence survivor and still have to deal with the guy as he is father of my kids, I have to pay private school fees and I didn't get a tax return today boo hoo. I don't have a baby sitter except for school and daycare which I use sparingly. I am a second degree student struggling, I am doing ok (A- or B but I need A's) in A&P but pretty sure I just bombed a chemistry midterm (I'm feeling 50% or worse) I know should have gone to workshops and tutor but I found I have been so tired I just want to get home or sit in cafe for a moment after classes. I intend to salvage chem somehow .. I'm also in my mid thirties so don't feel I have time to play with by doing a class one at a time. Feeling overwhelmed and very stupid recently. I will continue though! I hope to come back here with a success story :) just waned you to know there is someone out there with life struggles trying to preserve and recognize faults and address them

Hey we're the same age and I'm also a special needs mom, I'm doin pre requisites - my advice is if it's been a long time don't take two sciences in the same semester and if you need to do a math class make sure you do it before taking on chemistry it wil help you a lot. I'm not doing anything online. So far it's not impossible but it's enough work that my house is a mess right now with midterms approaching and it won't be fully tidied until after midterms next week í ½í¸³

Wow what was your line of work before going back to school? I would have expected a father who has work history to be far more humble, a team player and understanding that everyone comes from a different background and has different life issues to deal with. As a father you're lucky you have time to read so much. I'm a mother and one of my children has special needs , I'm also a domestic violence survivor and my marriage is in shreds - sometimes I get very sleepy in my A&P class after being up with kids in the night, I also missed an important Chem lecture recently because the school nurse called to tell me I had to pick up my son with a possible broken nose - I have midterms next week l, my house is a mess and I'm not feelInt great about anyone of it but I will give it my best shot for A's regardless of the chaos I deal with. Anyone of the students you look down on could have multiple issues - sure some are fresh out of school with lots ahead of them but I will say two of the girls I find most respectful and nice in my school are 18 and straight out of school.. There are some kids I find a little annoying but I check myself and remember that I was 18 before and it's good to get to know new people different to myself. Many people in school who are older hold jobs down to make it and some don't have thre privileged high. School experience or childhood I had but I see them working harder than I did at 18 and acting smarter. I don't think I can understand illness like I used to think I could because I know my A&P knowledge just isn't there for a full understanding yet - that said yes I do enjoy reading about health issues in the news and do so avidly out of pure interest

Really struggling with dimesional analysis / all those problems 2 weeks in. I did a liberal arts degree nearly 15 years ago and haven't done maths since high school a almost 20 years ago (I was educated over seas). I also have little kid who has autism... I feel I will not make the grade unless I make a huge turn around I have an exam early March so a month to get this down. I go to see tutors Tues but not sure how available their time will be for me. Any advice ? We are doing flipped lecture mode and clicker sessions during lecture which also have credit attached to them - there's two minutes to solve each problem in a packed lecture hall. Please let me know any advice or good resources ? Anyone ... Feeling desperate because I'm applying to a v competitive cheap program where there are so many applicants you basically need a 4.0 gpa in pre reqs, 80% of the class seem to be doing fine.. So I know I'm way below the mark right now .. Not even at pass mark I doubt never mind an A. I find myself staring at the problem for so long - I must admit the last clicker session I did after being up all night .. Ahhhh any advice appreciated greatly

Hey that looks like the list of prereqs for Hunter or NYU am I right ? I am at Lehman doing pre reqs right now first semester - I'm there because they're cheap and they want the least pre req's. I'm a second degree student (liberal arts degree graduated about 15 years ago!). So far the professors at Lehman are pretty good and the gen Chem and A&P 1 courses I'm doing seem rigorous. I am struggling because I'm a mom to young kids and it's been a very long time since I did math (20 yrs!?) and Chem has a lot. The students who have been to school more recently or high school seem to be struggling less. I would recommend someone working full time not to do full time college even if single because nursing school is so competitive if you're applying to a CUNY school you need 4.0 gpa or close for the pre reqs .. Forget tap it's not worth it. I do 2 science classes and struggle but I have kids I think 2 science classes per semester would be ideal for a working person without kids. If you're applying to CUNY for fall get going now the admin is shrouded in mystery they don't tell you things and you discover the many hoops you need to jump through through trial and error so start admissions as early as possible to allow for mess ups - also all the nursing pre req classes in CUNY schools fill up the moment registration opens so you need to be ready sitting on your computer on CUNY first ready to register for those the very moment registration opens

I follow various medically fragile kids on FAcebook, the parents can really tell you a lot - they give you a run down of heir day and it really helps to understand the kids better and also come up with ideas for fun and play. One girl with Rett I follow communicates using something called a Tobi, she is non verbal and the Tobii registers her eye movements, if she stares at something on the screen longer the Tobii recognizes this and allows her control this way, she can even play little games with it and watch movie etc. if possible you should talk to the girl's OT and get some idea's from her, there's likely a lot of sensory play that can be done in he home - crafting touching different materials (even if you're actually putting stuff together for her she can touch and discover through that), also water play may be fun if you could bring a small station next to her with water so she can feel the water - she doesn't need to be in the bath, a large bowl of water with a couple of toys in might be fun. Painting could be fun. This girls OT may also be able to provide some toys and equipment to facilitate play. Physical therapy should be able to suggest some fun excercises to do - even from sitting position. A lot high needs kids go to school and stay home when they're not well, I agree with the poster that she should be in a education program. Go on FB and follow some kids with Rett - I get so many ideas and so much understanding from there.

The info sessions are supposedly on the nursing websites but they're not, I got info by first showing up to the admin office in the nursing building and I just asked the lady there,nand noted that they had the info sessions on a pin board inside the office. Was annoying to waste a day doing that. I then returned, a good day used to be Tuesday mornings they had the head of nursing doing info sessions. I'm not sure about summer semester though, maybe be worth a try showing up then, from 9 am onwards, you have to go to office and sign your name on a list, then it's first come first served.. I waited a while but she moved through people pretty quickly. However., I was waiting for her to actually just show up to the building to start going through the people on the list. I got the impression it is pretty simple to get on the RN to BSN program. I'm an older student but I'm still doing prerequisites for the generic program. As long as you're not educated overseas it should be pretty simple to be admitted to Lehman college also, they do general admissions right through until Sept for people educated here.

Hey guys I just got admitted to Lehman,wow the admissions process was shrouded in mystery for me.. Even though I'm admitted for Spring 2015 im having to start pre requisites for nursing in summer, I have to visit chemistry and biology advisors to see if any of the classes are offered in summer. I know two of the nursing ones are... I'm a second degree transfer student. I will let you know if any biology or chemistry classes are available in summer as soon as I've spoken to advisors shortly..

I think they're also looking for life experience, job experience, nursings a social field NYU is so expensive I'm looking into mt St vincents, in the Bronx. NYU is going to leave you with a lot if debt unless you have 80k stashed away or someone who can give you that money, I think any working nurse you ask about study will say as long as you pass the nclx somehow the route you take doesn't matter. Im not sure I'll bother with CUNY or Lehman due to competition and since they seem to focus on GPA I'm not sure my foreign degree will translate well. I think I'm going to tell NYU I don't want to pursue the application and pay another 200$ getting overseas transcripts sent and evaluated when I can't afford their tuition anyway!!

I just got an email from a named person in admissions saying my application is currently being examined and that they want a WES evaulated transcript for my transcript from a European college, too bad after numerous calls I was given absolutely no warning of this, and I had spoken to someone is admissions before not a counselor - now I have to 'rush it ASAP'. So that means contacting a school in Europe, encouraging them to 'overnight' anew transcript via fedex which they refused to do last time and took a month for it to arrive in the mail, then overnight the transcript to WES and ask them to rush an evaluation and send directly to NYU (if they do that?), as I'm so highly doubtful of being able to afford fees I'm not sure I'll bother. So I guess they're looking at us transfers right now.

how are you guys going to fund NYU, purely through loans, is anyone considering working?

EMTLeen1987 I'm sorry I was certainly impressed by the credentials and being an EMT is no joke, shows real commitment. There are big drawbacks to NYU anyway, namely the debt especially when you compare it to Hunter or Lehman, Hunter is great fees are soooooo cheap, and school has such a good rep, I know they go on GPA and scores on an entrance exam, you have be at the college for at least one semester to apply to the generic or accelerated nursing program, have you thought about transferring there to finish up prerequisites then apply to Hunter Nursing. I looked into because NYU is probably going to be too expensive for me. I applied traditional/transfer too and have no pre reqs as my degree was music, got my work cut out! Not heard a peep from NYU and after careful consideration pretty sure I can't afford it. Good luck everyone I will keep you posted if I hear anything, I don't even have a GPA because I was educated abroad and with my degree being music I'll be very interested to see how many credits they think I have. No wonder the lower income people in the US have a trouble getting a leg up in life, it's nigh on impossible getting to college to do nursing here, I have even more respect for nurses now I know what they went through just to study!!

TAB? You mean TAP or they changed the name? In my experience TAP always takes longest to come through, I handled the finacial aid apps for my husbands physio therapy app in 2009 and 2010 and everytime TAP didn't come through until a month or two after fall semester began. He got letters saying he had to prove he had signed up for selective service or prove a reason why he didn't. I did my fafsa months ago - heard nothing of TAP, but I'm yet file taxes going to today as had to file extension while I waited for my son's SSN to come through. You should absolutely apply for TAP - it could be up to $2500 per semester, my husband got a decent amount, if you're a greencard holder like me you'll probably get very little (well I mean $500 to cover books at least) or nothing.

My son My mother My late father because he's always in my heart. My dogs the late Paddy and Bailey who's still with us, no dog can compare, they are my in my closest family circle. Scotland many happy family times and holidays here growing up in the UK, it is beautiful, and very peaceful. I'd like to be able to say nursing profession but I haven't delved into the studies yet, my son and mother are my top priorities, and I'm not sure I can put added pressure on them by accruing student debt and not working full time for maximum dollar NOW. I'd like to say my husband is in that list, but after recent problems I'm not so sure, I will always be thankful we met and he gave me my son.

I had a hot ex boyfriend tell me that about my hands, oh I could just start an IV right now I think was the line lol He was a general surgeon at St Vincents ER, now I'm a prenursing student with a loathing of veins but a strong desire to nurse! I wonder if any past nurses had this problem when they embarked upon studies?

Please could someone give me a little advise as admissions aren't replying - my question is where did you all complete lower division requirements and did you complete them to the letter (women studies etc?) OR did you just complete all the upper division requirements listed?? I have a degree in music already from the UK so have no science prerequisites. I wanted to enroll at Hunter to do them all, but no sure how to go about this - would I be applying for the 'lower divsion' - is there some sort of course name specifically for pre-nursing. I'm not familiar with US higher education system despite living in Manhattan for 8 years. Finally I remember someone saying Hunter dpoesn't offer all the science pre-reqs need for accelerated route - is it microbiology that they don't offer? I'd really appreciate some help Thanks!

Help can someone explain the stages of applying to Hunter, I have a BA in music but no science pre reqs at all, am I right in thinking that I should apply to hunter to do all pre reqs then apply to accelerated program during study for prereqs...how exactly did you go about enrolling to study pre reqs at Hunter those of you that did. Can you just sign up for classes or do you have to apply on the regular 4 years BSN? Totally clueless...also how much is tuition? I was all set to go to NYU/Columbia but having to cancel as fees are just going to get me in serious debt and I'm a mother

well I don't know if I'm in at NYU or not but I have decided to return to my old job managing restaurants/ lounge here because my pay was similar to nurses salary and could increase if I move fast up the ladder while still young. I just cant justify the debt of returning to school at this stage in my life now I'm a mother. I'm disappointed and wanted the security of having a true profession that wasn't measured so much on youth and image but I'm going to have to take my chances out there, I watched my mommy struggle with credit card debt growing up and I just can't go there, even a cheaper school I'd still be paying at least $20,000+ and I'm not eligible for any grants or subsidized loans Good luck everyone, if I was still single and without kids I'd be right there with you...
