  1. Thanks Eve. I remembered the wrong month haha. October is even better for me:)
  2. Thank you as always RN oz1 :redbeathe I have looked at their site already. I am working on my immigration papers through another route via my spouse (my wishful thinking projects being there in 6-9 months) and I am thinking of enrolling in ARNTP when I get my PR. This will hopefully mean a cheaper tuition for me and not having the problem of going home after the class ends to wait for an offer. I am thinking of submitting my application to ARNTP at the same time so that once I get my PR I can enroll there immediately. Or should I wait for my PR? Any thoughts from anyone here will help. Thanks!
  3. I am not a pediatric nurse too. But I have had a similar experience with my son. My son was not too keen on the breast feeding thing at the start and he was given a supplemental feeding. I tried several times but my son wouldn't latch. My nurse had me express my milk and put it in a small bottle with a small nipple which was supplied by the NICU. It totally worked. Breast milk in a bottle. A combi of both.
  4. Good you're doing it on your own! From what I remember, you get your RLE from the school and that is what you send. I also had 2 week rotations. Your school should have a copy of that. Yes, to my knowledge, being a clinical instructor is considered nursing experience.
  5. Hey Eve, welcome to the thread! Im thinking of doing the ARNTP. But probably August. Did you have to get AHPRA approval? I emailed them but they haven't replied. I just resent my email a few minutes ago.
  6. Hey Cioman! Yup, I emailed them right after I posted my inquiry here if anyone tried ARNTP. They have not responded though:confused: Ill probably try calling them.
  7. Has anyone applied to this one? Please share:)
  8. Happy new year everyone!!!! W-O-W because this thread is still alive! I see cioman is already in Australia! After all this time, i haven't passed my application. I printed it out, answered it, did my CV and that was it. Had too many things to do these past couple of months. I almost forgot my username here and had to try a few to post again hihihi Congrats to everyone that has made it through. My new year's resolution is to stick to my plan of going there. Good luck to everyone else :)
  9. AHPRA doesn't have a specific format, but they have specific entries there that need to be included in the one you make. I remember seeing that from their site, although I suggest you check again. Wow, this new thread is 10 pages long already. Cioman, thanks for all the info:)
  10. I see the world in 10-20-50 years from now to be colorless and borderless. And I don't mean thru a security standpoint. Worldwide immigration and increasing acceptance of multi-cultural-ity (pardon my english) will change the face of nations. Never thought to generalize my perception of Americans, otherwise I would have to eat my words:)
  11. :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya: :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya: i am not as angry as may i sound to you. maybe i should put peace signs or hearts or smiley faces so you won't exaggerate my emotions and overlook the details i am pointing out. but i am serious when i say we should stop labeling groups of people or questioning one's credentials accepted by your laws, grossly out of topic. you should also read the posts others have written here, including yours, that might sound angry to others and not to you. emotional responses to language is unique to every person. and i, as an educated registered nurse, give my apologies to those that found my post too strong. it was my intention to point out what i found seriously inappropriate and malicious. i will not resort to personal attacks towards you, despite the unkind insinuations masked under your perception of constructive criticism. i will however tell you that personal attacks here are unnecessary and unwelcome in this forum. :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya: :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya: :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya: :redbeathe:redpinkhe:loveya:
  12. If you've made up your mind, just make sure you research well about the school you intend to go to. There's a thread in the news section of this forum where a school in California had to be closed for no accreditation. Good luck!
  13. But I take great offense on labeling Filipinos as the main culprits in this thread. Sure.... you don't talk about every Filipina in the history of Asia..... right.... My english is probably so bad that I misunderstood posts that kept mentioning Filipinos this and that. Why don't we all start threads about each races traits and let's see how long the moderators will keep that open. It even goes further by repeatedly questioning the education and competence of a United States Registered Nurse who happened to be Filipino right? Not only are they rude, they are also educationally inferior? If one's performance is a problem, wherever they came from, they should not practice. If one's credentials are a problem to you by all means file a complaint in your facility, or what the heck, go to your BON and tell them an inferior race is practicing in your country. Oh and I love that we should all beware of the foreign speaking nurse who loves volunteering for overtime but doesn't do community service. I thought that the general consensus here in All Nurses was that most hated overtime and that most do not answer calls from work after work to make sure they don't get called in. I thought most nurses are so overworked that you don't have time for a quick lunch break, but you declare no community service makes one less of a contributing member of the American society. The mention of specific races here shouldn't have been allowed in the first place. The original OP just mentioned an incident until people, including the OP, started mentioning specific languages. This breeds animosity and racial profiling. And it's F-I-L-I-pino, not Phillipino.
  14. I do not condone being left alone on a shift by a group of nurses taking the same break. I do believe it is rude and inconsiderate to do so. I just wonder how they can all take the same break without no one noticing this unsafe practice. Do your part by reaching out. If you still don't feel welcome, then it's their loss. I would also talk with my NM about being left behind to tend to all those patients, hopefully s/he is not part of that group.
  15. haha, couldn't resist looking at "her" profile :)
  16. Samchii, apply via the overseas nurses practitioner application which you'll see on their website. They will most likely tell you to take the BP. BP providers need the go signal from AHPRA before you take their course. Those that passed, hear us (as if in prayer haha) Post naman tips on what to study before taking the bp. Happy sunday everyone!
  17. congratulations to wifey blinq:yelclap: maybe she can share with us what is actually done in a BP. you mentioned case studies already. If she can share some more through you that would be great! Also keep us posted on the job hunt :)
  18. I'd prefer the color coded scrubs. Like nurses wear one color, doctors, therapists and pharmacists have their own too. But if there's no such thing, if nurses wanted to wear the all-white again, I can't argue if it's their choice and not imposed by the admin. Used them in nursing school. And where I'm at, most hospitals still use them. What? you have to wear a white dress all day while you have to bend and move around too? How can you not get dirty while you empty a catheter bag or a lady with bowel obstruction vomits bile? Made sure I wouldn't work in place that uses them. What's with the cap? Makes everyone know we're the person to boss around. NOOO way will I ever wear them again:down:
  19. I thought nursing in Australia is 3 years? Maybe I got that one wrong. Thanks for saying so. Nursing here is 4 years. First year with general education subjects as required by law. Summer of the freshman year until graduation are the major subjects. At least that's how it is where I went. As far as I know you can't include high school with nursing. Never heard this one here. I hope you heard wrong. I'm a stickler for rules. If people don't deserve to be where they are, they should be sent back. I wouldn't want to work with people that cheat their way too. Yeah, I wish our nursing board and education department were more strict. Heard of numerous schools I wish were shut down too. Just remember, not everyone came from there. With Australia's tightened requirements, you might well be on the way to weed out the bad and get the immigrants you deserve. Also, Filipino is with a FILI :)
  20. To go to a Philippine university you must pass that university's entrance exam, which may include IQ, english, math and science tests. University exams are pretty major here too, not just there in Australia, especially if you want to get into the best schools. Unfortunately no one bothers to translate all the subjects to the local dialect. In my university, they started a biology pilot class in Filipino, and it was unsuccessful, no one wanted to take it. All subjects in high school are in Filipino, except for the Filipino language class and social studies. I did 4 years of high school in one of the top high schools in the country and I never thought of my education as inferior. I often wondered why other countries had theirs longer. Maybe the curiosity is for both sides. Otherwise if it were not adequate, Filipinos wouldn't get into the bigger, more famous universities like Harvard or Princeton. All this hullabaloo for inadequate high school years will end once the government implements its planned 12 year schooling, which may be implemented because they too believe it is inadequate for the regular pinoy. I have noticed that Filipinos have an easier time with written english than conversational english. You can even see that based on their ielts. Most use a combination of English and their local dialect in conversations. Others just use english in school or work. Many are well versed in english more than the predominant Filipino language. Many grow up in an English speaking household. The Philippines has 7000 dialects. On order for us to understand each other, english is the easiest language to use. BTW, I do believe a language test is necessary to get employment in another country.
  21. Congrats to everyone that are on their way to the BP:w00t: I hope you guys keep coming back here to this forum after you've successfully finished the BP and landed a job. We need all the inputs we can get:redbeathe
  22. Doza replied to LouisVRN's topic in General Nursing
I will never attempt any major treatment to any family member, for my sake and theirs :)
  23. Hi Tamie. I think educational experience is different from working experience which some employers are now looking for. BTW, you will also have to take an English test, which you can take in the US. There's another thread here in the Int'l forum regarding Australian application, its about 600 pages long already but it talks a lot about the application process. You might want to check it out. Hope it all works out for you :)
  24. Yes the patient has the right to refuse treatment. The AMA forms will back us up in case they absolutely refuse. Sometimes it is way convenient for us to just say sign it and in our minds we say 'good luck with that' or 'let's see how well you can do without following treatment' *evil laugh* What are we there for if not to give them the best treatment? NPO might seem to trivial especially for the lay person. If they get up and get a drink themselves, it's out of our control, esp when it's from a toilet eyw. But no way should we help them out and give them that drink. Again it's a case to case basis.
  25. loving the Navy blue scrubs! OP, your boredom has generated a 3 page reply already :)
