  1. Hello, has anyone obtained a new york license by endorsement? I am trying to figure out the process for applying I have a Maryland and DC license. It states that I have to get certification of my professional education. Just confirming, I have to get my school to fill that out? And the verification of other professional licensure, who does that come from? It says it can come from Nursys. I don't understand how to go about doing that. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Hello all, Just trying to inquire about a nursing program that doesn't require the TEAS for my sister. She has taken the exam 3 times and keeps getting the same score, not a passing score. She is starting to feel very discouraged. I told her to look into schools that don't require it, as I don't want her to give up on nursing. Anyone know schools in Maryland? An associate program is fine. Thanks.
  3. Thanks for posting this and to everyone else for their advice. I am also trying to figure this out for myself and am leaning towards the accelerated BSN.
  4. thanks to all for the advice. However, I am not looking for an accelerated program since I am working right now. Also, I am aware that everything can't be online. I don't mind doing clinicals, I just mean for when I start out and do regular coursework. So just to be clear, there are no traditional programs for non-nurses that are online?
  5. thanks for the advice. Can you please explain what is ABSN and also what BON website are you referring to?
  6. Hello, I am thinking of pursuing online schooling to get my BSN and wanted to know if there are any programs for people who are not already an RN or CNA. I do not have any type of training in this field already. I only have a BS in public health. Do online programs for people who don't have any prior training exist? Thanks.
  7. There has to be a middle ground. If a person wants to work, they have no choice but to choose a 4 yr program? I believe I can work and still complete a program in less than 4 yrs. I may just have to do an accelerated program and find the time to work because I can't do a 4 yr program...
  8. Good morning. Are there accelerated programs out there that offer a part time option, particularly in the Maryland, DC, va area. Thanks.
  9. Hi blueindigo. I believe the main difference is that CNM's have a core focus on women's GYN health as it relates to pregnancy and birth and also focuses on infant care. WHNP's provide care care for women from the time of menarche into adulthood, including menopause. But their focus also includes pregnancy/birth. So I think WHNP is more of an all-incompassing focus, though I am aware that CNM'S are able to provide wellness care to non-pregnant women. The two credentials just compliment eachother nicely I think.:)
  10. Look into Georgetown. They did have this option, and I believe they still do.
  11. Hello all. My ultimate goal is to become a CNM. However I do think doula work is a great way for a midwife to develop the skills to emotionally support mom. I would like to attend a doula training but don't know if I should certify. For someone who's goal is to work as a doula, I think that certifying can be very important. But my goal is to attain doula skills and ultimately become a cnm. So would it be worth it for me to fully certfiy or is attending a workshop good enough? Thanks.
  12. It was my understanding that all nurse-midwives and cnm training programs follow the midwifery model of care rather than the medical model. Yes they are nurses, but they are midwives as well. So, to be clear, all cnm's and cnm programs do not follow the midwifery model of care and the non-interventionist approach? thank you.
  13. I would love to attend the yale program. It seems like you'd be done a lot sooner compared to other programs. The only thing is location. I do not want to have to relocate to go to school, which is why I am looking at the Georgetown program.
  14. thanks for the information about the yale program. It sounds like a great program. So during the prespecialty year, are you doing general clinicals like you would in nursing school? And then you become an RN and begin pursuing your specialty? You said there are other programs that are similar to Yale's direct entry program. Can you name them?
  15. Thanks for the advice. I guess it is typical. I guess it isn't so bad. I could learn to like that aspect, especially if it is a break from being on call all the time.
