  1. Oh that sounds great! Just make sure you get a detailed list of your responsibilities and make sure you're comfortable doing everything. Seems like you're moving up the ranks rather quickly and that's exciting! Good luck! Please let us know how you do! :)
  2. I'm sorry, I don't know what an ALF is, could you elaborate on the position? I'm excited for you regardless!
  3. I have been taking pre-req's at MCI NN for the last month and I really love it. I did have some financial issues that moved my start date for the RN program back to May. As far as the teachers go, I think they are comparable to more traditional colleges. The material is very demanding. It goes very fast. But it's not undoable obviously :) Also- get ON THEM about testing out of classes. They don't like to do this, because it costs them money. But it's your right as a student, and I tested out of the computer class which was exceptionally easy. If you know anything about word, powerpoint and excel you can pass it and then you don't have to take the class. that's the best bit of info I have. Goodluck!
  4. i would like to think a person rearing up out of bed in a combative fit would fill the ROM qualifications. So just un-strap em, stand back, tackle them again and call it good? *kidding ofcourse* good luck!
  5. Angelfire, My advice would be that you don't forget. I sometimes think that nurses become so immune to their gut instincts that sometimes they loose that ability to HAVE those things stick with them. The fact that it's sticking with you because you had some gut instinct that you think you could have done something differently just proves that you are human, and a very very good nurse. So let it stick with you for a while. Realize that there is a difference between REMEMBERING and feeling GUILTY about it. The former is productive, the latter is not. You did your job. You did everything that was expected of you and you did it well. I have been present in some not so graceful deaths, and I would like to think I understand how you feel. I know that it's not easy to get over. I know it's easy to focus on what you could have done differently and beat yourself up. But the truth of the matter is experiences like this make you a better, stronger nurse. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
  6. I agree that the medical profession can be a catty place, but I always try to remember I'm there for my patients, not for the other people I work with. It's really hard when you go in and all you hear is your co-workers complaining about EVERYTHING. Sometimes I wonder if these people are just miserable. I know it's a high stress job, and most nurses are really underpaid, but come on! In the grand scheme of the world we are all doing really well! I mean, HALF of the total world population do not have refrigeration or indoor plumbing. I think sometimes we just are too hard on ourselves and the people around us. I try to just remain positive and try to be a positive influence to these people. Goodluck, and I hope you can keep your head up! There's lots of people out there that need you!
  7. Hmmm, well I'm sorry to hear that waterpaint. Good luck!
  8. Again I keep hearing hospital, I would really like to know the new hire rates for long term carefaclities in the area.
  9. Hello! I know I have been without work for quite some time and the Virginia Health Department has been very helpful. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call and even when I was working I still got a much discounted rate on medical services. Here is there info (hope this isn't breaking any rules, sorry if it is, i'm new and ignorant and just trying to help!!! :) ) I use these 2 services: Family Practice Clinic Victoria Center (757) 727-1172, ext. 21705 (information) or ext. 21710 (Central Scheduling - appointments) This clinic provides medical care by appointment to eligible patients (adults, children, and infants) who do not have insurance. Patients are seen on an appointment basis. Well and sick child care is provided as well as care for patients with chronic disease problems such as hypertension or diabetes. Call (757) 727-1172, ext. 21705 for further information. To make an appointment, please call Central Scheduling at (757) 727-1172, ext. 21710. Women's Specialty Clinic Victoria Center (757) 727-1172, ext. 21710 The Women’s Specialty Clinic operates Monday through Friday at the Victoria Center, 3130 Victoria Boulevard. 10. I have worked in long term care as a CNA for 5 years. It is probably the most rewarding, and the most stressful job you will ever have. I really love old people. I think that they are amazing and caring and have a lot of knowledge to give, but working tireless hours trying to give 20 people the care they need in 20 seconds can really wear you down. But there needs to be patient, reliable, caring people that can work in this field, and I think that if you have any inkling at all to do it, then definitely shadow someone for a day or two and check it out. Talk to the patients. Most nursing homes have activity departments that accept volunteers and I think that would be a great way to get into the facility and meet the patient type and go from there. Good luck!
  11. Has anyone thought about looking at nursing homes for RN jobs? I just can't see places like that turning away new grads and it's a great place to get experience....
  12. Hey! I'm starting my chem and math pre-reqs Dec 15th too, maybe we'll be in the same class :) I think we will be fine. The classes are 4 hours long, so I think we'll get a lot of hands on learning :)
  13. those scores will definitely get you into the RN program. my scores were in the 70's and you would have thought they were about to grab me a mensa application. :) Good luck! I start in NN RN program in January, starting my pre-reqs tomorrow. Chemistry and Math, yippie skippy!
  14. I am sorry but you better learn some patience if you're going into nursing :) You can't just call a whole state stupid because you've dealt with one bad apple :)
