Trying to figure out how to balance school & family. ADN or BSN?
my son was 4 when I went into my ADN program. 7 years later, I am re-married with a 9 month old baby. When I was in nursing school, I gave up my family and friends and concentrated wholly on school. I didn't work, school was my full time job. You are going to be a very busy lady with your kids and school. I did my fair share of clinical nursing but now I work for a government contractor doing utilization review. If you plan on staying the clinical route, I would say ADN is fine, but there is a huge job competition outside of the "floor" and pretty much all of them want you to have a BSN. I just lost out on a job I applied for because I don't have a BSN. Good luck to you.

how long it will take to transfer RN license in VA
Hi! Something similar happened to me. I moved from NC to VA but I was working at the VA hospital under my NC license. (You can do that there). When I realized I wanted a different opportunity, I was in a big rush to transfer. Seems like from the time I applied for the transfer all told it took about 3 or 4 weeks. Good luck to you.

Peninsula Information please
I'm a RN in NC thinking about relocating to the peninsula area of hampton roads. (NN, Hampton, Yorktown, Gloucester or Isle of Wight County). not sure exactly which city yet. I was curious if anyone could tell me anything about Williamsburg's state mental health hospital and I'm also interested in the Veterans Hospital in Hampton. I would really appreciate any experiences, input or suggestions. Thanks!

I took the NCLEX-RN today(05/22/06)
from what i have heard, everyone feels like they failed. when my mom took it about 9 yrs ago, she said she had no clue how she did and hers had cut off at 75. i'm sure you did good, but if not, just keep going back. the hard part was passing school and earning the chance to sit for boards, you've done that and you can do this too! :)

Has anyone failed using Saunders?
i hope not because that is what i'm using, too! let us know how it goes. when do you test? i'm still waiting for my att to arrive.

nursing schools in southeast NC
Dear Nuberianne, I do know that last year there was a girl from Richlands who attended LCC and she said the drive wasn't too bad. I will say, though, that it is important to find out where you do clinicals at. If you live in Jacksonville and you have to be at Pitt Memorial at 6:30am, that is kind of a haul. I live in Goldsboro, and it is a haul for me some days. Also if you go to LCC, the summer clinicals are all at Cherry Hospital (Goldsboro) and Pitt (Greenville). This is just some food for thought as I think most colleges go different places and I know myself personally am not an easily aroused person in the early morning. Also I don't know about the other schools, but at LCC you must have your application with 3 reference letters, essay and transcripts in around December or January. James Sprunt I don't think requires reference letters, but do require transcripts (naturally) and an essay as well. Also for Sprunt I KNOW you have to take a standardized test (NET?) in order to be considered, and I am pretty sure their deadline is late November or early December. Good luck and keep us posted on where you go! Kbella126 :)

nursing schools in southeast NC
Hey there. You didn't mention where you are living, or whether or not you would be willing to relocate to attend one of these schools. They are all very far apart. I am currently a senior in the ADN program at Lenoir Community College. I would HIGHLY recommend that school. The professors are really great, and I have enjoyed my experience (as much as you can enjoy nursing school). I do not think they are on a point system to get in, but I do know that I had to write an essay on why I wanted to be a nurse and take a standardized test (PSB?). Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.

Dear ChadleyNC, Thank you so much for your information! This site has really been great for discussing and finding out about area information; yours has been especially helpful. That is too funny you are from Goldsboro, it is still a cesspool if you are wondering. I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post. Thanks again! Kbella126 :) (Kristen)

N Myrtle Beach Hospitals
Dear LoriRN911, Thank you so much for your information. I was on anywho.com trying to look in the hospital categories and couldn't find that much. I did find a few facilities that I think are for psych - of course I cannot find the names now that I'm typing this. I will send that to you later. Where are you living now? We're in Goldsboro, NC which is about 3 1/2 hours away and we are dying to move. Too bad I have about 12 months left. Anyway, good luck to you and hope to talk to you soon! Kristen :)

State Facility or Hospital Ward?
Hey all you psych nurses out there. I will be a new grad soon and am interested in psych nursing. My mom was a psych RN at a state facility and she recommends I go to a psych floor at a hospital instead of a state facility. I was wondering what insight you could give me and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Anyone else broke?
you might consider moving with with family. my husband, son & I moved in with my dad so I could finish school. it was a HUGE struggle selling our home and making that decision, but we didn't have to worry as much. I just concentrated on school and my husband worked. And we do have 2 carpayments, and $85 a week in childcare. good luck!

Hello everybody. I am an ADN student who will be taking the NCLEX in North Carolina, where I go to school. I plan on moving to Virginia upon graduation and starting work there. How long after I take the NCLEX (and pass it) does it take for me to begin the paperwork and become licensed in Virginia so I can begin to work there? Williamsburg VA area - Need Advice !
Hey, thanks for your reply! I am really concerned with what areas are good to live in and what elementary schools are the best. I saw the SOL scores and they all seemed great, but I didn't know if maybe you could recommend an area or school system that would maybe be a little better than another. I really appreciate your help!:)

Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
My reasons for becoming a nurse: 1. Pretty good pay 2. Lots of job opportunities 3. Shift work I can pick from 4. Helping others. Yes this is last on my list b/c everything else is more important. But I do think I will enjoy nursing, or I wouldn't have chosen it as a career.

where in north carolina?
Like others said, the gang activity and school systems have bad reputations in Durham. Also, I have heard it is VERY expensive to live there. My family is in NC, but I lived in FL for 3 years and loved it. I just prefer FL to NC. When I graduate, I am outta here. Good luck!
