Not feeling to good about a co-worker
I was reading the forum and I can't help but smile. The situation is very familiar and does actually happen everywhere.:) By nature, we still have our animalistic nature of becoming the predator whilst others become the prey.:chuckle It is only by social stigma and morality that curves such traits. It is your choice however, which role you want to play.:uhoh21: You are the only one who can control the situation. I think the best thing to do is say NO firmly and stand up for it. Look her in the eye and don't waiver.:angryfire Bullies exists everywhere and unfortunately, some people put their weight if they see they can do so without any hassle. Litigation is the last resort.... too much time, too much money and too much stress. You might as well look for a new job. As for your boss?? Imagine him yelping or cowering.... running away with his tail tucked in his beeeeehind. That'll give you a good laugh and will definitely make you feel better.:rotfl: :balloons: An eye for an eye...a tooth for a tooth!!! (B*tchy, yes....but sometimes, someone needs to do the dirty work)

does anyone know about this?(allergies)
I was bitten by a wasp twice and basically had difficulty of breathing and generalized rashes which all happened in 5 to 10 minutes. My reaction is actually a bit less severe to those who reacted in less minutes compared to mine. Anyway, at present, I have my epipen (epinephrine) just in case I go into a severe reaction. :) The best way to learn if you are really allergic to wasps is basically go to your gp and have some bloods taken for allergy assays.:imbar This will confirm any allergic reaction you might have for wasp or bee venom. The full blood work up will check on your response to other allergens like yeast, seafoods and other vaso-active amines trigger factors.

the term "animal nurse"
You cannot always expect an immediate YES to all of the demands in our own profession. :) Politicians change, man's perception change and that includes decisions on various issues. ANA might even have a strike if they want to just to protect the "nurse" definition. But hey!! this is a free country and if you have a point and you think it is right, I don't see any obstacle too impossible to overcome!! :imbar Difficulties?? YES but not an excuse to sulk and displace their resentment to other professionals. Perhaps, doing something about it AGAIN will be much more productive.:rotfl:

the term "animal nurse"
Well, all I can say is a huge pffffftttt. Everybody in this forum and other forums for that matter is doing their very best at their own respective fields (No doubt about that!!!) We have our own UNIQUE roles in the nursing and medical field.( That's for sure.... ). The only common factor that we all have is that "WE CARE!!!".:) ALL of US are tending and delivering quality patient care for our respective clients. What saddens me most is the fact that some people need to malign and belittle other professionals to put an emphasis on the issues of their own profession. The only best way to resolve the issues of Vet Techs re: their title and status is to address it to the people who can pass a bill and commence any change at all. ( The last time I checked....human nurses are not one of them:p ) The world is too big for all of us to have our own mark on it. Besides.....this issue is basically not worth our while. WHY???? Both profession is far far way different in a million ways. There is no focal connection or mode of comparison. :imbar Let's just all do our own thing in our own profession and make the world a little bit better to live in. Have a nice day all!!!!

Okay hands up who knew...
Yep!!:stone It is true and a real pain, alright....:imbar According to the Directive 92/27/EEC, names of medical substances will be changed and will be patterned with the equivalent names approved by the Recommended International Non-proprietary Names(rINN) for medical substances. There are a couple of medicines(let's say less than 250 drugs) which will be affected by the directive. This is because the British Approved Names (BAN) is almost identical to rINN. The only exception to the said directive is adrenaline and noradrenaline. The list of drugs will be available in the website as typed below; www.mhra.gov.uk Just in case you need a list of the medicines but cannot access the website, just e-mail me and i'll try to e-mail you a copy.:) NOTE: Don't raise your hands for me. I am just like a cat that got killed by curiosity. Not a good news, alright!!:angryfire

Ever have a major crush on a doctor
I never had any crush on any doctor anywhere at anytime for the record:) . It is not that I am frigid or something but basically they are not my cup of tea. ( I really don't want to elaborate on that:imbar ....) Anyway, most of the people I know who have crushes on doctors are based on the fact that these doctors are considerate, a pure gentleman and sees a nurse as an individual and a member of the team rather than a handy all around assistant. Physical looks is also an initial factor for attraction but not a major X factor.

Is that what I am worth??
Hello once again..:) I don't have anything against my travel agency as their service since I was with them was impecable. However, my motive for this inquiry was based on my desire to strengthen my collective bargaining skills. I want to ensure that I am receiving what is due to me.:) I have already done researches and rang the facility as well to see what they really offer. On the other hand, I am asking for your opinion as well on the matter as I know your adeptness with re: the ins and out of travel and agency work. My query has only been recently initiated because my agency did not tell me where is my potential facility assignment. I just learned all about it when they were arranging the interview. Of course, I have browsed through their website, but sometimes things are not what it seem. I value nurses' opinion who have more experience than I have and those who worked with them. I haven't accepted anything yet since I am trying to dig in as much information as possible.:rotfl: And I thank you for the information and effort. Happy easter!!!

My visa screen is being arranged by my travel agency but I have received the NVC notification that my application was already received. As for the accomodation, they will looking for the place where I could stay, depending on my specifications, but I am going to pay for it. The usual dental(diagnostic and preventive only), medical and professional liability will be covered. I will be working in Oakland, California but my pay will be $28/hour. My job experience will be 6 years once I start work with them. Thanks for the inputs.

Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia a.k.a. muscle fibre pain as the term denotes is a symptom. If accompanied by other associated clinical complaints or symptoms, it becomes a syndrome with unkown origin(which might perhaps explain why at present it is becoming a diagnosis by itself). Unfortunately, some doctors are basically abusing and misusing the term. If a patient comes in with vague or actual symptoms(similar to fibromyalgia, of course) but doesn't points out a definitive diagnosis, the easiest thing to do is find a scape goat and basically diagnose it as such. This then makes fibromyalgia a "term basket". It saves them time to do loads of investigations and the term, as it sounds, is basically "posh":coollook: and passes our medical lingo. However, I do not totally agree that we are all suffering from fibromyalgia due to stress, lack of rest/ sleep and hard work:imbar (???!!??). Pain, being a subjective complaint, is exclusively felt by patients and as healthcare giver our main role is to ackowledge it as such and treat it accordingly. Having said that, most patients who come in because of such clinical sypmtoms usually carry an underlying root cause. If we have an indepth investigation of the root cause, fibromyalgia will not exist at all as a common diagnosis. Fibromyalgia is fibromyalgia until all diagnostics has been done and only points out to it. Unless, we go back to basics and do a full assessment of patients (history plus a wholistic approach), it won't be long before everyone is out of work because of it. Social services will go bankrupt, by then. (Tough!!!) The focus however is that patients will be misdiagnosed and will be treated by symptoms (palliative care, anyone????!!!???). It is like giving an injection to your head because you have a headache. :imbar Pfffft!!! NOTE: This is just a product of my little brain cells working overtime. No offense meant. Happy Easter, everyone!!!!!

Racism still living freely in elderly...
I have my own share of experiences with regards to racism at patient care setting. Unfortunately, I could also agree that most of them are from elderly patients specially the confused ones. However, I do not agree that we need to bite our tongue and basically be tight lipped when we encounter such situations. We are also humans and not some kind of super heroes who can take on anything specially emotional upsets. We handle lives in our hands and safety wise, a stressful environment is the least thing we need. Demoralization is the worse thing that can happen to any healthcare giver. And for the record, we are living on the 20th and not the 18th century. I am not suggesting an all out tirade and verbal attack on the patient as well. A diplomatic and polite matter of fact will work better. A patient also needs to understand that as a person in need of care, he or she needs to respect caregivers regardless of race. Clinical setting has been gradually evolving and race is not to be excluded from it. There are numerous races giving their services healthcare wise. I think this fact needs to be explained to patients. The saying that an "old dog cannot be taught new tricks" is a fallacy. Life is a learning process by itself. I have worked in a clinical setting with a "Zero Tolerance Policy" with respect to abuse and disrespect to healthcare givers. And so far, this policy is being respected by our elderly patients. As for my other patients, after talking to them, they have been very polite and sensitive with regards to their actions and words. Afterall, respect begets respect.:) NOTE: Confused patient is another matter though.:chuckle However, not all of the elderly patients are cognitively impaired.

Is that what I am worth??
Dear Suzanne:rotfl: I have learned thru my browsing that you are adept in agency nursing.:) I am a foreign nurse and basically got a limited idea of what a nurse petitioned by a travel agency to work in the U.S.A. is entitled to as per benefits, pay and other et als. My target relocation area is Oakland , California. Your input re: the matter will be deeply appreciated. Thank you!!! Have a nice day. Hope to hear from you..

Is that what I am worth??
Thank you for the replies. It has been very helpful and certainly let me stop and really...really..think about what I really want to be satisfied, jobwise.:rotfl: Currently, I would say I am lost and not nearing to any decision. But having said that, I am also gathering loads and loads of facts before I sign my name in.
