Pre-nursing student
if you *know* that your husband has control-issues and you have support from other people, then go to school! i think it is important to understand his reasons for asking you to stay at home. but control is not a reason...control is irrational. if that is what is happening, then don't let him stop you. in fact, i think it is important to struggle against that type of behavior.

Pre-nursing student
i think nursing is a family oriented job because you can make decent money while working part-time. you could, in a non-confrontational way, suggest to your husband that you need to have a way to support yourself and the kids if anything should happen to him. also, find out if there are some fears that are driving his decision. is he worried that you will "meet someone else"? a lot of men have that fear. however, jennys77 has a good point. if your husband really feels strongly that you should not go to school, who is going to stay with the kids? i'm not saying that you should have to suffer, but neither should the kids. maybe you should wait until they are a little older and in school to pursue your goal of nursing school. don't let age be too much of a hurdle...you have many years ahead of you...and they are good years!! it isn't all about being young...it's about starting down a career path at a time that is right for you and your family. best of luck to you!!

Job Market (Specific to Psych Nursing)
i'm not a nurse...i'm seriously considering nursing, esp. psych nursing. from what i've been reading, i think there might be jobs available in psych because many nurses prefer more "glamorous" specialties, such as med/surg or ER. also, i have a relative who works in the medical field. anything to do with the problems with the brain, etc. really frightens her. i think there are *many* people out there who would avoid psych nursing because of this type of fear/discomfort. so it's up to the rest of us to consider psych. if we don't, who will??

I had an epiphany today
what a dumbass that guy was!! argh...so frustrating!! "you're just giving me a ride..." whatever dude. i wish you could have said, "i'm a nurse...you know what rhymes with nurse? HURSE. and that's going to be your next ride if you don't tell me your medical history!"

Other jobs for BSN with revoked license?
I agree with this idea. By going in a new career direction, the whole license issue can be circumvented. I would also recommend talking to a career counselor before choosing the new career direction...maybe find a better fit the next time around.

Student Loan Defaulters ONLY
To the OP: I don't know if all of this advice is helping. Yes, we all make choices when we are young, and we have to live with them. However, I hope you know that there are people out there who *care* and I am one of them. :)

Student Loan Defaulters ONLY
Still, forbearance and deferment is preferable to **defaulting.** do whatever you can not to default.
-
Student Loan Defaulters ONLY
are they government loans? if so, there are so many options for forbearance due to financial hardship. also, if you are taking just 6 credits of school, you can defer your student loan payments. if you can take a few courses, maybe you can both advance your job skills and postpone your student loans until things are better.

Falsely Accused of Verbal Abuse
Talk to several attorneys (I recommend contacting Chartwell Associates...they are a large firm, with many specialties). Tell the attorneys *exactly* what you have written here. Especially the part about the DoN having only been at the facility for 3 days. See if any of them are willing to work on a pro-bono basis...meaning they collect payment only if you win the lawsuit. I know someone who works as a union organizer for cnas. he might be able to provide some advice. email me here if you would like me to put you in touch with him: [email protected].

Just want to share the news; I got a JOB
I just wanted to encourage you...have a relaxing weekend, talk to your support network, and congratulate yourself on your hard work of getting this far!! You got hired!! That is a goal you have accomplished. It means the people who hired you saw a professional with the right skills. Also, this is something I always do to help me feel less anxious...envision the worst case scenario, and then realize even if that happens, it is not the end of the world. It helps take the fear out of things, and helps me focus on what *I can do* to succeed. You can't control everything...just focus on doing your best. Good luck!!

online nursing programs that don't require you to be a RN
You can do the non-clinical classes by applying to an online school, doing two years, then transferring to a local school for your clinicals. Say you applied to an online school in a degree like Biology. Or, sometimes there is a degree called Health Sciences. You could take all the non-clinical classes online: Basic Bio, Anatomy and Physiology, Chem, Sociology, Psychology and maybe Statistics or Microbiology. You could probably take all these courses online, along with your Gen-Eds, if you don't already have a Bachelor's. Then, you could apply for transfer to a local school for nursing, and just do the clinical courses to get your BSN.

Student Loan Forgiveness for Nurses??
student loan forgiveness is awesome. i have no clue why some people here are against it. think of the greedy financial "professionals" who drove our economy into a major recession. then think of the hard work that nurses, social workers, teachers and other people do that is actually *work*......work that doesn't involve hiding money in the cayman islands or manipulating the stock market to make easy money. the helpers in our society *deserve* loan forgiveness. they've earned it!! give yourselves a break, for crying out loud. you all are hard workers!!

and another brick wall
if it helps, one of my aunts has years of experience as a cardio nurse...she is trying to get back into the profession after raising her kids. she has great qualifications, but she has been looking for months with no job offers. i would keep trying...what about working in another job while you keep applying for nursing jobs? best of luck!!
