Are there any nurses that are not vaccinated? How to prepare to be safe at work?
I stand by my right to state that I now have a natural immunity to Covid. It is my personal right to refuse vaccination. Especially in view of the side effects I have seen within my own family. I made this post in an effort to show the two sides to any story as well as encourage you to think outside the box. I see my effort was futile. As far as additional illness , I am more afraid of Enterovirus D 68 (EV-D68).

I am not here to argue with you. I have immunity. I will deal with your worry about the next time when I get there. Please stop with the invalid arguments and explain to me why a person with immunity should take a non approved injection for an illness to which they have immunity. Please enclose references. As to your quip about being the unluckiest family, I sincerely doubt that .

Are there any nurses that are not vaccinated? How to prepare to be safe at work?
I am a retired RN. I tested positive for Covid in April approximately 10 days after caring for an elderly Aunt who became ill on day two post vaccination. On day three she was admitted to the hospital with a dx of weakness, mental status change. She is now in an SNF and is effectively bedridden as she is too weak to ambulate and remains confused. My covid sx were pneumonia with fever and body aches. I survived despite my history of multiple comorbidities. My question is why should I subject myself to a "vaccine" for an illness that I now have immunity? I have had several family members who received the vaccine and each one had severe adverse reactions. Another Aunt developed fever, body aches , anorexia and confusion. CVA was ruled out. She is currently cared for in her home by her spouse . Other family members had cerebral blood clots / CVA sx with noted alteration of their platelets and left sided facial paralyses, and another was hospitalized with GBS. To date, the only explanation I have received as to why I should be vaccinated is Covid is an unknown and no one knows how long acquired immunity will last. My response is that no one knows how long the vaccine immunity will last. I know that I will probably be frowned upon for my vaccine stance. Time will tell who is correct.

When Willpower Isn't Enough
There is another factor that has not been considered. Semaglutide is a tier three medication. While the price of tier three medications for the private insured patient is high, the ability to use coupons offsets the price and is a life saver for the low to moderate income patient. This is not true for the Medicare patient. Medicare patients are not eligible to use the coupons and there fore many can not afford the medication prescribed. It is not unusual as one Tier three medication can cost from $ 500 to $1100 dollars a month. I do not understand the discrimination against Medicare patients. I do however, understand the frustration of patients who have to discontinue their tier three no generic alternative drug once they transition to Medicare.

Legal obligation for disaster relief
I am retired. However, living in a coastal town, I have been subject to lock down due to impending severe weather. After the first experience away from my family for days , I decided if I must stay, it would be on my terms. The next hurricane, I brought my entire family including the cat to the ED lounge. Needless to say, my nurse manager was not a happy camper. Her alternative was to send me home. My family was settled in a patient room in the tower after extracting a promise from my spouse that the cat would be contained.

Unit is Total Chaos
After 41 years in nursing, the last 15 years in Home Health, I too have retired, not because of patient care , but because of the ever increasing computer documentation. The computer charting requirements placed me in the position that I stay in my home office area until the wee hours of the morning charting just to stay current. This is at the expense of and neglect of my family. New staff usually do not stay past their probationary period. I see the current computer demands to be the downfall of quality patient care.

Donating unwanted medical supplies
I take unopened supplies to my Vet's office. They are very glad to get them as they do a lot of charity work at the local dog/ cat rescue .

IN a SNF in another state.

Cape Fear CC 2011?
I know my daughter did clinicals in North and South Carolina, which I have to say left her better prepared to matriculate into any facility outside the New Hanover net work. Perhaps you could stay with family friends or group together and rent a hotel room the night before clinicals?

Cape Fear CC 2011?
Good luck to you! I have met many BCCC ADN grads that I respect for their competency and skills. I understand they use the same facilities as CFCC.

Do you get paid for staff meetings/case conference?
As Home Health Nurses are considered"Consultants" as if we were architects or city planners, and therefore not illegible for over time or compensation for true hours worked, my question is: Is there anything we can do to get paid for hours worked. It is conceivable that during the on call period, nurses have literally worked around the clock and had to use vacation time when they were too exhausted to go on. Such policies need revision, but I fear we have no none to champion our cause.

What kind of bag do you use?
I purchased a craft tote from Wal-mart that has 9 individual inner sections and multiple zippered pockets on four sides. To this, I added a 20 inch zippered topper that I made and sewed into place to keep contents secure.I have a clean and a dirty side and have Velcro attached my sharps container to the dirty side. Custom made and works for me.

Do you get paid for staff meetings/case conference?
We are only paid for home visits, travel / driving time, mileage is forty cents a mile and on call is $ 1.25 an hour. The weekly mandatory staff meetings are not compensated. Standard is 27.5 visits per week. I routinely see a weight of 30 to 35 and am up late charting each night. I wear out a set of ties every year. I am tired, but I love my patients. I do wish I had a life outside of HH.

It's all about control. If you knew the core group of management , you would have your answer.

As a veteran of "The Network" AKA New Hanover Regional Medical Center , I can substantiate the above posts describing the terrible work situation at New Hanover. It is a given that longevity is frowned upon as they do not desire to pay for it. Most unit managers are travelers who are there to keep the ship running and move on as quickly as possible. Think things are different at Cape Fear? Not a chance as it is run by the same management team. Ditto for Pender Memorial and Dosher as they are in the Net work. Wilmington is a beautiful historic town with a host of amenities. It is a shame and a blight that one of the county's largest employers is non supportive of their staff. May I suggest: Brunswick Community Hospital Brunswick Community Hospital or Wilmington Surg Care about - Surgcare of Wilmington New Hanover Health Department Home NC DOC: Employment at the North Carolina Department of Correction There is always the jobs posting in the local news paper: Wilmington NC news, sports, weather, Wilmington film news, homes | StarNewsOnline.com | Wilmington Star News that include local Home Health, Doctor's office and free standing urgent care openings . I was one of the lucky ones that got away, found a good position with an company that is fair and pays well. We have zero turnover. That speaks for itself. I hope this helps.
