Mine says "under consideration" still. Not sure what the difference is. Did you get the emailed questionaire/personality test? Some people I spoke with did and some didn't. It will be virtual over Microsoft Teams. I just received the call an hour or so ago.

She went to CONAH? Thats good to know, I've been hearing that it is terrifying and very difficult lol. I work at LAC USC and actually drive by CONAH daily so it has been my goal to go there for awhile, but GCC can get me to NCLEX in half the time so, IDK..... lol.

Hi! I just got an acceptance email for GCC LVN - RN! Here's my predicament, and I can't even call it that really because I feel so grateful, but I also got an acceptance for CONAH. I'm torn on which one to accept, CONAH would be 2 years since I applied for the generic RN program, but it is supposed to be a really great clinical based school. Does anyone have any details how GCC's program is, especially the schedule of classes? I know that their pass rate is really good, but I think it would all come down to the schedule since I work full time.

That sounds like an amazing career. I am an LVN in the Psych ward at an acute hospital, but we don't admit minors, and Im sure it is a lot different then dealing with adults. I eventually want to work with children and adolescents who have been through trauma, in home as well as with natural disaster and war, etc, hopefully one day on an international level. Is there anyone who has any experience in that kind of field, like a travel nurse or someone who volunteers with disaster relief?

Volunteering is a really good way to get your foot in the door. I believe all you do is contact HR and let them know you are a licensed LVN who would like to volunteer. They will most likely assume that you are looking for a position, and they really dont have anything to lose because you are giving them free labor. If they can see what kind of worker you are and they like you, especially if you make friends, they will probably keep you in mind when a position opens.

Yes definitely include clinical experience as well as any other positions youve held that show your working habits. I am a new grad but i was just hired at an acute hospital, and I know a part of it was because I have 6 years of customer service experience, 3 as management, even though I have no nursing experience. In the interview they focused a lot of the questions on how I assisted my clients with problems, and related that to working with patients in the nursing field. So it might help to focus on all that you have accomplished in the field that you are in now, they will take it into account.

I took my test at the end of March, and I think almost exactly 4 weeks later I got the online results, and got the license in the mail maybe a week later. I started applying right as soon as I got the pop up (Pearson test) and I actually happened to get hired 3 days after my license info was posted online. I'm not sure if you actually need the license or just the pass letter to work, I hear different things from different people. I would definitely start applying though.

I think that it wouldnt hurt to emphasize how much experience you have in health care already. In my clinicals in school I came across many CNAs who knew more than the new LVNs, so Im sure that you would have a heads up in that department. Also, I agree with the post about just getting your foot in the door. I have several family members, including my husband who work at Kaiser, and they all tell me the same thing - if I cant get in as an LVN, get a job as CNA, desk clerk, even maintenance if I need to, because once youre in YOURE IN, and Kaiser always hires from within first.

I have just completed round 2 of interviews at an acute hospital for a position in Mental Health. The reason I even applied there is that a friend got her fresh grad job there as an LVN years ago and told me to give it a try. I did the long monotous application online, and didnt even expect a call. On a whim, I decided to walk in a resume as well, and I learned that there is an LVN test that needs to be taken. I happened to score really well, and I was called in for an interview that day, then a panel interview the next day (this was last week) SO my point is you have to make something out of nothing. Follow everything through because you really never know where you will get your break. Also, I would recommend asking around at your prior school. Clinical instructors, teachers, etc. Several of my fellow classmates are now working for the Dir of Nursing who has her own agency. Last, try home health agencies. I joined one in W Covina while I was waiting to take the NCLEX as just home care aide, but they didnt require experience esp. when they found out I was a VN student. It does give some good experience for a resume and they have LVN assignments once in a while.

Wow... I have to agree that you need to CYA!! Maybe you are being treated a little like the newbie, but it is YOUR license and you know how things need to be done, so just try to do it the right way (as best you can!) cause when it comes down to the wire and a mistake is made, chances are all fingers will be pointing in your direction. But at the same time, you are still fairly new there and will get into the groove of things. Just keep your standards where they should be and eventually people will (hopefully) try to meet you halfway. Last, this is probably going to be a temporary stop on the ladder, so just pay your dues and learn as much as you can! :)

I really don't think there is anything wrong with asking, as long as it is someone who you are familiar with, and they are not under the impression that you are just trying to "use their name" or something like that. I am a fresh LVN and am applying for a position in an acute hospital. I dont have any experience and they are requesting some references, so I asked a clinical instructor and an administrator at my school, and they both said Of course! So go ahead and just ask, they will probably be flattered if anything :)
