  1. Is this a question of which is more important: happiness, sanity, good health, family time VS. money and employment??? Its hard to choose in this economy. However, i'll chose the first one.
  2. Yeah, it must have been hard. I also have a cousin who hasn't passed yet. I think it was her 2nd take. Hope she passed the 3rd time. Like what they say, "3rd time is a charm." Goodluck to all.
  3. Yeah, I remember when computer jobs is a hot ticket then. Now, not anyone in the computer field is finding a job and probably working somewhere else. So is this considered a NURSING BUBBLE that also burst?????? I just hope it doesn't happen with nursing in general. This really gives me a creep when I think of it. Stay positive, stay positive I say.
  4. Can someone answer this questions: 1. When you see a job posted online for new grads, does it really exist? Why when u call or go in person the HR doesn't seem to care? 2. How many applicants usually apply for one position? Is it more than 500 per 1 position since more and more students graduate per semester? What does the future holds? 3. What do you do in your spare time besides looking for a job? How do you maintain a positive outlook? 4. Does your family and friends asked you why you're still unemployed as a nurse? What do you tell them?
  5. The field of medicine get respected. MD's are proud of their profession. The field of nursing gets scrutinized. Just read other posts in this site. Too many to mention.
  6. Its because we didn't know then...that is the answer. I really would like to pursue my masters in nursing so I wouldn't be stuck doing bedside nursing forever and break my back. From reading other posts, a higher degree means = not getting your hands dirty, go home in time to spend with love ones, happy stomach & bladder (be able to take lunch and breaks), work 8 hours a day only + weekend off, power to delegate, get respected in the healthcare community. I forgot I still don't have a job because nobody wants to hire me since I dont have at least 1 year of experience. Duh....
  7. This is the same advice I tell my family and close friends. I tell them to take something else like engineering or physical therapist. I am also unemployed for more than a year now and been frustrated with the current market for new grads. I would rather have someone tell me this straight forward earlier than finding out later that the grass is not greener once you get your license. But its too late now. Many hopes and dreams have been shattered because of this recession. Many gave up their previous jobs to go to nursing. Others have enormous loans they have to repay back (just wondering how). Some are regretting loss family bonding time because of nursing school. And in the end, it all amounted to this: unemployed, frustrated, angry, and broke. Yes, it is not only nursing in general. But isn't it suppose to be in demand? Where is the nursing shortage? You may say, but its only temporary. How long can we wait or can you afford to wait (w/o your parents support)? Should we believe another expert telling us one thing but leads to another? I dont know. If you are one of those who says its not that hard to get a job or you recently got a job as a new grad, would you mind posting where this is and what company. I would really like to know. Oh by the way, some internet job posting for new grads are outdated. You will get an automatic email saying "Thanks for applying....we regret to inform you...." They are just there for display. Happy job hunting.
  8. Hey guys, im in the same shoes. Ive been frustrated, angry, depressed about this job market for us new grads. I thought about joining the military. Does anyone know someone in this field? I heard they also have a waiting list to join as an RN? Is this true for Air Force and Navy branches?
  9. I would choose OT or PT compared to RN. Trust me, you will thank us someday.
  10. Honestly, don't quit your job. Save yourself some time & money and look at other careers. Nursing is so saturated right now that 300-500 applicants per 10-15 position. Whats worse...more nursing students are graduating every year. If you are skill skeptical, read what others have written in this site.
  11. This should be a BIG WARNING for people thinking of going to a private nursing school. Hope u find a job too because I've been waiting for almost 2 years without success. Welcome to the club of unemployed, hopeful, discouraged RN grads!!! PS: Hopefully the school u attended is accredited by CCNE. Otherwise, the VA will not honor it.
  12. Encourage a friend to go into a nursing career......REALLY?
  13. It will depend on who u ask. If you ask a new grad nurse (RN, LPN) who is still unemployed after many months of job searching with thousands of dollars in debt and constantly being asked by family members and friends that: "but nursing jobs are always in demand," and trying so hard not to be depressed with his/her current situation because he/she feels that his/her nursing degree will do no good outside of the healthcare field in comparison to other degree (accounting, social work, engineering, etc.) and wished he/she should have pursued a degree other than nursing...THATS A BIG HELL YEAH! If you ask a working nurse with a # of years behind his/her back, it will be 50/50. Retirees always said No...duh! It just depends on where you are coming from.
