  1. Do this! Try it before you buy it! Of course all work environments will be different, but at least you will experience with your own senses what it may be like! In fact, do this for any other fields of work that you want to explore. Then, take the classes you need that lead up to your goal. I wish I had taken the time to do this, I would have been so much more focused and motivated in school. Best of luck to you, follow your dreams!
  2. "Tolerance develops rapidly...."
  3. When I was applying to school, I wanted to get a head start on the material too, just to stay motivated! What I ended up doing was asking current students what textbook they used for nursing fundamentals and ordered a used version online. Fundamentals of Nursing will be one of the first classes you take at any program. I recommend a used version because you never know if the school you are going to will soon be switching to a new edition, plus the "old" content will still be relevant. Good luck to you and stay positive!
  4. I filled in my name with my chat handle name, and left the email address blank. It counted my vote anyways!
  5. Yep, I keep checking AN for news from other students. I started patho and pharm online so it's keeping me busy. You're not the only one!
  6. Congrats!! I wasn't there. I am in Northern California and I had work the following day, I just didn't have enough advanced notice. I could have planned for it if I had known we could attend. I'm swamped in work and school too! So happy for you!
  7. I got called and was offered admission. I just picked up my packet today. See you guys at orientation!
  8. Congrats to you too, Bizaleth! Could you share the information on the book list for those of us who are alternates? I'm trying to stay positive and motivated!
  9. i am an alternate, but the email didnt say what number!? congrats chloemay09!
  10. Ah, you're right. I just reread my paperwork, so it looks like we don't get to attend unless there are more changes in the list this month. So close!
  11. if we are on the waitlist should we plan on attending the orientation in May?
  12. Good to know, thanks Bristowa for responding!
  13. Hello! I got an email about a week ago asking if I wanted to forward my application to this program. I of course said yes! Does anyone know around what time we should expect to be hearing from them? April ish?
  14. I appreciate your optimism, lolliloo! And I'm right there with you, ms. chia. Hoping it all works out!
  15. I'm #10. I'm hoping it's my new lucky number
  16. Wow. Well, I'm further north and haven't received anything in the mail. Probably not a good sign for me. Thanks for sharing the info though. At least I'll know what to expect.
  17. Congrats on your acceptance, loliloo! When did you get your letter?
  18. Everyone hanging in there? :) I'm getting ancy! Trying to quell all the "what-ifs" popping up in my head!
  19. I applied also... waiting for March to arrive for those notifications. I'm worried my score wasn't very high. I'm curious to know what scores were admitted to last years class. Any current students lurking around?
  20. Yep, I got just got my "no" also. See you guys on next year's thread
  21. Me too, erin and cas. Even though the chances don't look great, I keep finding myself checking SOLAR just in case. Oh, and of course I am constantly checking this thread too.
  22. To Dr3amygirl and anyone else still waiting to hear a decision (myself included), Keep your chin up, high and proud. We are all still well on our way to becoming nurses. Even though we may not get accepted this time, we still have goals and direction. What do we do? We finish those outstanding prerequisites. We gain some more clinical experiences whether it is through volunteering, a job, or certifications. We rewrite those essays. We demonstrate that we are committed to healthcare and apply again! (We gotta be like Paco!) I get jealous, disheartened and disappointed following this thread but I also get excited and inspired. It will be our turn someday. Let your frustration fuel your passion as you look forwards. Wow, I wish I could lecture myself like this more often!
  23. No new tabs either... I think that means it is time to keep applying. Best wishes to all after all this waiting. Looks like more applications for me. Darn! I was looking forward to meeting you all.
  24. There are supposed to be some new tabs on the main page when you login.. one of which will say "New Student". You can check out last year's hubbub if you look up "stony brook 2010". I have a question for everyone (off topic from SB): how impacted / competitive are the community colleges ADN programs in your area? I am from California, and in general I have heard that all the community colleges here are swamped with students, so much so that there are lotteries to even be placed on a waiting list several hundred students (several semesters of wait time) long.
  25. **SIGH*** Yes, the timing of this affects us all! The semester starts at the end of Jan, and I would take different classes depending if I was accepted or denied....! Hearing back NOW would make this all so much easier!! Congrats MisStaken314, I'm glad you got in somewhere. Either way, I'm sure the one or two years will go fast. If you look at it this way, if you started the two year program now, that is 6 months before SB would start classes, so the two year program for you would only be an additional 6 months longer than the accelerated. I wish I was in your shoes! I hope you take that as a comfort! :)
