  1. Interesting trend I have found out about this hospital. I have one semester left in my BSN program at a local university. The last graduating class, and the one before that, had not one job offer, with most of our class not even being allowed to interview, even though many of my class precepted and received excellent reviews from the hospital staff. All of our class graduated with their BSN. The hospital is hiring new nurses, but ADN prepared nurses are the only nurses being offered positions in the new grad program. My school is one of the top nursing schools in the state. Does anybody think this is a political issue? or do you think those working in HR have an agenda?
  2. Has anybody received a list of things to do from CSU yet? I am referring to the detailed list of immunizations we need, where to go to get the background check and drug test done, what we need to buy for equipment etc. I called them in mid June and was told the list would go out end of the month but I still haven't received anything in the mail. I am a bit stressed about the immunization part because all of my records were lost in a fire so I am starting over, had some Titers done and am awaiting the results from them before I continue. My doctor is saying he needs the list to determine what's needed of course. I have looked on the CSU website for a list and cannot seem to find anything...can anyone help me out with this?
  3. I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with chem, it is a lot of material, some say it is similar to anatomy but personally I didn't think it was that intense. Have you taken anatomy yet? that class forced me to seriously re-evaluate my study habits and try different approaches, I wanted an A so I had to try different ways to study. What worked for me was to take photographs in lab, make flashcards and quiz myself everyday. The lecture material I really didn't have to study for, as somehow I would absorb it by just reading the material. My chem 2b class included a lot of online homework which was a great study tool for me. Next semester try going over your online homework again before exams, mabye that will help.
  4. Hi! I am attending Merced College, at least for one more week anyway untill finals are over. I didn't know that Stan State required Chem4b for its nursing program, unless the requirements have changed, I had to take 2a and 2b. I thought that the classes were interesting and I found so many of the chem 2a labs to be similar to the Physio labs, it made taking Physio a bit easier. I remember Chem 2a being heavy on the mathematics compared to 2b. The dimensional analysis they teach in that class will be very helpfull.
  5. Just wanted to shout out to anyone starting at CSU Stan this fall 2011. Would be nice to meet those attending with me next semester. If so where are you driving from, and anyone wanna car-pool?
  6. The science portions are rather basic, when I took mine none of the questions deviated any further than what the prerequisite classes covered. If you just finished your pre-reqs as you said, a quick review should be all you need.
  7. I don't know if this will help anyone, but what I have commonly observed students doing is taking too many classes at once and becoming overwhelmed. I understood from the begining that grades where going to be the most looked upon factor in determining wether or not I was accepted into a competitive program, such as a university. Knowing this, I took a bit more time to complete my freshman and sophomore years in college, why rush things knowing that if you take a few less units a semester higher grades can be almost guaranteed? Too often students are impatient, take a load of classes and end up hurting their chances of entering a desired program due to substandard grades. I followed my own advice during my attendance in junior college, leaving the last semester as the only semester I held a full schedule (13 units) so I could be certain of my study skills before entering a BSN program. Not all of us are super students that can ace every class with 18 units on the schedule, in fact few people are capable of this due to time, outside commitments etc, but many of us can accomplish the needed grades if there is a bit less on the plate. I followed this mantra and succeeded in getting accepted into the very school I wanted to attend on the first attempt. Mabye this is something that future nursing school hopefulls should consider.
  8. Being a male didn't seem to effect me at all, of all my clasmates those with the higher grades and TEAS scores seemed to prevail.
  9. Thank very much, that was very helpfull to me and I much appreciate your candor on the subject.
  10. You can get the TEAS version 5 study guide directly from atitesting.com. It only costs about 43 bucks or so. I took the version 5 TEAS and the exam questions are in the same format as the study guide.
  11. Hi everyone! I just found this forum and I think it's great! nice place to network and seek any help we may need. Al bit about myself is in order I guess. About 2 years ago I decided I needed a change in careers, and after talking to a few nurses, one in particular who is a male cousin of mine who has been a trauma nurse for years, I decided to take the plunge! I have attended college, not too seriously mind you, in the distant past, just a class here and there, but I must say that attending school full time has been great and really fun. The prereqs for the nursing program were really interesting and the science behind it all is fascinating and enlightening; there are so many things that I didn't know about the Human body that these classes made clear. Well anyway I don't want to talk too much and bore everyone, but I do have a question or 2 if you don't mind me asking. When it comes to acceptance into CSU Stan's nursing program, does anyone know when or in the case of not being admitted, if, the notifications for the fall 2011 semester go out? I know that at the community colleges if you make the acceptance pool then your name is drawn by lottery ( I don't understand the reasoning behind this because qualifying with only a B average gives no incentive to excell) which prompted my decision to apply for the program at CSU. Another question I have is whether or not I will be competitive, I have an overall gpa of 3.97, a science gpa of 4.0 and a non science gpa of 3.85 or so. My only concern is my TEAS 5 score, I took it last minute and only scored an 85.6. It was my first attempt and I was dissapointed, so my question is, should I just write-off my chances for acceptance this fall semester, re-take the TEAS and re-apply for the spring semester or is there hope? I live in the service area but don't speak any language other than English, and have never worked in healthcare before. Any honest answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Wow I didn't know that the new TEAS was harder. I just took the version5 TEAS and was disapointed with my 85.6 score. Mabye I shouldn't be so hard on myself?
