  1. I plan on getting married in June in between semesters. I don't have any plans really set yet. However, we are going somewhere to elope and honeymoon at the same time so there isn't much planning involved.
  2. I :redbeathe this thread! Seriously. I started reading these forums about a year ago and I just started Nursing school two weeks ago. It won't be easy but definitely more manageable than other students on here were making it out to be. Nursing school is NOT my life. I will still be able to catch my favorite tv shows, and watch football on Sundays. I even had time to play a video game for an hour the other day! The only thing different that I'm still struggling with a bit is the reading. I could always skip on the readings in my pre-reqs because tests were based on lectures. I only read the textbook if I was having problems understanding a topic. I'm not used to all this reading but I know I can manage.
  3. Just a friendly word of advice, it's probably better that you let this thread go. :) People are going to keep jumping down your throat I think. Only YOU know what your situation is. I know how hard it is to get a job. I put in over 200 applications over the summer and did not get one call back. I just don't want to work right now so I stopped looking. I know not everyone can do that though. So yeah, like I said closeing the thread is a good idea.
  4. I'm in the same boat as you. Except that I don't even have my license due to anxiety issues and slight PTSD related to driving. I am not sure how this is going to work either. I mean, I take public transit and I know how to get around. I can get to every major hospital by public transit just not any other smaller sites. It does suck. I've already talked to my clinical instructors and adviser. They are working with me and I'm assigned to close hospitals. However, it's pretty much been said that I have to have my license by my senior year. I've been trying but it's very difficult and I have to do this one step at a time. It's funny how when you mention that you don't have a car, everyone else assumes that you're just lazy. Has anyone tried to find a job lately? I couldn't even get a crappy retail job this summer and I have over 8 years experience in it!
  5. I stated in a previous comment that I haven't played that game in years. It's just one that everyone knows so I used that as an example. I'm mingling in FF14 at the moment.
  6. I have a stable set and they're definitely not from Second Life. I'm not big into that either. Why waste time talking to people in a virtual world if you can't destroy enemies and level up at the same time?
  7. Believe me, it's much easier than arguing with him. He's never had to do chores, ever. I'm glad that we're not planning on having any kids. It's much easier to clean up after us and two cats. I have a system. I can handle it. :)
  8. I don't get it either. :/ I have no problem taking care of the household when I couldn't find a job. Nursing school is like a full time job but because I'm not bringing home any income, I still have to clean and such.
  9. My fiance is the same way. Except I don't have kids to deal with. I've pretty much accepted that I will still be doing all the chores and cooking. He also insists that I go to bed the same time as him because he can't sleep without me there. And he really likes our TV and movie time which probably will be cut short once I start school on Monday. I'm going to have a hard time telling him that I can't hang out with him because then he gets all sad.
  10. You've seen quite a bit of me these last few weeks. Sorry about that! I do really like the apartment I live in (it's cheap!). However, we have one washer and dryer to share between all the other tenants. There are 8 other apartments. I've lived here for four years so even though there is no sign up sheet, everyone pretty much knows that I do my laundry on Friday or Saturday every week and I never get bothered about it. I am worried about washing scrubs. I currently have two pair and they are dark navy blue. Does anyone else have to deal with laundromats or public laundry facilities? I can't use bleach with my scrubs obviously. I don't want to expose everyone else to germs that I bring home from clinical. How often do you wash your scrubs? I would like to keep my laundry day to Friday or Saturday. However, I can sneak a load in in the middle of the week if I have too. Also, do you have to wash them separately? Or can you throw them in with other darks? Should I suck it up and spend the extra 75 cents to run some bleach through the washer after I'm done? Or is running a load of towels on hot (which I always do) good enough? I do plan on buying a 3rd pair of scrubs eventually so that I won't have to do laundry as often. But at $42 a set...I can't do that right now. LOL
  11. I am lucky in the fact that when I started college in 2004 (I changed majors a few times), I had a massive overstock of school supplies. I am not quite sure how that happened, I think I have my buy in bulk mother to thank for that. However, the only school supplies I've had to buy over my college years is binders because they do tend to fall apart. The only school supplies I bought this year in particular was white out, and a huge desk calendar. I already had everything else (including a planner!). And the fiance keeps accidentally bringing home pens from work so we have a whole drawer full. So far, I've bought my scrubs, watch, scissors, stethoscope, BP cuff, penlight, lab coat, polo shirt. I still need khaki pants (goes with the polo for the community outfit), white undershirts, and white sneakers. I have most of my books. I have two more coming from amazon, and I have to pick up one more from the bookstore. I'm picking up my clinical bag and badge today. As far as needed electronics go: I already had an ipod touch. I bought a new case and screen protectors to get it ready for clinical. I have yet to buy the apps that are required. I won't buy them until I absolutely need it. I'm really reluctant to spend $175 for a freakin' app! I also already have a good computer (built her myself! ), and a netbook that's less than a year old. I also bought a separate bookshelf for my books and binders. A small 4 foot 3-shelf bookshelf from Target for $20! Can't beat that!
  12. I actually have a "I told ya so" dance that I perform quite regularly. He'll learn real quick starting Monday when classes start I think. We're going to have one last talk this weekend. We need to get some things straightened out before nursing school stress makes everything worse. I know he's a little resentful because I'm not pulling in any income and I won't be for a while. I have to convince him to look at the big picture and think of the future when I become an RN.
  13. Update on this: He is still not really understanding the whole process here. I've sat him down and explained it. I showed him my schedule which is pretty much 8-5pm everyday (except for Friday) and all he can say is that it's "a baby schedule". That doesn't even include study or reading time. At this point, I know that I have to learn to let things go as far as cleaning goes. I usually like to keep up with it a little every day and do the major cleaning (dusting, vacuuming) on Fridays. I can still have my cleaning day be Friday however, it will be a week's worth of a mess and not something I've kept up with. I know that I'm not going to get any help with the chores. I'm not even going to start those battles, it's not worth it. I know we are going to fight, he can stand a little bit of uncleanliness, however, I know that once the dishes pile up or he has no pants to wear to work he is going to start complaining. I can't change him at this point. His mother was one of those that did EVERYTHING for him. And when I met him his apartment was disgusting. He never cleaned it and only washed the dishes that he going to use at that moment. (He even took his laundry back home to mom who would gladly do it for him. UGH). I grew up in a household where I was treated like Cinderella (no joke), I was always cleaning up after me and my brothers. So yeah. I'm going to settle my OCD self down and let the apartment go every once in a while and hope that the fiance picks up on my stress levels and decides to help out. He does have a good heart, he's just a little dense sometimes. If I hear "But I work all day, I'm tired. What did you do?" one more time. I'm going to lose it. I seriously am.
  14. I tend to do this as well, I've always just dealt with it before. However, I know that nursing school is a completely different ball game! I will switch to the library if distractions at home become too much. Though nothing is better than sitting on a comfy couch in your pjs with a cat on your side and a book in your lap. :redpinkhe
