You're right success stories are inspirational...but for me, they sometimes paint a picture that dismisses the struggles that had to be taken to get there. I wanted to hear the struggles because I can already see the success :) I see how the nurses here have become victorious in their studies, but I can't see the struggles they went through. I know it was there, but I want to know it's not just a general feeling. Stories of success are more beautiful to me when I can see the pitfalls too. But to each his own. Thanks for the advice.

Share your story as a struggling nursing student...just so I know I'm not alone in feeling like this. What's your story like? Have you ever felt so inadequate to finish, or even start, nursing school? How'd you get through it?

Hello, I'm a senior in high school and I plan on joining the AFROTC. I'm not only doing it for the financial benefits, but I really want to do it because I know it will really help me grow both physically and mentally. I believe that it is a huge honor to be able to serve my country. The problem is that I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get in. I plan on majoring in nursing (obviously), because that's my passion, but my grades are not exactly "appealing." Before junior year, I had a cumulative GPA of about 3.8 and a WGA of approximately 4.05. I was taking honors and Pre-IB classes. After junior year however, my grades plummeted to a disappointing 2.76. It was mostly due to emotional instability (father losing job, family problems, depression, etc.) I no longer take IB classes and I still have a WGPA of 3.26, but I don't know if that's going to help much. I'm really pushing myself to do my best and working my hardest to raise my grades before I graduate from high school, but considering that I want to take advantage of the AFROTC scholarship opportunities, I have to submit my application in before December 1st of this year. I know it's really competitive, but do you think I have a chance? Also, I don't know if this helps, but...I only took the SATs once and got a composite score of 1590. With only the Math and Critical Reading sections, I have a score of 1060. Would that be enough? I know you have to have at least a score of 900, but I also want to take into account that I'll be competing with hundreds of others who probably have a higher score than I do. And another thing: I haven't sent in my college applications yet. I'm only applying to three (again, financial issues hold me back from applying to more) and two out of those three have the AFROTC Program. I know I have a big chance of being accepted into one of those two colleges. What do you think? Should I go for it? Please help, I'd really appreciate everyone's input on this. hello, i'm currently a senior in high school and i'm planning to major in nursing. my dream is to be a missionary nurse, but considering my family's financial status, i won't be able to afford the education needed to become a nurse. i was thinking of joining the air force rotc, but not just for the possible free education, but because i know that it's going to benefit me so much in leadership and social skills. not to mention all the physical and emotional growth, as well as the honor to serve our country. the problem is that i'll be the first individual in my family that will be going to college in the united states. i'm not 100% clear with how the system works--even after reading the afrotc website. so, i was wondering... is it possible to pursue both paths? if i'm pursuing to become a missionary nurse, how will being in the afrotc affect it? if both paths are not possible, what would be the better path to take? after graduating, what type of work will i be doing as part of the rotc rather than doing missionary work? please note that i'll try my best to receive scholarships, but i'm really hoping not to fall into dept after college. considering my high school grades, i know i probably don't have a large chance at receiving scholarships. i know grades are important, but my passion to pursue this career is far greater than what my grades show (i've had trouble in the past). much help is needed. please be as detailed as possible. i really do appreciate every answer. thank you so much!
