Hey there and thanks! First thing first is to try to be optimistic (but realistic). Don't down yourself until you hear anything! You never know what is going to happen! Unlike a lot of other schools, if you make it into CSUSB, we are on a quarter system and because of that each quarter is a whole rotation. First quarter is all fundamentals. In lecture, you learn about the nursing process, ADPIE, as well as basic bedside care of patients, HIPAA, safety and such... Its honestly a really easy quarter if you have some healthcare experience under your belt. If you are new to this field it might seem a little intimidating but don't worry you will do fine. As far as clinical, it is pretty much all CNA work but you do nurse assessments, help with certain procedures and stuff like that. And yes, you may have to write care plans....get a good careplan book if you can. As far as working, it is definitely doable! I have worked as a CNA before and throughout the whole program and the last quarter I obtained another CNA job (I am crazy right?) I would say part time work is doable. UNfortunately, you will have class Monday-Thursday most likely for the first year (unless something has changed). If you can work fridays, saturdays, and sundays then I think you will be fine. Just make sure you set time aside to study. I always would get to campus early and study for a bit before class in the library (4th floor has some comfy chairs). It is really hard to study at home if you have family. If you work a desk job or something where you have down time, you can always sneak some studying in there too. I try to also study on days before I work since i dont come in until 1900 and leave at 0700. Also, and probably most importantly, set time for your self aside. Don't let the program over take you. See friends and family a few times a month if you have the time. Remember, you need to keep your sanity for yourself and your patients lol. I think I pretty much covered everything! Hey guys! I was admitted to their fall 2012 quarter. Thank God only one year left for me! Lol. I just wanted to introduce myself and give you guys my stats and hopefully it will ease you anxiety! I was admitted with 3.83 GPA, 84% TEAS, letters of rec x2, county of residence and information session. Honestly everyone's stats sound super good.I think my of you won't have problems getting in. Plus winter isnt as competitive as fall. Hopefully I eased some of your fears. If you have anymore questions just post or PM me! Good luck!

I applied to be admitted fall 2012 to CSUSB, CSULB, CSULA, and RCC. I got into RCC and CSUSB first try. I have never applied before.

Hey there! I have 8 out of 9 quarters left at CSUSB. So basically a little less than 3 years lol As for CSULA, last year the lowest point value to get in was 24/30 I believe. All programs are competitive. Nowadays TEAS scores are increasing and there are way more 4.0s than ever! So I would retake your TEAS. Just try your best and turn in what you have. But don't forget to apply to ADN programs! And if you absolutely have to attend one, then make sure you get networking or get a hospital job while in school. That way when you graduate, you have an easy in. My hospital still hires ADN grads. A lot do not anymore, from what I hear, especially in this state. But at least you will have your RN! Anyway, happy New Year to you as well! Hopefully you get into your top choice for 2013!

No problem! Honestly, I would very much apply to as many programs as possible, even the ones that are far away or you may not be inclined to go to. I really didn't want to attend CSUSB but that is the only BSN program I got into, and I am really glad I got in! I thought the drive would be a pain (and it still is) but the people in my cohort are awesome and the dept is really good as well as the instructors! So my point is, apply to as many places as possible. Nowadays the chances of getting into a program on the first try is slim (i was lucky cause I applied to so many!) and as much as you may not want an ADN, I would apply to them as back up. Rather be in a program then in none at all. So good luck with CSULB as well. And enjoy your break from school. Once the program starts (no matter where you go) its all busy work and studying. So enjoy no school while you can!!!

@carol220 I got as far as an interview for CSULB. I had about a 9.13 (which wasn't good enough anyway) but I got denied to the university because I failed one engineering class years ago. The nursing dept tried to fight with admitting to let me in but they did not budge. What was really screwed up, is that they knew I could never get into the program (academic wise AND because of the university denying me entry) but let me go to the interview anyway and didn't let me know until I called over a hundred times. That nursing dept has a lot of issues and don't seem very nice to their students so I am glad I didn't end up there. But for you, good luck. There program is very hard to get into. Just put your mind to it and you will get in!

Congrats everyone who made it in! I won't see you for orientation because I will be at clinical but maybe afterwards! Start saving up some $$ now or ask for $$ for Christmas! It's going to be expensive. I would start looking for a CPR class soon, preferably a cheap one. Also get health insurance now if you don't have it. Get started on your vaccines like hep B, DTAP, varicella, polio series and flu shot. Don't get them just make appointments for them. And your physical. Plus you will need a 2step PDD test (tb). Shoes and uniform are expensive. Then there is ATI which you won't need til later but it's $400+ so keep that in mind. Anyway sorry for scaring you guys. Better be prepared then not right? Those stats were the same I had minus being bilingual when i got into for fall 2012. i am sure you are are fine. dont stress. relax now because once you get in and start, your free time is gone!

Hey guys! sorry for not being on. Its my first week and we have about 15 chapters to read and two papers to write already! (i hope i aint scaring any of you!) anywho stats are all good. idk how winter is but this fall was very competitive. the average GPA was 3.8 and the average TEAS was 91% i think. it was the highest they have ever had! but as i said, winter is easier than fall. just make sure you can retake the TEAS if its lower then you want since they allow unlimited retakes. i wish you all good luck! you can try and pm me if you have questions, but i am afraid i will be plenty busy this quarter. i will try and get on to check but if i dont. you guys who get in for winter will know why

am90 is correct. I did not attend a school in SB county either. I moved to SB county mid way thru the application cycle and got the points. I would make sure you email or call the actual person that evaluates. The reason being is that they have made a change already to the GPA requirement and TEAS requirement. They might have made a change regarding the county and foriegn language, which I heard was coming. Worst case scenario, is you don't get in. If your comfortable with you stats, then I say go for it. Winter is easier to get into than fall, from what I hear. Our cohorts averages were the highest recorded ever as well. So keep that in mind and good luck! I hope to see you in winter! :)

I got into a BSN program. My schools selections was open to all applicants. As long as you got into the university, and had the minimum TEAS and GPA then you could apply. The average GPA was 3.83 and avearage TEAS was 91% this incoming cohort. It was a tough one, but I made it in!

She said that she got a letter (i believe) that said she was an alternate. Then she got a call offering her a spot. I bet that all this week they will be calling potential alternates!

Yes, someone else was notified as an alternate and then got a call that they were offered a spot. I think, today is the last day for people to notify the dept. So those that are going somewhere else or didn't make a decision, lose their spot. Alternates then get notified asking if they want a spot. Hopefully you get notified alvat! I am rooting for ya Next Tuesday is orientation so hopefully they start letting people know, ASAP!

Hey there! & Congrats! I, too, am excited! But I haven't even had orientation yet! My orientation is in two weeks and classes dont start until late September because we are on quarters. I am sure that once I buy everything and finish all my vaccinations (I redid my CPR for work so thats done) it will become more real. I just want to start already!

I am not as nervous as I am excited. I want to start already. I have to wait until Sept 20th though.....

Let her cheat. One of two things will happen in the near future. She will a) get caught or b) or rely on cheating so much that either in other pre reqs or the program she will fail because there wont be a way to cheat. My micro professor used to collect everyones cell phone before an exam and put them on the front table. If your phone even vibrated, you would fail. If you stuck your phone out and didn't turn it in the front, automatic fail. Karma is a b****

Because we are the US. We are the chickens who can't stand up against this kind of crap. And the immigrants know this and take advantage of it. Why learn the language of the country you moved to cause yours sucked when your language/culture etc... is catered to you everywhere!?

Oh hey there! Well if you research through this thread you will find that there is a pic on here of how much everything is. The highest is pre req GPA (30 pts) followed by TEAS overall score (15pts) then county of residence (5 pts) the rest are worth one pt each (each letter of rec is worth 1 pt but you have to turn in both or you receive no points). They do not display how they calculate pts but I am sure if your pre req GPA is around 3.65 and higher and your TEAS is in the 80s and higher plus you live in SB or Riverside counties then I think your in (as well as have MOST of the other supplemental stuff). Depending on your stats, the letters of rec could have helped you but not much. Dont be alarmed though, you already got into CSULA, so unless CSUSB is your top choice then I wouldn't worry. I think the pass rates for CSULA are higher than CSUSB but I think CSUSB as a lot more to offer and is more student friendly. Their nursing club sounds great, the professors sound great. I hear the clinical sites (besides being in the middle of nowhere) are welcoming. But I guess I am biased lol. Anyway, if you haven't received anything by them yet, don't worry, technically the accepted students have until July 30th to respond. I believe one already opened a spot up for someone I know on here. There maybe more especially since CSUSB is one of the last schools to notify anyone. The people in the nursing dept are pretty laid back compared to other programs (CSULB is the worst by far) and very cool with answer questions to the best of their ability. The worst news is, you will have to wait and see how many decline their spot.
