Simply Complicated

Still don't have DB grade and it's Friday. Just got my clinical grade for week 2 today. I lost points for not having enough data to support my resolutions, and needed further development on my implications.

For week 2, does it specify how many references on the indirect project? I read the rule of thumb one direct quote per box, but am not seeing how many total the minimum is?

I'm in. I have procrastinated this week though and haven't done crap for it I'll be cramming for sure.

I thought that I had heard that before about the first year income. While I owe a decent size amount still, I don't think grad school will put me over that. I'm already going to be 36, so I don't want to wait much longer. I've waited due to having kids (I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old). Plus my husband is waiting on me to open his own mechanics garage for me to finish school. Getting my degree where I live will be a decent boost to my income. I'll have a year or so before I start, so hopefully can work on paying some of that down while I work full time. I've been part time for 5 years. Thanks!! This makes me feel a little less freaked out, haha. Looking at rates, it can be easy to want to go with a cheaper school, but I don't want to jeapordize my education to save a few bucks, if it's not that much of a difference.

How much do you think is an "ok" amount to pay in tuition for an NP? How much in student loans is acceptable following grad school? Everything I look at seems so expensive, since my BSN was on the lower end tuition wise. I have loans from my associates degree still, so I don't want to bury myself with some massive amount of debt that is outside a realistic amount for an NP. It's PMHNP if that matters.

Yes, simply to make it take effect faster. Because it was being given 3 hours late. I asked her to give a pill that I forgot to give, because I was already an hour over and still had charting to get done. She refused and said she would give it when she did her HS medications. I said it couldn't be given then, it was ordered specifically for that time, because the doc wanted it to have time to take effect before bedtime. Her response was to "just cut it open to make it immediate release". When I said no, I wasn't going to do something like that, she told me "We do it all the time". While continuing to refuse to help me out. Instead she stood there doing nothing while I got up and went and gave it. When I called her on it, said I didn't understand why she couldn't just do me a favor and take the 2 minutes to give the med as I asked.. her response was "Because that's the way we do it here" and we can take it up with supervisor. I should have said yes.. sure I will, so we can tell her about your dangerous and illegal practices. Sorry.. I'm still fuming over it. Just to clarify, I gave the med an hour late (due between 6-7pm), I gave it at 8:10. Had I not given it and told her to just do it with HS meds, which was the only way she would do it, it would have been 3 hours late)

Great thanks. I wasn't going to put it on my app, because for one, I don't really want them calling them, plus it seems pointless to use a job I've been at a week. I have plenty of previous employment. I was at my previous job for 3 1/2 years. I'm also going back to a hospital, this is more of a community type job. It's technically 4 12's the one week, because of the Sun-Mon scheduling. But it's literally work 2, off 2, work 3, off 2, work 2.. lather, rinse, repeat. There is no flexibility at all. If you looked at it in a M-Su way, it's five 12's in 7 days. Which for some people may not be a big deal. But I've been part time for like 6 years. It's a change going back to full time, to throw in mandatory overtime on top of it, which I was not told about.. I'm also driving 50-60 minutes. I'll be applying at the hospitals closer to home.

I'm sure there are topics on this, but I'm just too tired to go searching, so I'm sorry. I recently relocated, and started a new job. I've had a week of corporate orientation, then had 3 days at the facility. I was given 8 hours orientation of my first 12 hour shift, then on my own the last 4 hours. (There's only 1 nurse on a shift). I spent the first part of my morning hearing how much the nurse hated her job, she only had a few days left, and she had quit without a job lined up because it was so bad there. She's a newer nurse and only been there less than a year. The majority of the nurses have quit within the last month. I'm pretty experienced (8 years including travel), so figured I could make it work. Unfortunately, it's just not going to work out. There are a few reasons, but a big one is I was mid led regarding scheduling and what is essentially mandatory overtime. It's 12 hour shifts, and you are required to work 4 days a couple times in the month. That plus the grouping of the set schedule puts me out of the house for 14 hours a day- 5 times in a 7 day period. I have young children at home, I just can't do it. There are safety issues I am also concerned about, and do not really feel comfortable. Things such as the LPN telling me to just cut up an ER pill and give it (oh we do it all the time, charting meds on time when they are knowingly and intentionally given hours late, etc). I need to start putting in apps again. I plan on working until I find a new job, as I can't afford to be out of work. How do I handle this? I figured I wouldn't put it on my application. But what about when I interview? Due to the schedule, and I will need to give 2 weeks notice, it's going to be obvious I'm working when I do get an interview. What do I say? I've never been in this situation before.

I can't function on night shift. I just came off them, and will not do it again. It was horrible. We found someone we are going to try out for now. See how it goes.

I am married, but he works as well. He's off Monday and Tuesdays, possibly Wednesdays. The other days, we don't know yet if he will be days or evenings. He's a kitchen manager for a seasonal restaurant. I'm working on a sitter who will come to our house to baby sit. That is what I'm hoping, is maybe eventually something part time and closer will open. I work psychiatry, so if it's just too hard, I can always go back to a medical job. I can't stay full time more than a year really, because I will be starting grad school, and have no desire to do that and work full time, haha.

Just curious, those of you who have young kids and work 12 hours, how do they handle it? They do ok? I have been part time for 5 years, but we recently relocated states. The only position in my specialty right now is 12 hours full time day shifts, which include a 45 minute drive each way. I'm a little nervous, as this will be a major change for my kids. My son is 9 months, I worked part time nights, and now have been home with him for the past month and half. I will be gone from 6 am until about 8:30 pm once I start this job. I also have a 4 year old. Does being home the other 4 days make it work?

Any updates on the "clinical" component and what the preceptor does?

I'm on the fence. I really get some of it, then others I struggle so bad on. I'm spending a ridiculous amount of time on the work. I'm so stressed, but I'm also taking Evidence with it. Big mistake. I knew I shouldn't take stats with anything else, but it would have really screwed me up not to. Thankfully my husband is a HUGE help with our kids right now.

I don't know how many I missed for mod 1, but quite a few. I thought I had a fairly good understanding. I got 100% on mod 2 though. I'm taking this with Evidence, and I am going to lose my ever loving mind. I have a 3.9 GPA, and I am so afraid I'm going to kill it with these classes.

That quiz was ridiculous. I read the chapters twice, and had so much trouble still. I have no clue how I managed to get 36/40 on that. I wonder how much that will drop my grade when they take away that extra question though, since I got it right. I have been in other classes where they compensated for so many people failing quizzes. So maybe we will get lucky. I didn't reference Ohio's website either. I thought about it after, but whatever. I'll lose the point. I got full credit on the article assignment.

I'm in this too. I am terrified, I'm doing this with Evidence. I hope I can do it, but I have no choice. I figure I will just not leave my house for the next month, lol.

Has anyone got anymore clarification for this? I am supposed to be taking this class in March as well, but we are moving out state end of March/April first. This royally P's me off. I am now going to have to wait to take the class because there is absolutely no way for me to do this.
