  1. Sounds to me like she's bought herself a one way ticket to the eternal care unit. I see your point, I also know there are a lot of people that work the system and that plucks my nerves.
  2. You do bring up a valid point.
  3. Oh wow. Poor you and poor guy!
  4. To quote Alias on clerks 2 " ooooo sick burn!!" you ninja, you!
  5. You'll save yourself a lot of unneeded problems by not divulging your personal life to patients or other coworkers. If the patient ( or coworker) pets just say," I'd rather not talk about my personal life" and be done with it. Until everyone can get along, homophobia runs rampant and it's really not worth losing your job or getting physically hurt over.
  6. I've been rude before, but I had just had a kid my nephew's age come in covered from head to toe with burns like he pulled a pot of boiling liquid on himself. Mom was screaming, kid was screaming and naturally I tended to the mom and kid first. Then I had a chronic pain patient come up to me (I work at the registration desk, they want nurses to staff it now) and say that she didn't see why she had to wait over a burned kid and then accused the family of abuse, and drug manufacturing, ect...... I snapped. I told her that I didn't know how the kid was burned and even if I did that I wouldn't tell her because she wasn't worth the jail time. I told her to sit down and wait her turn. I know that was rude but I was just so shocked that she could say such things about another human I couldn't help myself. I hope you get a good preceptor when you start working as a nurse and your eyes will be opened to real world nursing. Don't forget that nurses are human too. Lots of ER nurses also get PTSD.......another reason why they may be "rude".
  7. I've had this happen to me before. I just walked into the DON's office and volunteered to take a drug test after explaining that I heard a rumor that I was stealing and using drugs. I was cleared immediately :) of course I was courteous and respectful, and the DON was nice. Shocked, but nice :)
  8. It's not my fault that you were too stupid to call an ambulance or bring adequate oxygen for your mom that is severely short of breath. Don't get ****** because I bring an oxygen tank on wheels and a wheelchair in order to make sure she has the oxygen you were too stupid to make sure she had. Your ingrown toenail is NOT an emergency. You're just going to have to wait because the Er staff is busy coding a 2 year old. You're breathing, he's not. Sit down and shut up.
  9. " how long is the wait?". Do we look like a freakin' Olive Garden? People who come in seeking pain meds irritate me. Little kids and babies that are really really sick and all the mother is worried about is herself. Teenage mothers who are there with their kid and scared witless and their own mother or father are nowhere to be found. I am irritated with the teen's parents for basically hanging out to dry. I'm always extra gentle with those moms because they're basically still kids themselves. People who abuse the systemPeople who threaten to call the CEO of the hospital because their kid that threw up once an hour ago has to wait because there is a STEMI that came in CPR in progress
  10. That is a good question.
