  1. Just took my finals today, I got an A in A&P 1:yeah: A&P 2 starts next week. It is with the same professor so I am not worried at all.
  2. I am in my second week of A&P 1, an accelerated 4 week course, 5 hours a day m-f. I was very nervous about it because everyone says how hard it is but I am not finding it difficult at all. I feel so much better. I am scheduled to go into A&P 2 next, then micro. I feel really good about it, bring it on !!!!!:rckn::rckn:
  3. Being a cna is different than being a nurse, so I think I get what you mean. I am a mom with 3 kids, 2,6 and 8. It is hard. I think you should consider moving in with your mom so you can quit your job or at least cut back. It will all pay off in the long run. Sorry about the remark above, it really stinks when you are looking for help and someone attacks you ??? I dont know what that is all about.
  4. Are new grads getting hired in south FL (west palm beach in particular)? My school's student services claims a 100% placement rate right now for nurse grads. Just wonder if that is accurate.
  5. speak to the financial aid office before you make a decision. You may have a problem or they may be able to sort it out for you. Good luck
  6. Also, as I hinted to before, my local cc has a reputation for trying to flunk people out, making students cry and clinicals and so on. Their attrition rate in the nursing program in ridiculous. Like 50 people start 15 finish. Not a big fan of those odds. Be sure to look at those stats as closely as you look at the NCLEX pass rates because if you dont make it thru who cares about the NCLEX. If the majority of the students dont pass I dont think it is a good program regardless.
  7. I believe everything is subjective. Some people struggled with prereqs, others breezed thru. Some had to take the TEAS/Net more than once while some aced it. What is easy for some is challenging to others. I have to agree with Thesquire, students who think nursing school is not so bad probably dont post alot complaining. As with any board, many of the people who post are having difficulties. You probably wont come across alot of posts saying "hey, just wanted to say this isnt so bad". I remember years ago when I was going thru IVF to get pregnant with my son I went on an IVF board to get info. It seemed like nothing but bad experiences. So I asked that very question. One woman responded by saying, the women who get pregnant right away dont find themselves on these boards looking for answers so these posts are not representative of the actual population. In other words, happy, content people dont look for somewhere to vent. Make sense?
  8. I wondered about this as well. I think it has to do with the fact the private universities are for profit so they try to do everything they can to keep you in school and help you pass so they get their $$. State schools and CC arent as concerned with this and have a reputation for trying to weed people out. Hey, I like the fact that they want me to graduate, even if its only because they want my $$. Not that I am saying they pass people who dont make the grades because if you dont meet the cutoff, you are out. But its nice to know they arent out to get you:devil:.
  9. I believe we ARE answering the question by saying that private universities are NOT always easier to get in. Even if the wait list is shorter you may not meet the requirements. For example in my area the CC will accept you if you have a 2.5 gpa or higher but you will still sit on a wait list. On the other hand, my private university does not do a wait list but you would never get in with a 2.5 gpa. Also, all you have to do is PASS the TEAS to get in the CC but at the private university you have to get well above the national average to even be considered. So there is no simple answer, it all depends on your situation and the particular school. If you have awesome grades and Teas/Net scores then yes, private might be faster but I dont know about easier. Then again, you would have your pick of schools. Also, all my credits WILL transfer since my school is FULLY accredited. That is very important.
  10. I just read alot of posts that seem to imply that. This one just seemed to have that undertone as well. I just want people to understand that people chose different programs for lots of different reasons. Some private colleges do just as well or better at producing good nurses.:) I hope I didnt come across as angry. There are lots of people who dont have the patience to sit on waiting lists or maybe they just need to start making money sooner. This economy is hurting alot of people (myself included). Whatever the case may be and whichever way you go good luck!!!
  11. I have to disagree with this. I am attending a private university nursing program and thier standards are much higher than the local cc. The waiting list is shorter for this reason and the higher cost (of course). It bothers me how many people assume that because you are at a private university, you arent as smart. My grades/ Teas score are very high and I would have been guaranteed a spot at my cc but it is too far of a drive and the hours did not fit my schedule with 3 kids.
  12. Wow, I found out I had to take it on a thursday and took it the following wednesday so I would say I studied for 4 or 5 days. I did pretty well.
  13. I was not talking about content, I was talking about specific questions and answers. I was fine with giving advice like know your elements or review the hydrologic cycle, that is fine. What I dont think is ok is saying there was a question that said.... Do you see what I mean though?
  14. I am amazed at the amount of people asking for questions and answers from the TEAS. Does anyone else think this is CHEATING? I spent alot of time studying and I am offended by people trying to take the lazy way out. I got a good score and I am proud of myself for it but I am offended by the requests for answers that I am reading. Why would anyone who took the test give answers, allowing others to get better scores and thereby unfairly "raising the bar" for everyone who is doing it the honest way.
  15. I am sorry to say this but as posted in other threads, giving questions and answers is CHEATING. If you can not pass without cheating then you might want to cosider another profession. The purpose of the TEAS is to weed out the people who wont be able to cut it in nursing school. No offense meant to anyone who dosent pass, trust me I get it. Please just study the ATI study guide and do the online practice test, dont try to find shortcuts. YOU CAN PASS IF YOU STUDY.
  16. I konw, that is the only info I could find on the Wonderlic. I'm still not sure what it has to do with football.
  17. Has anyone taken this test. My college uses it as the entrance test but I just read somewhere that is was an IQ test. I scored a 31 but I dont know what that means, they said it was good. Does anyone know how to read these scores?
  18. I did take a cna course last year but decided not to get certified. The basic skills will be a refresher for that. I went ahead and purchased them. I got the full set on Amazon for $70. I figured that works out to $35 each of the two months for the review. Not too bad.
  19. 2bnurseTV posted a topic in General Students
Does anyone know if new graduate nurses (paticularly ADN-RN) are finding jobs in Florida? I am in the West Palm Beach area. I keep hearing that new graduates up north are having a hard time but I dont know about here.
  20. the set I am looking at getting has begining skills (cna type stuff) and intermediate skills (IV, wound care, ng tubes...). I want to get it because I will have a 2 month wait from the time I finish gen eds to the start of core. I thought it would be an effortless way to familiarize myself before class.
  21. I was thinking about ordering these, has any one seen or used them? Reviews?
  22. At my school, you spend ONE MONTH in each gen ed class. So you only take one at a time but super fast paced. I like it though because you can focus on one thing at a time.
  23. That is a very good score, it means you did better than 90% of the people taking the test nation wide. Your science score is also impressive. Good job!
  24. Oh he has no choice, if he dosent do the program he goes to jail. I totally agree, the kids will suffer but that is fine by her. I didnt even mention the fact the she has another case against him that she filed last month asking the judge to order him to pick up the kids MORE OFTEN. A woman who believes her kids are being abused does NOT ask a judge to give the "abuser" more access to them. When my husband tried to bring that up (which I think proves the whole thing is BS) the judge said "we arent here to discuss that case". ***!!! It is totally relevant. I am trying to get to a place where I can accept this (so is DH) but I keep trying to rationalize it and then I get more and more upset. Hell, they let CHILD MOLESTORS have supervised visits!!!
  25. That is what I was thinking, even the officer in the courtroom told my husband when he was coming out that she saw the judge was "out to get him" as soon as he walked in. I am finding it so hard to accept because it makes no sense at all. If I wasnt afraid of not being able to get my nursing license I would.......lucky for her I guess.
