Preparing for TEAS exam after 15 years out of school! Any suggestions?
It is true the study manuals through ATI aren't exactly like the real test, but they are pretty close. For example if the TEAS study manual has a percentage problem you should know how to solve it in all directions. I noticed the real test had similar questions just in different order. I had identified my weak spots such as fraction multiplication for example and studied every possible problem that could be asked. I had to find them on the internet because no manual will give you every problem which could arise. It will take a lot of work to ace the TEAS but it is possible. I will tell you that you cannot study for the physical and chemical science portion. You either know it from previous coursework or you don't. It will take a lot of studying to learn these subjects if you have no knowledge. I have a BS in biology so it came easy to me. I have had gen chem I and II, organic chem I and II, biochem, physics I and II. I can tell you that they asked questions I learned from gen chem I and physics. I did score a 96 percent overall. Good Luck!!!

How long do you have to wait to retake the Teas?
The best study manuals you can buy are from the same people who make the test. You can go to the ATI website and buy study manuals. You can also have them rushed if needed. I bought mine from ATI and scored a 96 percent on my TEAS test. I went through the manual in a few days and worked on any weak points I encountered. I also have a bachelor's degree in biology and needed to brush up on my math. Although I found I needed to brush up on my punctuation and sentence structure as well. Never been my strong point. Make sure you buy the right version manual. Call the school first. Good Luck!

Am i smart enough??
You can get a practice book from the TEAS website. Make sure you know what version to buy. You will have to ask your college which version they use. It is very similar to the real test. It will also give you solutions to the questions. I used it to and scored a 96 percent on my TEAS. It helped me brush up on a few things. You are making the best decision to do the LPN program and not the MA. You have more opportunities with the LPN degree. Not to mention you can bridge from an LPN to RN. It will also give you some insight on the nursing profession without putting too much time into the prerequisites it takes to get into an ASN or BSN program. My wife is a MA and she wishes she would have done the LPN. Good luck!

WOW!!! I just saw how much first semester books cost!!!
I looked through your book list. I counted at least 6 books that you will use through your whole student nursing career. The courses to come will not cost as much or nothing at all. For example if you take psych. you may need to buy only the psych. book.

Any other pre-nursing students over 45?
I applaud all of those over 40 who are going into the nursing profession. I am a 35 year old male who is re-starting my BSN. I started it when I was 27 but had to drop due to job conflict. There were quite a few "over 40" and even "over 50" nursing students in my classes even in 2002. So it really isn't only because the economy has declined. They were the students that were able to cope with the demand of clinicals. I even met a man who was 70 and preparing for med school. How great is that! Good luck to you all!

Celebrate Your Fall 2010 Acceptances Here!!!
I didn't realize it was going to be so difficult to get into nursing school again. I applied to Maryville for the BSN back in 2003. I walked in and applied. The same day I was signed up for classes and they gave me a 50% scholarship. I dropped the classes due to job restrictions with my schedule at the time. I applied last month to four other schools and just got my acceptance letter to all four BSN programs. I chose the one 2 miles from my house. Clinicals are about 1/2 mile away. I love it!!! Good luck to all of you who are still waiting for your letters. Don't give up!!
