Congrats Hook'em, I still have not bought my parking pass either. Don't worry, I think we will get cruddy parking at this point anyway. I am moving from Houston and just leased a home yesterday in San Antonio and plan to take the bus to school but attach my bike to the front and ride half the way to school. I think your main priorities at this point should be: 1) Immunizations 2) Health Insurance 3) HIPAA training online module 4) CPR certification. Good luck!

Yuki: I am in TOTAL and COMPLETE agreement with you about the laptops!!! I would not know where to start with the petition or other effective strategies on how to change this requirement. I do not live in San Antonio yet, but I will help!

Thanks Friendlysmile for the externship info. Regarding Grad052011: Wow, that's interesting information, thanks for sharing the other side of the coin. When you say the teachers are nice but then you are accused of lying or cheating, what does that mean? Who is doing the accusing? Do you feel like the exams and labs have prepared you well for the NCLEX and the working world? Do you have a job lined up? Do you feel like the assignments and workload are relevant to what you need to know? Thanks.

I don't have any updates about the computers, sorry. On the other hand, and I know this is about a year away, but do any of you have information regarding summer paid externships? Do hospitals in San Antonio offer paid jobs to students after their first year of nursing school? I am already trying to organize summer 2012 and getting some sort of externship in S.A. is my #1 priority, I just don't know how any of it works!

I got accepted :) I think being waitlisted does not necessarily mean that you are rejected. A lot of people give up their spots throughout the summer, etc. and then the alternates are made offers. Texas State @ Round Rock still has open application and UTMB Galveston has open applications to matriculate January 2012. Keep up the hope!

I don't know about you all but I have analyzed pretty much every and any email I have received from the school and then have tried to calculate the time of the day they will send us our emails tomorrow. I estimate it will be in the afternoon at some point. I only estimate this because I received one email at 11 am, one email at 3 pm and one email at 6:24 pm (?!), therefore, I deduce that UTHSCSA is not a morning person/entity. haha.

Eeeeeek! I am right there with you folks! I preemptively planned a "Happy or Sad" hour tomorrow evening with my friends for tomorrow's D-DAY! I figure if I am accepted then it will be a celebration and if I am rejected then at least I will be surrounded by supportive loved ones.

Hi online friends and HOPEFULLY future classmates :) I have 1 more prerequisite to take: Statistics. I am registering for this summer 1 session at Houston Community College but do you know if UTHSC-SA accepts ONLY Math Stats or Psych stats? The Psychology Stats works better with my schedule but will it be accepted? Thanks!

Hahhahaha. Hollar! I have the exact same conversations too! My family is always like, "How is nursing school going?" and I have to reply for the billionth time, "No, I am not quite in nursing school...I am almost finished with prerequisites and hopefully I can start this fall." It is okay though because a couple years ago after I received my bachelor's in Communications I took some MEDICAL school prerequisites (O-chem, physics, etc.) and I would constantly get asked, "How is medical school going?" And I would roll my eyes and think, "If I were really in medical school you would not be seeing me out and about like this!" I guess PATIENCE is a virtue we will have to master to be exemplary nurses though, riiiight?

I live in Houston. San Antonio is pretty much my top choice because I have heard really great things about the program and I am also ready to check out a new city. I have already lived in Austin and I am a sucker for an underdog and San Antonio seems like an underdog kind of city when looking at the major metropolitan areas of Texas :)

That's been something on my mind lately too! I will have to work part-time and I have extensive experience waiting tables and the hours are usually flexible for being a student. I noticed that a lot of the Unit Clerk jobs are full-time and/or 7 am to 7 pm shifts part time. It looks like ns is almost an every day thing with conflicting hours. How does one get a job in the medical field but also make it work with the school/clinical hours?

Ahhh, you think they are looking at the essays this week? I do not plan to call them because I think we probably won't receive letters until April 1st at the earliest based on last year's posts.

Soooo, does the admissions look at the OVERALL GPA or just the Prerequisites? My overall is not that great but my prerequisites are good. I was reading last year's UTHSCSA Fall 2010 posts and when people listed their GPAs I was confused as to if that is their overall or prereq. Anyone know?

You received an email confirming that they received your score?? I emailed the advisor the next business day after taking my TEAS (in early March) and he said he did not receive the score. I called ATI and they resent it. Then the advisor emailed me saying he got it. THEN last Thursday a different UTHSCSA employee emailed me saying that they did NOT get the score. I emailed her all my information and told her about the first email I sent in early March. The next day another UTHSCSA employee emailed me and told me not to worry about it and they were taking care of it. I still have not heard back from them. I thought they sent out acceptance letters starting Friday March 25 so I'll just be holding my breath until then.

Hi, If you have time and energy then I would go ahead and take it again. A 79% is above the national average but last year's admitted class to UTHSCSA averaged about an 84%. Is the 3.6 from community college coursework or from a 4 year university? Do you have time to study well if you took it this week? On the other hand, maybe since you are in the Air Force the school will weigh that in and a 79% could be fine. Whatever you decide to do, GOOD LUCK!

hi all, i took the teas v last weekend and did very well. i basically looked over this site and tried to follow other people's tips. i found what worked best for me was posted by "pokemon." thanks pokemon. i did not really study for the english or grammar section because i am very strong in those subjects. i basically just did the two practice tests in the ati study guide. however, i used pokemon's guide to study for the science and i received a 90 % on that portion. here is what p. posted earlier: "science -know kidney/filtration, sympathetic vs parasympathetic, functions of diaphragm, tidal volume, digestion, small intestine, cardiovascular, wbc/immune system (basics), also know what organ has endocrine/exocrine functions. -chemistry is basic. know how you get atomic mass. what a proton, neutron, and electron is. what an isotope is. real basic stuff like that. also know valence electrons. know charges. also balancing equations and know whats being oxidized/redeuced in photosynthesis (all this is in the teas study manual). also know the formulas for hydrocarbons and whats an alkane, alkene, and alkyne. real basic not too intense. know ph and characteristics of acids/bases. litmus paper turns blue/red. -you don't have to know all those kinetic and potential energy formulas in the teas v study manual. just know what kinetic and potential energy is. i suggest browsing the internet of real life examples of kinetic/potential energy. example: is water behind a dam kinetic or potential energy. teas test didn't ask for formulas just apply ke/pe to real life examples. also know scientific reasoning. mainly scientific theory. like why do we collect data for an hypothesis, or why should we repeat a hypothesis. -life science is easy. know the structure/function of organelles. know what type of membrane surrounds the cell (phospholipid). is the membrane rigid or fluid. know mitosis not really every step but rather whats the product of mitosis is. you have to know every step in the interphase of mitosis. also know what the product of meiosis is. know what happens after meiosis 2. know how dna replicates itself and what are the players involved. helicase, rna primer, dna polymeorifice what do they all do in dna replication (this stuff can be found in teas v study manual). know the srtuctural differences between dna and rna. real basic stuff like rna has one strand and dna is double. know the difference base pairs. know how enzymes, proteins, and amino acids are related and why their important to cells. know what a genotype/phenotype is. know the order or natural selection/adaption. i only had one question about punnet square. also know taxonomy (kingdom, phylum...etc). " to be honest, i took biology i & ii and chemistry i & ii in 2007. also, i just finished a&p i and am currently enrolled in a&p ii so i think those classes gave me a solid foundation for the exam. in regards to section 4-the grammar part- be sure to know rules of semicolons versus commas and proper pronoun use. for example, when to use "to whom" or "to who," etc. etc. i hope this helps a bit! good luck y'all!

Hi Kye, I think I got the same Transcript Eval. Excel that you did. Maybe they just wanted to make sure I had a copy for my records b/c Anatomy, Micro and Stats are still pending for me. Either way, I just received the TEAS invite via email! Phew, now I just need to start studying!

I just received the "Transcript Evaluateion Worksheet" email from UTHSCSA also. My status is "Eligible" so I called the Registrar to see if that was the same thing as a "TEAS V" invitation. She said, "No." I wonder why they would tease us like this!?!

Okay, I literally JUST received this generic email that I am sure you all received too. It is from UTHSCSA with a list of specific dates: Mon. Feb. 7: TEAS invites go out Fri. March 25: Admission offers sent out I wish it was late March already!!!

Nope. My guess that the advisor who said J.31-F.2 was just giving a rough estimate. I noticed from last year's thread (Fall 2010) that most people started posting about their TEAS invites around the 11th of Feb. so maybe we will start to hear more in a couple weeks...
