RN Salary in Dallas, Texas (2017)
Hello everyone, I know this is an older thread but I am moving back to texas in a month. I have had an interview and job offer from Baylor starting pay 31.37/hr $3 dollar evening, $5.00 nights and $6.00 weekends for the Float Pool. I have interview with THR for Observation Unit starting pay 35.12 $4 dollar evenings, $4.25 nights and 9.00 weekend evenings, $10.00 weekend nights. Background I am a PCU nurse with 6 years of experience total. I asked for a higher rate with Baylor and at most they are working on 33.00, am I the only one that thinks that is a little low? Am I being to picky? Any advice on which I should take?

Lying to new clients!?
Hello, I just moved to Ohio and obtained a new position at a Home Health agency, I've never worked home health before and they are trying to get a new client who is allergic to animals, they want me to talk to her on the phone and to tell this client that I do not have a dog and hope nothing happens. I don't feel comfortable doing this and if i am not mistaken I could lose my license if this client goes into an asthma attack ( in which she stated she would due to allergies ) and I had lied. Not sure what to tell my new job, afraid to lose my job though very confused is this normal in home health? I forgot to mention I've had a total of 3 hours of training and had to provide all my own supplies they provided nothing. I get no mileage coverage either.

Summer Pharmacology Class
Long story short, my nursing program is 2 years including a summer pharm class in which I am in now, it is 11 weeks and we have 4 tests and a final. I just failed my first pharm test with a 71 I am needing some study tips on what to do to help learn this material in such a short amount of time, we already have a second test this tuesday and I can't seem to retain the information in a week. I succeeded in med/surge with study groups but I can't seem to find any for pharm not sure if its because its summer or what. This is all frustrating especially when a class mate admitted to only studying 3 hours before test and passed it! When I put 2 weeks into that last one. Not sure where to go from here if I don't pass this class I dont go forward in the program. I would have to wait a year to continue and I can't afford the wait!

First med/surge clinical tomorrow
Well tomorrow is my first clinical of the second semester and I am extremely nervous. My first location is Home Health! Not sure what to do or what not to do! I know I can't pass meds but I did not get to experience anything last semester so I am wanting to jump in and get my skills down this semester since we don't have clinicals during summer! Anyone do Home Health yet that can give me any pointers, i've done it as a CNA but I imagine it is alot different as an RN! Any advice will help. We only get one chance in each area which in my opinion sucks because that means only 7 clinical days this semester! So i need all i can get during my one time in each location! Thanks!!

Moving to Mackay, AU
Thanks for the response, checked out the webpage and whatnot but it's a lot of information to sift through LOL I think I have a idea of what I need to do. When i graduate in 2012 i'll be classified as an associates degree RN, am interested in continuing my education there to gather my bachelors if need be. Oh and on my sis she's not moving back till Oct. lol and i'll take humid over 120 degrees any day :)

Moving to Mackay, AU
Hello y'all, I am to graduate in May of 2012 with my ADN in Nursing, I am going to be joining my sister in Mackay, AU shortly after I pass boards. My questions are do I need to further my education to gather a BSN, or Midwifery to better obtain a job in Mackay? When should I start the application process for a Visa? What kind of Visa should I look for? If i do have to have a BSN or Midwifery am I able to go to AU and work there to obtain it? I do not have a passport at this time, would it be wise to go ahead and start that process as well since it's just over a year away? Some of the information i've noticed on this site seems to be in code to me lol not understanding the different kinds of visa's and ways of coming over. Any and all advice will be appreciative! Thanks!

Getting over the needle queezies
Oh im in the same boat as you, being on the receiving end of horrible iv starts and blood draws, one surgery it was 17 tries to get an I.V. started. Our only "practice" was on a dummy arm with no way of knowing if we actually hit blood or went straight threw vein, and now in our second semester we will be doing blood draws and I.V. starts as well as Med injections and I am so nervous to inflict on them what happened to me!

Operating Room Scrubs Sizes
Im going to be doing my OR rotation this semester and I am terrified the OR scrubs will not fit, is 2xL the largest they normally get? I'm a big girl and worried if I can't fit the scrubs I wont be able to do the rotation! Not sure if that is a deal breaker for the program or not. Any reply would be nice, TY

Unsure of my interview
Thanks so much for your reply, glad to hear that you got the job :) I however never got a call back so I'm assuming I didn't get the job! But good to know that those types of interviews actually happen! lol
-
Where are you doing clinicals this semester?
I'm a 2nd Semester ADN student and we are doing Med/Surg 1 at our local hospital, and apparently we are going to be floating floors for 9 clinicals from surgery to dialysis.

Unsure of my interview
Well I had an interview at one of our Hospitals on the 7th, I showed up 15+ minutes early, she wasn't there yet. When she did show up closer to the actual time of interview she gave me a little tour of the "hall" Interview consisted of her asking if I knew anything of the hospital so she gave me a quick rundown of the facility like when made what departments they have and what not. Finally get to the "interview room" and we sit down. She asked where I've worked as a CNA? How long as a CNA? Have I done EKG's, Blood Sugars, Baths, and V/S? Of which I answered Yes to all but the EKG's. She stated I could train for that. Asked if I would be willing to cross train into Unit Secretary? Of course I said yes. Told me the hours and lastly asked if I had any questions? I was thrown off by the non-complexity of the interview all I asked was if I was able to go full time in the future or pick up extra hours, she answered yes. Then stated " I have more interviews and will let you know by Mon. or Tue of my decisions." Now I am totally sure I bombed the interview and got the feeling she wasn't really interested or something by the lack of actual questions. This is just a vent of some sorts, basic confusion on if this is a typical interview for a hospital. Either way, now i have to sit here and wait until Mon. or Tue. for the verdict!
