  1. Keepmovinglpn, Best of luck to you today on your teas test. Please let us know your results and what you thought of the test:):)
  2. Keepmovinglpn, Wishing you the best of luck with your teas test today. Please keep us informed of your results and what you thought of the test:)
  3. mstrain, I have no idea if it was exam A or B. I don't think the ati site tells you that. Really, there are probably more than 2 versions out there. As far as my test result, I have been out of high school for 28 years. I had chemistry in high school and in college (back in the early 80's). I had forgotten ALL of it! The exam I had was about an equal mix of chemistry, anatomy, reasoning, genetics, even one weather question. There was one chem mole question. By far, the science was the most difficult followed by the reading (at least for me). Good luck!
  4. I went to a 1 year medical assistant program back in the early 90's. I earned a medical assisting diploma. I worked in the ma field for over 13 years, mainly in doctors offices, but I also worked in the occ. health dept of a hospital. I also felt like I did not learn anything in ma school. Basically, it was all common sense to me! At my highest salary, I earned $12.50 per hour, with no chance of ever increasing responsibilities. I got burned out on being a ma over 13 years. The cost for the program I graduated from was $1200 and that included books, so I more than made my money back for school. If you ever want to make a decent living, I would say avoid being a medical assistant. I am now attempting to go back to school for something else (probably nursing).
  5. Dear mstrain and keepmovinglpn, I took the teas 5 today, 6/22/11, and scored a 84.7 which placed me in the 96th percentile (as per test summary). I was happy to have scored that well! I have only been using the ati teas 5 manual to study for the past month. Honestly, the math and english are pretty easy and stick to the manual. The reading was somewhat difficult - long passages, answer choices where at least 2 of the answers could have been correct. The reading was definately tricky. However, the worst was the science. The science included many questions that were not in the manual. I guessed at at least 15-20 questions. There were several chemistry (including mole questions), questions about vitamins, potential energy, and so many others that I can't remember. My mind was a blur when I walked out of there. I almost ran out of time on the reading. I had the most time left remaining on the english and the science (probably on the science due to guessing at so many)! I really don't think that you can study for the science. The questions are so random, it is either you know it or you don't. I hope this helps and good luck to both of you!
  6. I am taking teas 5 tomorrow June 22, 2011. I have been studying the manual and taking the practice tests in the manual (have not bought the online tests). I am very nervous, as I have been out of school for 20+ years. From what I have been reading on this site, the science section sounds difficult. Any last minute advice from someone who has taken teas 5 recently would be greatly appreciated!! (Is it more or less one organ system with detailed questions?)
  7. Thanks Kate- Say, if you don't mind sharing (if you remember), what sorts of chemistry was on the test? Are we talking about knowing the abbreviations on the periodic table and knowing the charges of protons, neutron, and electrons? Or are we talking moles and Avogadro's number? How in-depth are the questions? Is the info presented in the study manual pretty much what is on the actual test? Or is the actual test more difficult? I have had Chemistry classes in the past, but it has been about 25 years ago (I am an older student). I am really stressing about this test!
  8. Hi Kate - Thanks for responding. Yes, I do have the ATI Study Guide for version 5. However, I have been reading through posts on this site that say the study manual was not helpful for the science portion of the test. I have read that there are different topics/questions asked on the test that are not included in the study manual. Have you taken the Teas 5 yet? If so, what was your experience? Chemistry is not even a required class for nursing at the technical college that I hope to apply to. I have not had chemistry in many years and do not even know where to start:( Thanks in advance. ~ Lisa
  9. Hello Group, I am new to this site and have been looking over the posts on the Teas Version 5. I have been out of school for MANY years and have decided to return. I have finished all the prerequistes for the 2 year RN program. I am starting to study for the Teas test and plan to take it in a few weeks. I have read on this site that the Science portion seems to be the most difficult. I am concerned about the Chemistry. I was wondering if anyone who has taken the Teas Version 5 recently, could give me some advice about what to expect as far as the science goes, and specifically what sort of Chemistry questions were asked. As a mom to a toddler, I really need to budget my study time. Thanks in advance. ~ Lisa
