New grad RN @ level 1 trauma Children's Hospital in Texas. (2012) Starting Pay: $24.75 base + $4 diff for nights + $6 diff for weekends

Yeah about 6-8. They were pretty straight forward. They asked why you want to work there, most difficult decision you've ever had to make, tell me about a time... etc. and they make notes and score you right in front of you so it's kind of intimidating. I actually decided to go work at Children's instead but it was a tough decision!

I interviewed for the NICU last year during this time.... and t here were 6 of us. They divided us into two groups. My group interviewed with staff nurses first. They asked us three questions but like went down the row one by one to see what your answer was to each. Then the groups switched and we went and interviewed with like the educator and other mgmt. Then we got a tour of the unit. They said they had one more group to interview & they called with the offer at the end of the week.

All contact was by phone. Both for the interviews and the offer. First, you have an HR interview and then you meet with the unit's manager & educator. They're the same questions that everyone asks. Behavioral, what would you do in this situation, and then when you meet with the manager, they more want to know why you want to work in their area, what you'll bring to the team, etc. I interviewed about a month after I applied, then another month to get the offer. It's not a fast process!

I graduated in May 2012, and didn't start my job until January 2013. I went on MANY interviews (both in DFW & further (SA, Temple, AUstin)). I know how it can feel, and you really just have to keep applying and be in CONSTANT contact with the HR reps.

Probably anywhere from $22-25/hr. That's what I was told last year during interviews when I was a new grad.

@judithj29 I never heard anything back after the interview... even though they said they would call either way. So who knows.

Our school uses them too, they're a little stiff and WAY expensive. But the school insists they will hold up... So far so good.

I prefer solids. But there are those who wear prints too! -MedSurg Floor

Try the Davis' Success Series for MedSurg. It gives you the rationales after you take the test. It's a lifesaver!

I wish I had a dog, but I feel like I don't have enough time between classes and clinical hours to give as much attention as a pet needs! But I love seeing my friend's dogs!!!

I swear by the Prentice Hall Medical Surgical Reviews & Rationales (2nd ed) and then the Davis' Success Series is helpful its just a book full of questions with the rationales! Both can be found online!
