Excelsior students in Mid-Michigan
Hi, I am in Metro Detroit. Just getting started, how are you in the program?

pharm question
I have never heard of that, I could never work somewhere that my Nursing Judgement wasn't valued. At my Hospital we hold meds all the time and document our justifications. It has never been an issue.

Starting with Excelsior in 2011
Hello Everyone, I am just beginning also. I am scheduled for H&S in Feb. Having a time getting through the material. So I wouldn't procrastinate I have enrolled so that I can place myself on a time line. Hey Tony...I wish my VAMC used the VANEEP. They have stopped participating in the program. Study Plan: I don't do well with "others" notes, I am doing the EC study guide, and I purchased used recommended text books. I have also found a few nursing lectures online. I have stayed away from any publishing companies. It would be nice to learn how others are studying for the exams? Glad to be doing this FINALLY, everytime I considered EC I would talk myself out of it.....this time....I just signed up and stopped trying analyze every little detail....and here I am. :) I look forward to studying with you all....Good luck.

Changing RN degree to something else?? Need advice
I think it would take much more effort to change to something new. I believe you should try to.... regroup, give yourself some time and assess your weakness and strengths and go from there. I realize it is a challenge, but throwing away all your hard work shouldn't be an option. You can do this...it may take a little longer...but you are almost there. Take a step back and think about it, and most of all, only get out of nursing if you have decided this is not what you want to do with your life. You have come so far, don't give up. Good Luck on your decision.

Health Safety Exam
Hi, that is great.:yeah:How did you approach your studying? I am scheduled to take Health Safety....and feel like I am running around in circles. I am kinda just jumping back and forth with the study guide from EC. using just recommended text. (older versions) and I did practice test A, only made a 60%. I feel really unorganized, I am not sure I am following the study guide correctly. or better yet not sure how to use it. Thanks

Any Updates On Excelsior and Virginia
Hi Everyone, Well hubby and I are considering moving to VA in a few yrs. If I become Licensed in Michigan, work a few yrs will I be able to obtain VA Licensing by endorsement? I am hoping to complete EC from start to finish in 18 months or so. What does the board say regarding endorsement. Thanks

Study plan - Need your help
How should I study for my first exam. 1. I have the content guide. Should I purchase a Fundamental Nursing text or NCLEX Book? if so may I purchase older editions to say money? Are the guides on ebay useful? which seller? Many of them look like the old NC1, not sure. any suggestions? how did you begin your journey? I have been spending the last 2 weeks reading and reading all EC stuff, getting my application together and trying to piece together how this all works. I am now feeling like a fish out of water

Got my Unofficial review and uggghhh
Thanks, Ok did it, ready to get this ball rolling. I guess I will looking at the least 3 -4weeks...I have over 60 generals, but of course I have no literature or info lit. Can Ethics work for your Humanities requirement? Actually I am feeling less anxiety then I did when trying to make my decision to attend EC. I realize now it was nothing but fear that has held me back. I did app online, mailed off my Id, and license. and made all the requests for my previous school transcripts - that was the only hastle but it done. I think the requirements are still better than traditional, trying to figure out if I should take the A&P class at community or do study for EC exam? What do you think?

Excelsior accepted by VA facilities?
Hi, I work for the VA and yes if you work for the Federal Goverment : Veteran Affairs, you can have a license from any state and work. I work in MI but my LPN license is from another state. Here is some info from USAJOBS.COM For an Illinois position RN's are classified as Nurse I, II or III EC is accepted and is accredited. Good Luck. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: All individuals applying under this announcement must meet basic qualification standards for appointment as contained in VA Handbook 5005, Part 2, Appendix G6. This standard is available in the Human Resources Liaison Office for review. Candidates who meet the appropriate requirements contained in the standard will be considered.Physical Requirements: Must meet physical requirements and successfully pass physical examination. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). wow, Tasha seems like you are keeping up with well structured schedule, that is great. Once I receive my review, I will sit down and make a schedule too. How many questions should we expect to see on a EC exam?

Are there any Michigan EC student here?
Hi, I am just getting started and trying to make contact with anyone in MI.

Be very Careful about considering Excelsior's Online ADN program...
My 2 Cents: It is so scary to hear negative comments after just deciding to pursue my RN through EC. These type of statements scared me away for too long. What I have learned reading all the posts over the years, Is that EC may not be for everyone but.... many, many are successful. And I can do this. I have worked along RN's for 12 yrs. I know what they do, what they don't do and should, I have trained new RN's. Helped, supported and encouraged them in their duties, don't tell me I am not capable of learning just because I am not in a classroom setting or clinical rotation. I am working on the floor everyday, while the same nurse that I trained sits at the desk, while the real bedside work is left to the LPN. Most important I cannot let anything stop me for pursuing my dream, especially fear. EC was designed for LPN's just like me, hard working full-time Nurses, Students, Mothers and Wives trying to better themselves and advance in their careers. And no one has the right to crush our hopes.

A&P Prep
Thanks so much, you guys are awesome. I am going to skip MT and save the money for my first EC exam. I want to start studying for HS, meanwhile I will take the A&P class at a community college, the rest of will be EC. I am waiting on my credit eval. How do I study for HS, I have no books yet...I ran off the exam content from ec website, Should I purchase the books they suggest and go from there? I am excited to actually start studying nursing instead of all that crap I have been taking at my university.

Study group for excelsior
Hi, I don't live in NY but would love to network with those just starting too. I am going to start with Health Saftey also. Mean while I will be taking A&P at the community college...everything else will be EC. I have a lot of gen ed credit so I am just waiting for the eval. I've been in school, on and off for 8 yrs and still no RN. I have been so scared to start EC...been pondering over this for the last 5 yrs. I realized I am just wasting time so I am finally going to just do it. I am not sure how to start studying any advice? I have no books yet I am still shopping around, I need some direction.

A&P Prep
Do you think it is a waste of time to take med-term course as prep for A&P. My A&P is 12 yrs old...so it's been a while, but I don't want to waste any money. I am looking through the book, I know everything in the first 4 chapter so far. haven't really learned anything new, except some origins of root names. I am already registered but I am thinking....do I really need this, when it is a course that is not required? I still have time to get out of the class. I could use this money elsewhere.

Excelsior in unrecognized state?
I also work for the Governement (VA) . We are not under any state guidelines....only federal.....they only require that you hold a license in any US territory and that you are a graduate of an approved nursing program. You don't even have to obtain licenses from one state to another. You can move all over the country with the same license. I am currently at my second hospital station since I was hired in, by another state.
