  1. You need to check with tour state governement institiution about fair wages, they have to pay you for a minimum of 40 hrs.
  2. I say follow your dreams, as for your husband he might need to realize that government jobs are not what they once were. The federal and state governments are in a fiscal crunch and although unlikely now, the cuts will roll down to nursing staff as well. I say go for it .
  3. It will get better and if you get a lunch break that is a good thing. Most of the time nurses don't even get a pee break.
  4. things are looking up in Ohio where I live lots of new grad interns getting hired here so I think it will be getting better everywhere, only so long before existing staff gets burned out with OT
  5. The economy has taken a blow on everyone even nurses, hospitals are tightnening their belts , this site is absolutely a place to get your gripe on with nursing being the way it is. The real world of nursing is completely differnet then any other job, title, position. We are the largest group of professionals in this country we need a voice if this website helps find our voice negative or positive that is a plus in my view.

  7. :mad:I thought managers had 24 hour responsibility they get payed salary don't they, get out of there fasy.
  8. the factors that will help you with this is to learn priorties and time management. As a nurse you cannot be everywhere all the time. Sometimes people have to wait and that is just the way it is doesn't mean they like but that is the way it is. If you want to talk to your manager hopefully they will understand. This is the way I see it you do what you can and no matter what everyone is not going to be happy anyway so don't beet yourself up about it.
  9. It is great your thinking of nursing, but age discrimination does exist in all fields nowadays. Also there doesn't appear to be a shortage but a glut. Also the BSN is heavily being recruited for enrty level into nursing where I live. The applications all ask are you a BSN or they want you to have a BSN within 5 years. This isn't just in the hospitals it is becoming entry level now because there is a glut of nurses.
  10. I worked as a prison nurse for 5 years and although you will see alot of new grads, they are risking their lisence for sure. You need to know your stuff because it is a very autonomous job and most not all, are nurses that can't get work anywhere else because they tend to be lookin for LOVE in all the wrong places. Be prepared for the staff as well they can be very rude. Basically you are responsible for anything that happens to 1000 inmates plus 40-100 staff medically so be prepared.
  11. CONGRATULATIONS
  12. The healthcare field for nurses is down now, however in 5 years it may be where it was in 2005 when huge sign bonuses were common.
  13. Good luck to you and I hope you have a gggggggggggreat day
  14. :yeah:Good luck to you and I hope you have a gggggggggggreat day
  15. :uhoh3:She probably has a job high up in administration because daddy bought it for her. This is really sad this happens but it does.
  16. I think Miami Valley in Dayton is taking new grad preceptors
  17. :smokin:Nursing is a very exhausting both physically and mentally I have been a nurse for 14 years it is truly a calling not a last resort career. Nursing is a job where you have to be there on time all the time, you work holidays and weekends and weird shifts. And yes nursing is a good career however it should not be all about your whole identity. You have to find a balance in your personal and professional life if you don't burn out will happen on one or both sides.
  18. :pI think after 5 years that you have to go take a refresher course.
  19. Union hospitals sometimes can be very political nasty places to work. Often times I have found that the unions cover nurses who really need to be fired.
  20. It happens and you know what sometimes a nurse does not find their "niche" for many years after doing many things. As far as being burned out thay happens to us all I don't care what anyone says. But don't stay in a job you hate it will just flow into your personal life and it is not worth that
