  1. My relative is a manager with Pearson. She said that there really is no need to do that. If you pass, then the computers give you a board of license number so you can actually check your state board of nursing and you will see you have a number for the license.
  2. Hi! Well when I went to the specialist, they said that they could not find anything on the level two. Kidneys were normal and the measurement on the back of the neck was 4 compared to the first ultrasound where the thickness was 5.3 and the kidneys were enlarged. They said that they would just put me at normal risk but I had the amnio anyways, mainly for my husband because I know that having two different outcomes was kind of frustrating for him. I am sure everything is fine, but the peace of mind will be nice & if it did come back abnormal, at least I could start my research and etc. Anyways, thank you very much! I appreciate all of your help and information!

  4. Thank you all very much! I had no idea what to do because nobody would tell me anything and I am just so confused! They made my appointment for this friday the 10th. I will have a level two ultrasound first, followed by genetic counseling and then they have an amnio scheduled if needed. Thanks again everyone!
  5. I hope I have it right...I just had my ultrasound at 20w4d and they told me that there is a possibility my baby has downs syndrome. I have to have an amniocentisis...could there be another reason for this? They said there was a thickness of the back of the head/neck and the kidneys. They wouldn't tell me anymore and want me to wait until I see the specialist. I am just looking for any inofrmation b/c I am confused and do not understand what is going on!
  6. This makes me feel old at 24 b/c I only buy watches with second hands!
  7. Thanks for your reply! I am sorry I didn't see it sooner, it didn't notify me like it normally does. I'll have to let you know next year now. When they found out I was pregnant, they "asked" me not come. I live in Mannsville, but chose the Oswego County program over the Jeff. County one because I have not heard any good things about the program in Jeff. Cnty. Thanks again!
  8. You know, I completely understand where you are coming from. I have majored in everything out there just trying to find what fit me. There is so much out there to choose from and yet in the back of our minds we know we need to make a living, have security...etc. I also care about where I go to school. I like to go where I am going to be challenged intellectually and pushed to do my best. I really wish you the best of luck in your process of deciding what to do. It is so frustrating!! The health care field is huge and somewhere in there will be something you love. Who knows...your path may not even take you to health care. Five years from now you may end up somewhere different. Either way, it will all work out. But listen to your gut! I knew a few years ago that I wanted to be a RN, but I ignored it for a year...then my SIL went for her LPN and I didn't want to go the same time as her..then I finally decided to go for my LPN but recently that door closed and you know what...I am now studying biology and will be starting my RN June of '05. It may of taken me 4 years to get here, but it did even though the whole way I was so upset because I felt like I was getting nowhere. Maybe I should of just gone for the RN from the start, but I have grown a lot on my way to this point. I know that this is what I really want, I know what to expect and I am ready. All I am trying to say is that it will work out! Good luck!
  9. That is true. I apologize to the op. We need to set a good example. What kind of impression are we giving of the nursing profession if we act like this.
  10. i just think that maybe you should stick with med school or go work in a lab, research...whatever...
  11. leslie, suzy 253 & marie-thank you
  12. I am going to be driving about 40 minutes to school and around a hour or so to each of my clinical sites. I am in school 5 days a week and I live in Upstate NY where the weather changes every five minutes and snow falls by the foot. The weather alone between November and April will turn my one hour drive into two somedays...but I do it because I want to go to this school and I want to be a nurse. It is only for a short time period and I am not sure where you live. My only question is you mentioned driving two days a week for class-that is a great idea in my opinion but don't forget you have to have clinicals also..will they be on different days? If you have the ambition then go for it! Maybe when you get there you may find someone from where you are (since it is the closest nursing school) and you can commute together. Good luck!
  13. I was asked also. I was also informed how "time consuming" the program would be and do I have "back-up" for my child since I will be so busy? They can think all they want that school comes before my daughter but I am sorry to tell them that it will never be that way. Not in school, not as a nurse...ever. She is number one! But I was told that my school asked because if you did then they would ask you other questions (child care, colds, support from others) to see if you have put thought into how time consuming and hard this is going to be and if you are prepared. Some people start and then realize they are not going to have a lot of time with family and are out in the first few weeks. Of course the school doesn't want a high drop out rate and they also don't want to give up a spot that someone who is ready to do this might have.
  14. Thank you all for your posts to my question. It helps to reinforce what I kind of knew but was not admitting to myself. When I applied to the LPN program I knew it was what I wanted yet now that I am in-all of sudden all these other professions sound so wonderful even though I know they are not what I want. Once again, my cold feet are setting in. Cold feet that I won't like it, won't make it and the biggest one is leaving my daughter 5 days a week when I have never left her once in this past year. Thanks again for helping me realize that LPN is what I really want and need right now!!!!
  15. Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing!
  16. That is what I have always done with college and I plan on doing it with nursing school this fall. I take the notes in class (mainly jot down main points) and when I get home I review the reading I had done for that class and fill in the blanks on my notes. next I type them out and they go into a three ring binder where I keep all my stuff for review and future reference. Then I start in on reading...etc for the next day. Very time consuming but it really helps me because I need to do things again and again in order to be confident in my knowledge. I am not sure how well it will work for me in nursing, but at my last college, I was a A & B student because I could always remember so much info.
  17. That is a great point about being able to see the results of helping them compared to just guiding and hoping they take our advice. I saw you are from Syracuse (I am about 45 minutes north of you) and S.U. seems to be the only school around here that you can get a MSW and then I am not even sure you could still make enough to pay off that debt!! BTW-do you work in Syracuse? Would you mind if I PM you and ask a couple questions?
  18. Thanks everyone for your replies! I am the same way-when I feel like running to human services, I think that at least with nursing I can work 3 days a week, not 5! You are also right that the pay and job security is better. It is a disgrace how much they are paid though. They really do deal with a lot of bull at least until they reach that point of institutionalization and they kind of go numb. I must just be getting cold feet the closer I get to school starting! Thanks again!
  19. Hey! I was just curious why some of you didn't go into another "helping" profession such as human services, social work...etc. I know there are a thousand threads on why you chose nursing but I am just wondering what it was about those other professions that you didn't like or whatever. I just ask because there is always a part of me that wants to go into human services. Whether it is to help families find programs to help them or get intohelping people find jobs...any of it. I have always like what case workers do along with human service/social work assitants. CASA is another one I like. Some days I feel like running from nursing and going into human services. Thanks!
  20. That is a great quesiton and I can't wait to see more answers. I was accepted into a biology program and I deferred it a year when I got into the LPN program. I am still thinking of going for it next fall, but am curious how it would benefit my career compared to going for my BSN. My thoughts are that it can only help because of the amount of knowledge you can gain. The field of biology is huge and it is the study of life. Everything is affected by biology. I would think that you could use it to fulfill any pre-reqs you may have for nursing school, or complete it and then move into a BSN program that is for people with bachelor degrees already? Just my thoughts and good luck with whatever you do!
  21. What were some of the questions? Maybe you were suppose to answer them the same if they were the type of questions that they would like to see you stick to your answers. No changing minds or reliability? I have had interviews that did that (non-nursing though) and they did it to make sure that I was being honest and straight with them. Wanted to see if I kept my stories straight about past expereince and my skills. Just a thought.
  22. Yup it was the one on MSNBC. It kind of blew me away because I have rarely heard of LPN's in units like the PICU. Good for her (and all of them) though. Thanks for replying!
  23. Hi! I also have this in the PICU forum, but I think I can get more responses here. I am just wondering if you have LPN's in your PICU. I ask b/c I was watching a program where they were following nurses in one and there was a LPN. Just curious. Thank you very much!
  24. Hi everyone! Thanks for taking the time to answer. I am just wondering if you have LPN's on your PICU. The reason I am asking was because I was watching a coverage thing on tv today and they were in the PICU...the PICU had a LPN working and I was just wondering how common that is. Thanks again!
  25. Hi and welcome!!!! I see you live in Washington-what is it like? I cannot stand where I am b/c of the weather (it is the middle of August and we are having highs of 62 & lows of 40 when norm is high 90 low 78 for this month). Welcome and good luck with school! Check out student nursing forum!
