IVF and EDC/EDD
Hi all, Does Nagele's rule apply to IVF clients? If not, how do they calculate the EDC/EDD for IVF clients? Do they time the embryo transfer 2 weeks after the LMP? Thanks.

Nurse Self-Defense Class
Good Idea on Self-Defense classes for nurses. Nursido or Nurskido - that's pretty funny. I'm really interested in the legal aspects of this. A couple of weeks ago I was wondering "How much force is too much force on a rowdy patient or their family members?". "Can I get sued for utilizing a martial arts move as an RN or Student Nurse?" (Maybe I can and should wait for them to throw the first punch.) It's true that martial artists are taught to walk away. Their prayer would go something like this: Grant me the courage: To walk away, before I defend myself. To defend myself, before I maim (the attacker). To maim, before I get killed. To kill, before I get killed. Don't get me wrong, we are also taught to fight for what is right. If I see a co-worker or co-student getting assaulted, I will step in. Martial artists are also taught not to teach anyone outside the studio the techniques of the martial arts. Not because we want to keep it to ourselves, but because they believe that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Advanced/higher moves are built from the basics and the previous moves like a stepladder, thus, the belt system. (White to yellow to Orange to Green and so on and so forth). One can injure themselves and others if not properly trained. Hapkido is the Korean art of self defense utilizing locks, etc. I for one believe that there is not a single martial arts that is an answer for everything. Judo, for example, is great in closed quarter combat whereas Tae Kwon Do (with it's gravity defying kicks) would be ineffective. Good Luck on your endeavors for Nurskido. Good Thread.

Phi Theta Kappa... is it worth the $55 bucks?
I am a current member of PTK. Got my membership by getting straight A's on 18 credits of sciences (Microbiology, Developmental Psych, Nutrition, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry) one quarter. Join if it's not to steep. I joined for the bragging rights. Got myself a T-shirt and sweatshirt from their website too. No experiences though if it would help in anything. Sorry. Congratulations for all your hard work.

Survey: Should nurses from other countries be recruited to aid in the nursing shortag
My mistake. I should have compared between two evils. Those that try and those that don't. Plus I was trying to be nice and not to offend anyone (this is after all an International board). YES, that is the biggest pet-peeve (we are on the same wavelenght) when you know they are sucking benefits from the american people's health care system yet they don't even try to understand the language and all they ask for immediately is an interpreter. :angryfire Why do we have to learn their language when they are the ones that come to the United States anyway? They can easily learn ours. I'm being a bit of tangent, I think, so I'll leave it at that.

Survey: Should nurses from other countries be recruited to aid in the nursing shortag
yes, at least if they prove themeselves worthy of being called rn's through passing the nclex/cgfns (etc, etc...), they will become productive members of the american society. unlike some people who come to the united states, can't speak a word of english (which is fine), but what gets me is those that don't even try. :angryfire stay on government assisted living for a couple of years and ohhh, maybe have quite a few number of kids for tax deduction and welfare purposes.....(some have admitted to doing it on purpose too) :angryfire they are just plain playing with the system.:angryfire while we hard-working people suffer and don't get the tax-breaks they do. etc, etc, etc....:angryfire everyone knows what i mean. i'm sure y'all have encountered these types.

echocardiogram
"not usually performed by nurses" means exactly just that "not usually performed." 5 to 8 people really don't sum up the rn population in the us. statistically speaking, it won't even pass as a group representation.she (suzanne) was only trying to help.

The rules of life
Food 4 thought: If you go inside a salon/barber shop and find two hair stylists/barbers, one with a bad hair cut and one with a great hair cut. Have your hair done by the one with the bad hair cut.:)

Are you in Nursing for the Caring or the Cash?? Be Honest
Job stability. Not the money. Let's face it. The money's alright but for the amount of work and stress you RN's have...it ain't much. I was in Medical/Pharmaceutical Sales (a sweet, sweet job BTW) and was making more money than my RN wife. BUT I was laid off twice... so here I am, getting an ADN and maybe work as an RN or maybe go back to Pharmaceutical/Medical sales. That's the nice thing about being an RN......a lot of doors suddenly open.

wish I would have caught her name
I heard there were 3 health care professionals. One MD (Japanese), 2 Nurses. None of them knew each other, but as luck would have it, all their department/expertise is in...........OB.
