  1. thank you everyone who has posted...i genuinely appreciate the tips and find many of them quite helpful !
  2. You seem to think that I am this guy who goes to work and shoves my sexual orientation down everyones throat...and that I'm someone that is constantly talking about myself when I should be taking care of patients...you couldn't possibly be more wrong...I'm not asking about whether or not other people want to hear about my sex life/orientation...I'm not asking if it's a private matter...I'm asking how I should deal with it when people ask me innocuous questions such as "do you have a date on valentines day" If I say yes, they might ask what is the persons name if I say Jim...then BAM! I just outed myself! I understand that I should probably always avoid letting patients know that I'm gay. But, I'm basically looking for tips on how to re-route the conversation if I feel like it's headed in a direction where sexual orientation might be brought up...it's actually a very important question...and a professional question...and I would appreciate answers...what I would not appreciate is people telling me to "stop talking about myself, especially to children"...quite frankly I think that is bad advice...for example telling a child who is obviously a fan of teenage mutant ninja turtles that I myself was a fan of teenage mutant ninja turtles might make the child more comfortable with me...and more agreeable...which would in turn facilate my ability to provide care for the child...so in other words in some situations it is probably a good idea to talk about myself in the workplace...
  3. I've heard that people can work as LPN's before being registered as LPNs! Is this true? Is there some kind of temporary LPN license that a person can use until they get the real deal? does anybody know?
  4. So, if I say yes...and the kid says whats her name...and my dates name is Fred...then what would I say?
  5. Should a gay male LPN reveal his sexual orientation to clients when asked? Some might say go ahead...your facility can't fire you for it...it's against the law? But actually, I live in Nebraska and it is legal to fire someone based on sexual orientation. And even if it was illegal it would be easy for an employer to fire an employee based on sexual orientation and then try to pass it off as if it were for some other reason. For example, what if a young patient...10 y.o. asked me if I have a date on valentines day...and I do...with a guy...should I tell the kid...even if ma and pa are sitting 7 feet away listening...and what about when I work with mentally unstable patients...they say you are supposed to be honest with them always...because they don't deal with dishonesty well...but it seems like if I did tell them the truth it might set them off...or be counterproductive some how...anyway someone plz share with me some insight...maybe with some anecdotes and some tips
  6. I took the nclex-pn last month on april 9th, found out I passed a couple days later, but also that I had to wait and find out if I could be licensed after a review of some of my background information...so I called the nebraska state board of nursing today on may 15th...and they said that they still have to review my application and that they are not going to do that until June 14th! Which means that they probably won't get back to me with an answer until even later! Does this not seem crazy to anybody... To have to wait over two months after taking NCLEX to find out if I can become licensed?!? I think when I called the 1.800 number to find out if I passed the NCLEX the automated voice told me I passed but that does not mean I will be automatically licensed...because the board will have to review my app and that will take 4-6 wks...maybe that is why I'm shocked to find out it will take more like 9 weeks. Oh and by the way! What exactly do they have to review...do they have to check my background to make sure I have a clean enough record to be a nurse?!? If I don't have a clean enough record then why not tell me before I took the test ( A TEST THAT I STUDIED FOR 100+ HRS!) Anyway...did anybody else have this issue...having to wait over two months after taking NCLEX to find out if they are an LPN? And, does anybody else think that this is messed up?!? Could you imagine if your kid took a final and they passed it...but then they had to wait over two months afterwards to find out if it even mattered?!?
  7. I already have gotten into LPN school with an aggravated DUI on my record and graduated...I was wondering if anyone hires nurses with aggravated DUI on their record...do you know of anyone
  8. does anyone know if it is difficult or even possible to get an LPN job with an aggravated DUI on my record...does anyone know anyone that has gotten a aggravated DUI and then gotten an LPN job
  9. I interviewed for a job at an elder care services center...they gave me a call back and i got a second interview with one of their units...the rehabilitation unit...does anyone know what questions I should expect to be asked for this kind of interview, and also what would be good ways to answer the questions? i need information on interview question/answers for an interview for an LPN job in a rehabilitation center! someone plz help...my interview is on Thurs May 3rd...thank you!
