Disability
:)I've been in college a year now, and I have been taking my prerequsite classes. I am having trouble with algebra and writing papers within a time limit without having a limit number of errors in my papers. I really struggle at times with writing/math. I'm afraid to apply for disability because I'm afraid I will be disqualify for the nursing program if they see I had extra time writing papers doing my algebra. I do fine in classes requires memorizations of the material. I think it's funny because I can correct grammar in a english paper but I can't write. Maybe, I get nervous or have test aniexty. I have a speech impair which isn't real bad. I don't always speak clear and certain letters are hard for me to say so I don't know if that will disqualify me. What does your school do about people with disabilities who want to go into nursing and Do you know nurses with disabilities? Our program requires a S.A.T score so If I scored high on it and keep my GPA 4.5 I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to go into nursing. A advisor ,not a nursing advisor, told me if I don't take english, algebra, psychology, biology together that I won't be qualify because they want see that you can do a full load. You ever heard of that? I'm taking English and algebra this semester so i can get them down because they are very important. Thank you for you time and hope you can share some stories with me.

I let family discourage me!Should I go through Rn or do diff program?
I started school Jan 3 of this year and I'm confussed about if I should continue my classes and go through RN program or go LPN first. I'v even looked into the Radiology, and paramedic programs at Technical School to see if it would be a shorter route for me. My sister was talking about how she spends a lots of time with her children and etc and made feel like I wrong for going school. I feel like people try to discourage me from going school. Do ya'll ever feel that way? I work Friday and Saturday night and go school Mon-Thursday in morning when she is in school. I help her with her homework but make her do most of it because it won't help her learn if I do her homework. I know I need to spend little more time with her. I'm home with her in afternoons but that not spending time with her. I have homework to do too so try finish her and my homework too. Did any of ya'll have kids while in school. do ya'll think it is hurting her progress in school for me to be in school and not spending all my time with her? Sometimes you have to sacifice to improve. I will have to sacifice my time studying to get a better career and it will be worth it in long run. Any advice you can give me please because it is hard trying to go through college with a kid and not have much family support. I am 32 so that makes school even tougher but quitting or going to a technical school isn't something I'm going do because I got a loan and owe a 2,200.00 loan now and will have to start paying it back if I quit school. I don't think Technical schools have loans. Well, Thanks for any advice.

Just curious about salaries of nurses wonder why ya'll don't get paid more!
This is my last message for a while but I was researching pay for nurses because I wonder if a RN in emergency, ICU and CCU made more then a regular RN nurses and this is our pay for Georiga. Why would they ask if I have kids????
I would ask them if they had kids. LOL! kidding! I think asking if you have kids is illegal. I'm surprised someone hasn't made court case out of it because it is discrimination or is it prejudge ? It would be bad if you do not get accepted because you have kids. I wish you the best!

How far as too far to drive to college? how far would you drive ?
I want to go to this college so bad and I can't move there because I have a family so moving is not an option for me.I use mapquest to map directions to a college. The drive is 74.82 miles and an hour twenty nine minutes to the college so I will be on the road three hours everyday. I thought it is a waste of my time if I go college and I'm too tired to study when I get home. The only solution I can find is having all my classes on two days. What do ya'll think? I appreciate your time and advice.

require to take SAT if you're nontraditional studnet?
Thank you all for your positive advice because it encourages me to Go For What I want No Matter What! husker-nurse I appreciate your advice. It does seem like the advisors try to discourage you and attempts to block your path so you won't go into nursing. I don't understgand why they would do it but it does seem that way. I'm feeling good today I finished two classes and I got a 96.8 average in computer class. It is a easy class. I'm thinking about transfer to a 4 year college and take my ACT Because they say ACT is a easier test. Why Not transfer If I'm going take all the test as a 4 year college. Thank you for your positive advice!

require to take SAT if you're nontraditional studnet?
ayndim and traumaRUs thank you for you positive feed back. I'm not complaining just seems weird that I had to take the compass and now got to take the SAT. My college has career programs and transfer programs. We have 13 career programs. I thought I would be able to do any of the Career programs with out taking the SAT. I don't have a problems taking the SAT. It's just hard to take a full load and study for the SAT too. RoxyBen I know Nursing takes more than elementary classes. DUH. I am just saying that I did great in math to be going back to college after being out of school for ten years. If I needed to take the SAT to do the school's career programs then the school should make everyone take the SAT to get into the school instead of making non traditional students take compass then take SAT. The college's rule is to take compass if you don't pass the math you got to take elementary algebra then take the compass again and pass it. If you don't pass the compass they will kick you out of college and can't go to any public college for three years.

require to take SAT if you're nontraditional studnet?
I am 32 and started my prerequsite for nursing. I am attending a community college. College has been tough. I took the compass to get into college and now they say I got to take the SAT to get into nursing. Do non traditional students required to take the SAT to get their ASN? I don't have college credit and I have been out of school for ten years so why would I need to take the SAT Test. I'm starting to feel like I'm wasting my time trying to do nursing because I don't have anyone to help me with my daughter and none of my family cares if I make it through school. Thanks for any help and advice you can give me.
