  1. Well done, I hope you got a big thank you from management
  2. I was correcting you when you said you could not find a degree course as I said a simple google search found three courses, I am unaware of any doctorial course, but as you said you are only moving to that in the US at the moment so it may be difficult to find there and in all honesty I have not bothered to google for the information. You will find board certification difficult to find in the UK as it does not exist.
  3. a quick google search and i have found three masters courses for neonatal nurse practitioner in the uk, [color=#3e3e40][color=#3e3e40][color=#3e3e40] courses are offered at the university of salford, university of east anglia and the university of central lancashire.
  4. Personally I would say nothing but if someone brought this to my attention as the manager I would also be looking into the nurse who ignored hypotension as well as the nurse who pushed the drugs
  5. When I qualified in 1994 few of our group got jobs immediately, I spent arround 5 months doing bank work then got a 35 hour job contract then after a year got full time. My current trust is cutting staff training (which I provide) at the same time as trying to get external contracts to provide training to other trusts, I have a feeling I will be looking for another job soon
  6. I would not apologise, what they were doing was risking their mothers care and you acted appropriately
  7. I would think if you cand get a transport vent then I would call the budget holder down to do all bagging and be exposed to all the radiation untill they get you one. The only time I have been involved with bagging a patient trough CT was a weeks old child who we needed to CT while waiting on the retreival team (they requested the scan) and our vent could not go to a tidal volume low enough
  8. I am from the UK and was reading a thread on a US disney forum where a parent stated that he "demanded they do a CT" on his son. Just wondering how common demanding investigations was and if patients get them given that they may not be indicated (in the case in question an ultrasound would have been more appropriate if any investigation was to be done)
  9. Hi Tiffany, in my hospital (I am in the UK) we would call for peds for any child in the paed ward (16 years or younger) or in the ED but any child 16 or older admitted to an adult ward would be delt with by the adult team. We also call the adult team for paed arrests due to the fact that some of the children are bigger than the team members! We the same aduit form for adult and paed arrests. We reagrd anyone 16 or under who is still at school as a child, 16yo who has left school go to adult services
  10. I cant offer any advice but I am in a similar situation, I sbmitted all my information and fees then three months later got an e-mail telling me I now need a SSN etc. I have had several e-mails to the BON and can get nothing other than a curt response that "all fees are non refundable" which I feel is morally wrong and probably legally incorrect given that they changed their conditions.
  11. i have been requesting a refund of my fee from asbn and so far have received these e-mails "thank you for your communication; however, all fees are nonrefundable" and when i asked where it says this on the information they supplied me... "all fees are nonrefundable" these are the e-mails in their entirity, no explanation of who the person replying is or a signature (and obvioulsy an opening salutation is too much to hope for). i do appreciate that this situation is not of the boards making but they are not covering themselves in glory with how they are handling the situation
  12. I am afraid they recieved my application on 22nd July so it applies retrospectively
  13. Just arrived by e-mail " Arkansas State Board of Nursing (the Board) has received your Examination Application for International Graduates form. However, a social security number is required for individuals applying for licensure. Please refer to the Examination/International Application & Instructions, located on our website at http://www.arsbn.org. You may locate the referenced information by clicking on the Forms tab. Applications for licensure applicants that were submitted to the Board prior to this date are placed in an inactive status until receipt of proof of a social security number and all other required documents as identified in the International Graduates Licensure Examination Application Instructions referenced above. Additional information regarding each step in the process is included within the packet of materials on our website. Please read and follow directions carefully. "
  14. Thanks for letting me know, I have applied for eligibility to test so am one of the 600 in the line waiting
  15. We admit kids to our adult ICU (in the UK) while waiting on the paeds retreival team (can take up to 12 hours plus), we have actually had parents call and ask if their child can be transfered back to us us they feel our care was better! Interestingly in the UK Paeds and Psych are seperate nursing registrations from Adult (adult being 16 plus) although there are some of us "older" Nurses who were trained as "general" nurses so did mainly adults but also some psych and paeds (simmilar to US training)
  16. In my hospital we arrange a "debrief" session after all paediatric arrests, all staff involved ER/ICU/Paramedics/Paeds etc I usually facilitate this. We have access to councelling through occupational health. A childs death is always a traumatic event despite how "hardeded" you are, I have 19 years experience, 11 of which are purely in Resuscitation of adults and children yet two weeks ago I delt with a 2yo who drowned and found myself in tears for a few days after, so despite experience it is always a really traumatic event
  17. There has been a rather heated discussion on health inusurance and drug coverage on a disney forum I subscribe to and it got me thinking (I am from the UK so not really familiar with US health care), what happens if a patient is unisured but requires care, not thinking on "emergency" care such as major trauma but more arround cancer or long term health needs. I am not trying to start a discussion on the NHS VS US health care but am genuinely interested in the situation in the US for uninsured patient. Thanks Colin
