Thanks--------caliotter3 Monkey---------yes use the cd in study mode------------I did it nonstop for about 5 days prior to test... On NCLEX, there was nothing that I did not know due to using that cd from the book. If I had any advise, it would be to get another book for the priority questions. I should have. I excel in the content area, but for some reason cannot master those questions. I always feel that they are too subjective or that not enough information is given... Also--------------LOOK closely at diseases that require isolation, from birth and up, and remember those----------when to wear mask, gown, glove , hepa etc... I feel as if the NCLEX was frazzled with me... I knew that I was acing the hard questions and missing the super easy. Then, about 8 times through the test, my screen went blank for 15-60 seconds. So I guess it was trying to decide what to give next.

I bought a book called "Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN" by Mary Ann Hogan------------- All i did was practice questions on the cd with rationale. I have 6 other friends that have the same book. So far 2 have passed, hopefully I did with the PVT pop-up, And the others are taking NCLEX in the upcoming weeks.--------------------- I purchased it at a used store for $20. The cd is good. It will show you your strengths and weaknesses. I found by doing the questions fast (30 seconds or less) that my overall score increased by 8%. So, on the NLCEX, I went as fast as possible.

Never lose faith. My wife is a wonderful nurse, she is just horrible at test taking. On try number 10-------------yes 10---------------------she passed------------- What she did to pass was really learn and practice test taking strategies.

Well, today was the day of my test. I do not know what was worse, hearing noisy car mufflers off in the distance or my heart thumping at 135+ while using the ear plugs. I studied a lot for the test and found it to be of no use. The NCLEX quickly determined that my weakness was Priority questions. As far as questions go, I received 215 and finished in 1 hour and 58 minutes. I had around 30 SATA and close to 75 priority questions. The good news is that I received the good pop up.

Hi, previous Army here..... Are you able to be switched to another preceptor? As far as your preceptor goes, if she had a problem with you smoking, her, in the role as preceptor, should have been able to tell you what acceptable smoke breaks are. If she is not able to mentor/manage a nursing student, then she has no business being in that role. The school works for you and needs to place you elsewhere. It appears for what ever reason, the both of you are not a match. The school of course will take the hospital's side, if they did not, they would lose valuable slots. Bottom line is, they need to place you somewhere else.

First ... I am a male nursing student posting in the male nursing student thread. Followed by posting in a category entitled "Male OB Frustration"...Does this sound like it's going to be a warm and fuzzy topic? Second...If you wish to lecture someone on "Professionalism", I will gladly give you the name and number of my OB instructor and I am sure other males on here would do the same. Third...Please show me exactly where I decided to throw being a patient advocate out the window. I was simply stating the fact of "samirish" trying to stereotype women was absurd. She could have easily found and cited some research topics off of pubmed or something. Fourth... Since you wish to remind me what is learned in nursing school, let me reeducate you on never giving up your "Scope of Practice", whether to another medical discipline OR someone else in the Nursing profession. Fifth...What, cause I am a Male I should be limited to positions of ICU, ER or patient lifter. Sixth...Hopefully, one day when I am a older, wiser male nurse, I will still have the gusto to stick up for myself instead of coming off as a Gelding.

Well, a certain percentage of women patients had NO problem with a male getting them to an OB floor in the first place. OMG... You write like YOU have a golden ***** and speak for all women. How many babies have you had? How embarrassed would you be if a male asked you about your stool? How about your menstrual cycle? How about if you perform self breast exams? How about if you practice safe sex?

To the OP: Before you go to your administration, remember that "the proof is in the pudding", with out the "pudding", ========Slander (what you have now committed) will also be addressed in your student manual----------- and the fact that you spoke with administration, will not remain a secret. Make sure that there are NO skeletons in your closet and your bedside manor and skills are impeccable. I have seen this played out first hand and it is not pretty. To Moogie: a cannot agree with you more in regards to teachers turning the other cheek, not having time or wanting to update, change or revise tests. The major issue with the OP's dilemma is now that she knows, I'm sure she has spoken to others, thus breaking the rules of any institution in regards to now passing the information on... If I was you, OP, I would make sure the teacher is a "teacher" and will help dissolve the issue. But, often times their hands will be tied when it comes to making a change or being able to edit/make new tests from their own material.

Does your student manual address the issue? Have any of your instructors prohibited the use of them, either in writing or verbally? For some STRANGE reason people believe that teachers do not know of this. They do. They know that EVERY book's test bank is readily available all over the internet. Funny though many students believe that USING a test bank is a Guaranteed "A"------- this is wrong-- Al lot of people will look at test banks and miserably fail. Most teachers will pull form at least 3-6 different books--------So---let's do the math------- Test is on 6 chapters Teacher uses 5 sources Each TEST BANK contains 20-40 questions------so we will say 30 average 6 x 30 = 180 180 x 5 = 900 Questions that the teacher can pick from, Not to mention that they may alter the question or answer------- Many times Test Bankers fail. You have to be able to NOT just memorize questions, but also understand the rationale behind them. On the other hand--------------How many times have you heard in NURSING school that you should practice as many questions as possible, so would it not make sense to LEARN all of the material in question form, versus reading plagarized power points. Now, what about using NCLEX practice books for a test, is this wrong? Even if they are from the same manufacture of the book and the questions cross match between the 2? Example-------- Test Bank----What color is the sky?Red, Blue, Green, White? NCLEX Book--Blue is the color of? Sky, Grass, Snow, Blood? Another book- Red is to blood as ???? is to Sky? It does not matter how the questions are asked or where they are from. If you know the answer you know it. Did you ever take a class, and the teacher told you what was on the test, the exact questions??????? Yes---Anatomy, in the class every student had the test bank sitting directly in front of them.All they had to do was look at the stuff, know what goes were and============Instant "A"--------------- Oh, it does not work that way. Why, because it is a lot of information, that requires constant studying and memorizing......TO MASTER it. The bottom line is if you do not understand the material in front of you, know matter where it is from, in the end you will fail.

I know what your saying. My school had other grants available for everyone, but they were 500-1200. All of the high paying ones were for females only. Down the road when I have time and money, I will set up a grant for MALE only applicants.

Sorry to hear about your clinical. At least look at the positive side, you were able to view deliveries. I was not allowed to do ANYTHING except bottle feed in post-partum. It is a shame because for some strange reason, women's health and OB is what I excel at. Hang in there and just remember some day when you have a student, Treat them well...

the following is from pennsylvania board of nursing. this same information is in regards to taking nclex and state nursing license. is your offense to be expunged ard, or ard. i know that i did something stupid but luckily it was part of a expunged ard and pa bon does not require you to declare it according to their terms. "13. what crimes must be reported by the applicant for licensure? answer: if you have ever been convicted, pleaded guilty, or entered a nolo contendere, or received probation without verdict, accelerated rehabilitative disposition (ard) as to any felony or misdemeanor, including any drug law violations, or have any criminal charges pending and unresolved in any state or jurisdiction.[color=deepskyblue] you are not required to disclose any ard or other criminal matter that has been expunged by order of a court. 14. what type of documentation does the applicant need to submit in support of the application if he/she has a prior criminal record? answer: a personal explanatory letter, it should include the following information: * the date of the criminal offense * circumstances leading up to the arrest or action * actual conviction or administrative action * actual sentence or agency order * current status of sentence or order the applicant must contact the proper licensing authority where the action was taken and request that a certified copy of the order be sent directly to the pennsylvania state board of nursing at the above address. in addition, the applicant must provide a current criminal history records check from the pennsylvania state police. for out-of-state applicants, obtain a criminal history records check from the state where you are living. the criminal history records check must come from a state law enforcement authority. applicants with a criminal history should apply as soon as possible because the application review process is longer for these applicants. applicants with prior convictions will experience a delay in the processing of their applications while all documentation relating to the matter is reviewed. after an initial review by the board staff, the applicant may be asked to provide certified official court documents relative to the criminal record. every completed application will be reviewed and considered. some will be referred to the pennsylvania state board of nursing's application committee. the committee meets in conjunction with the board meetings, so the decision may take some time. applicants should be aware that neither a temporary permit nor an authorization to take the examination will be granted until the review has been completed and a final decision has been made regarding the application."

Homewood campus has a nice summer Microbiology class------------I highly recommend it.
