  1. Be honest! tell them you really like working with children and any experience that you have working with children. Also that you would enjoy helping children learn about healthy choices and any ideas you may have for doing so

Check your lost and found pile! Lots of times clothes never get claimed and our school will take them to Goodwill after a while. If my stash of clothes is running low I send out an all staff e-mail asking for the staff to check their homes for any items they don't need anymore. Most of what I have is donation and I have even brought some of my kids old things. Some people are really good about returning stuff. I've used a marker to wright the schools name on the waist line of pants. Since they are donated I'm not to concerned if they don't come back. Maybe the student really needs the clothes! For our Kindergarten Round Up (when kids and parents get to meet the teachers etx.) I suggest to parents to have a change of clothes in the kids lockers for accidents, spills, falling in mud ETC.. I do purchase new underwear annually and just take it out of the budget. If we know a kid desperatly needs some clothes we have a group of parents who are willing to get what they need!!

The Salvation Army gets vouchers for free eye exam & glasses at Shopko here :-)
  5. 2 personal each year and we accumulate sick leave hrs each day we work (not sure the ratio). I wish the # of sick leave hours would roll over to extra personal days the following year so if I wanted a vacation I could take one :-) I'm contracted for 5.5 hrs daily and if I'm sick I can only take 5.5 hrs for that day and nothing more even though I may have 100+ hours banked under sick leave.
  6. I have a rice sock that I heat up!! works great and kids can take it to class and return it when done :-) Just regular rice in a sock!
  7. At the beginning of the year the Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers take the kids on a tour of the building and come into the office and let the kids see who I am and that if ever they feel sick or get hurt that I am here to help them . The pre-k kids usually come with an adult to see me so someone familiar is with them. With the l pre-k kids I get down on my knees so I'm at their level and say hi and let them know what I'm going to do " I'm going to check your temp with this."
  8. kid walks into my office saying "the (basketball)pole ran into him" REALLY!!!

I take all expired meds and left over meds down to our local pharmacy and they dispose of them for me:nurse:. But I like the Haiti idea, I'm sure there are organizations out there that would take expired meds and use them for those less fortanate .
  10. Hot packs are great for cramps :-) You can make them by killing a sock with rice and tying a knot on the end and heat it up in the microwave till warm and have the girl take that to class and return it when done. we don't have standing order either but if I get verbal permission to give tylenol or advil then I can give it and then need parent signuture on our school form and stress that if they want to have meds at the school to bring a bottle.
  11. the first time teaching the class is always the scaryest :-) Marsh Media has great videos. we seperate the girls and boys and they each have there own video to watch and then time is given for questions at the end. I also order the stuff from pg and the kids get that at the end of our talk. The girls always talk longer than the boys :-)
