I wear men's Koi scrubs, and they do not shrink. I think they are the same material.

I think the most comfortable scrubs I have ever worn are from Koi.

I recommend Koi scrubs and Ecko scrubs. Both have lots of pockets, good fabric, but pricey

At my hospital nurse aides do not carry phones, RNs anwser all the call lights

I drink about a pot of coffee during shift, never once fell asleep. Plus I have insomnia as well

I work 12 hr shifts 7p-7am, usually 3 days on, 2 off. I can pick up unlimited overtime, I usually try to do 1-2 shifts of OT per month. Sometimes nurses get mandated (forced to) to stay overtime, so you could end up working 16 hours. Thats because we have staff shortage

I get 26 paid days off a year, plus 10 holidays and 14 sick days. I usually take a vacation in spring, one or two in summer, and another one in winter. I also use my sick days if needed. I also try to take a mini vacation monthly (I only get one weekend off a month) and go out of town with family

I work at VA hospital on tele/oncology unit, and we have Dynamaps in each room, each pt. gets a disposable b/p cuff on admission. Each bed also has a flat screen tv on a arm, and a ceiling lift.

Driving is a great idea! You will make friends very fast :) I was stuck there without transportation - had to beg for rides, waste money on taxi, etc. Wasnt fun. We would get released early some days, but the bus wasnt scheduled till 1930 - we were living off post at Holiday Inn. So it was a headache! When you are at Camp. Bullis, dont do stupid stuff like having a family bring you out a deck of cards, or go running outside the fence by yourself. Food sucked, and actually they ran out few days - you get stuck with MRE for dinner. So I brought protein bars, etc. - or get in the line early There is a food truck that comes over daily - great food. Bring cash!!!!!!

It took me about a year and a half to get to interview process, even though I knew someone who works here (went to nursing school together), and I took care of her family as patients at my previous place of employment. Just have patience and keep applying. Go talk to Nurse recruiter yourself.

Just came back from BOLC, it was easy since I am prior service for 11 years. Lot of down time, it was very hot (august) It was over 100 degrees daily. Make sure you are ready for that! Lot of fun training, but also lot of boring powerpoints. Off on weekends.

I am scheduled for the August 2010 class.
