  1. I didn't take it anywhere else but alos have heard great things about PC as well. The only downfall is that they don't have as many classes avaibale and are on the tradional school semster system. Unlike Rio that has classed whenever. Personally, I would never ever recommend Rio to someone who has one biology background. (I am talking to others who may see this thread at a later date and thinking about going to Rio!) Do not take an online class with Rio unless you are good at biology and have a good understanding for it! It is extremely hard! Look at PC if you need an online class.
  2. Rio Bio 156 is hard...shoot anything Bio at Rio is hard. If I could do it all over again I would have never taken anything there. I still need to repeat this class to get the darn F off my transcripts. This is my only grade under a B. Not even my Anatomy class was as hard as this class. The instructors have no wiggle room when it comes to their grading on exams; with the online class anyway. This is because everyhting is done by the computer and is a department wide set standard grading system which is awful! I carried a high B in this class the entire time but was 3% under the darn requirement on the exams so I failed. OK to answer your question...Do not cram! You really need to understand what you are studying if you don't then chances are good you won't do well. Although the flashcards help do not use them to meorize because on the final exams the questions are twisted around and phorificed differently. You do need to know how to answer all 49 essay topics because you will see some that you haven't seen yet. Really make sue you can give a good application example as this is very important and will so you understand what you are talking about in your essay. If you are running out of time make sure you get this part in! Here is a great site for those (like me) you really need the live lecture that the online course does not provide. I wish I had found this earlier than I did.... http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php Just know you may have to look for your topic as they may not be working the same ch at the same time you are.
  3. I am looking to take Bio 201 online at another community college. I just finished Bio 156 at Rio and hated it. If you have taken Bio at PC or CAC (not sure which school this is but have seen several good posts) can you please PM me with good professors...and ones to avoid?? Can you enroll in these classes at anytime like Rio?
  4. The multiple start dates is a definte plus! Yes, out-of- state fees stink!!! Keep in mind if you do "distance learning" (online only) the fees may be a LITTLE lower. The essays are insane! I do not recommend chem and bio at the same time. Not saying it can not be done; just hard. Best of luck to you!
  5. Thanks...I would seriuosly rethink taking bio 156 at Rio. Check this board out for other comments pretty much every person says the samething! I wish I had done my homework first before enrolling...
  6. Those kind of people drive me nuts! I actually know someone like this who IS a RN! I often wonder how she made it through school...
  7. ok you have a tough decision...here are my thoughts: first i don't know how hard it is to get into school where you are, here in ca it is very hard with long waits. if that is your case i would go with school #1 no questions asked. school #1 $80 a unit is actually very cheap and to get a student loan and pay this back will be nothing! some states are hundreds of $$$ per unit for community colleges. you have already been accepted.. downfall- it is far from your parents... school #2 $80 a unit is actually very cheap and to get a student loan and pay this back will be nothing! some states are hundreds of $$$ per unit for community colleges. it is close to home. not sure what your situation is...not sure is going back home is an option but something to keep in mind in case you need to finically you can still commute to school from here. downfall- if you use the tuition reimbursement you will have to work full-time which will be very hard!!! and you actually don't know if you can get in... school #3 i don't think i would consider unless you go with #2 and something falls through student loans are very easy to get and are paid back over a 7-10 year period with low interest rates which will keep you payments low if you won't be getting too much (which it sounds like you wont). i believe you will be able to get about $9,000 a year ($4,500 in spring and $4,500 in the fall). you just have to maintain 6 units (i think) per semester. and the money does not have to be used on just school...housing (rent) is part of school also if you get my hint. i would not want to be in your shoes right now...best of luck with your decision. i am sorry i can not tell you what to do this is something you will need to weigh out all your pros and cons on yourself. lease....do you have to resign or can you go month to month at the end of your lease?
  8. WOW tough decision...a condensed class of 8 weeks is hard I could not imagine going to 4 weeks. I am guessing that you will be going 4 days a week for several hours each day? Is this an in-person class or online?
  9. OK stupid question...why does your work do tuition reimbursement for school #2 but not #1? If you went to school #2 would you still be able to keep your job? (it sounded like it was further away)
  10. Is this an online class with an online lab? The class I am in requires so many essays it is crazy! There are 5-7 essay questions per Ch. and you will be given 2 random questions per Ch...but you have to know how to answer ALL the questions because they will show up on the midterm and final.
  11. I am not in nursing school yet so I don't have a story to tell....I am already dreading the know-it-alls!
  12. Goodness I still need 7 more posts before anyone can PM me....
  13. I do not know about the 16 week class but you can not work ahead for any reason in the 8 week class. And yo can not take the midterm or final until your last assignment is turned in.
  14. Are these private schools, community colleges or what? What is the cost differance?
  15. I would it if you could send me a copy also...hopefully you are still around! icesk8ermom at yahoo . com Thank you!
  16. There are many out there...studydtack is a good one I recently found flashcarddb.com I like the way they print from this site. Good luck
  17. Hi all I am getting ready to start AP I but hvae not enrolled yet. Anyone have a good recommendation for a good professor at Rio Salado please PM me
  18. i will be taking my final for bio 156 this thursday...aghh!! anyway i really need some recommendations. this school is incredibly hard! i have a student loan with this school and need to take one more class to fulfill my units needed for my loan. i only need a&p 1 and 2 and micro biology before i can apply for the nursing program closer to my home. there are only a few ap 1 and micro biology classes open at the point for me to enroll in which are schedule to start next week. i need to make a decision asap so i can get my books shipped to me before then. this is where i need help.... i do not know anything about any of the professors and would like input as to which professors are good and which are bad. i really hate that this school is so standardized...their program is hard. please pm me if you can give any advice!! also, i would like any suggestions on other colleges that offer distance learning for these courses and are easy to get into...please pm me with any suggestions. thank you!!
