Nurses with criminal background
I also live in california, so long as it is not a fingerprint background check I would suggest not disclosing it.but if you want to simply tell them th that it was a mistake in your past, and since then you haven't done anything to disrupt the law. But be honest. Best of luck to you. Let me know how it goes.

Do facilities care about convictions or arrests as well?
I have great news! They offered me the job. I don't think that anything came up on my background either otherwise I'm sure that they would have asked me. If you live in California then you really don't have to disclose it it. I am currently doing orientation and i love it at my job. I know that I stressed a lot since I felt like no one gave me the right answer to my question. I however hope that this can make you sleep better at night. Just breathe, if its meant to be then it will happen. Best of luck to you.

Day 2 of Orientation - stressed
Oh wow. Sorry to hear about that :/ . I really have no advice for you except to stick in there! I myself will be starting my very first job as LPN at a LTC next week. Boy, it seems hard. We're only gonna have 2 days of orientation and I'm a little worried. Also, I think I may be the only new grad nurse there because DSD told me that the other new employees have part time jobs.

Nurses with criminal background
To answer my own question and other peoples questions who are down in the dumps and can't find sleep because of their own background situation, YES IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET LICENSED AND GET A JOB. I was convicted of misdemeanor for battery. I was falsely accused of hitting another person and because I had no witness, I was set for book and release, took advice from the public defendor who could care less about my situation - promised me it would be GONE from my record after my probation was over if I pleaded no contest - 4 years later, I would have to live with it knowing that it will always be on my record forever. Trying to explain my situation to the board, finally being able to take the NCLEX, then waiting months to finally get my license was so hard, as if nursing school wasn't a feat enough itself. Yes it is hard, yes it will be difficult, but don't give up. If you can, try to get it expunged, because that will help with the job search. I was offered a job at a subacute care facility and held my breath for 2 weeks while they checked my background. I didn't disclose it on the application because in the state of California, you don't have to, but I was still afraid that they would see it. Finally yesterday, I got a call from DSD and they finalized the job offer. I start next week. Final advice, pray, pray, PRAY! Although it will take longer than your fellow classmates who are able to get licensed and perhaps find a job faster than you do not give in, don't lose hope. God will never abandon us. And also remember, IF HE PUT YOU TO IT, HE'LL PULL YOU THROUGH IT.

So does getting an expungement even increase your chances at all?

TB chest xray, how often to get the chest xray?
I was offered a position as LVN through Maxim Healthcare. It was all set to go but they needed a recent Negative TB test. Well, I too have had a BCG vaccine done in the Philippines and have a scar on my shoulder, so meaning that my TB test has been and will always read positive. I explained to Maxim that I had my CXR 2 years ago and it's normal, no symptoms of TB, and my doctor did not tell me to take INH or any treatment for it. Maxim denied me the position because they wanted either a TB result or Chest X Ray done within the last year. ? My Aunt who is a Nurse told me that it is not recommended that I get a Chest X Ray every year, but instead every 5 years. Do I get another Chest X ray just in case? This sucks. I was really looking forward to working, finally.

Has ANYONE been hired with priors?
Did any of you expunge your record before applying for jobs? I expunged my record and I put no on the conviction part of the application.

Did Any of you ever got the position? I also had my conviction expunged and was offered a job but they are waiting for the background check which will take a week before they do a Formal Job Offer. I didn't disclose it on my application because my attorney said that by law Im not required to unless it's applying for a license, public office, or winning the lottery. I wonder if they will see it? Im afraid that if they do they will think that I am dishonest and a liar.

HELP, Please, for the sake of my sanity!
No I don't believe so. It's in California's law that when your record is expunged that you are legally allowed to say that you have never been convicted. But if I were to be fingerprinted, they will still be able to see it but it will have expunged included as well.

HELP, Please, for the sake of my sanity!
I need serious advice/help. I recently took my exam and passed 1st time. I am now looking for a job as an LVN at a convalescent home (or anywhere for that matter). Problem is, I was convicted of a misdemeanor back in '07 and I had already disclosed it to the BON. I had to write an explanation and provide a police report. I wont mention what happened here but pretty much I was wrongfully accused - never bothered on hiring a lawyer to fight the case because I was only 19 at the time and did not have money to hire - and had a misdemeanor but recently got it expunged with no problem. The BON must have considered what happened because they allowed me to take the exam and now I have my License as an LVN. The only issue is because I am looking for a job, on the application it states have I ever been convicted of a crime, I put "No". I am pretty certain that they will see it once they fingerprint me IF I am considered for the job. Please don't tell me to ask the BON on what to do because I already did and they told me that "It's not their issue to handle and to ask the place where I am planning on working." So I asked my attorney who helped get my record expunged. She responded with "In California, once Expunged, I am legally allowed to state that I was never convicted of the crime." I am so confused. I don't know what to disclose on future applications, and I really need a job. I am afraid that I will never find work because of something that I was involved in and wrongfully accused of in the past. Please, any advice will help me sleep better at night. I am so stress about this situation.

Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2
I just got home from taking the NCLEX-PN. Did the PVT and it said that I passed!!!! I wont know for sure until I get my results in 3-6 weeks but I'm fairly confident. It shut down at 93 questions. I didn't feel as if it was that difficult. I'll continue to pray until I have that License in my hands and will continue to do so to thank God for everything he's done! Good luck to us all!
