Embarassing but true, please advise
Hi, Why was your dui classified as a misdemeanor? I'm in nj, and I have a dwi. I will be going for nursing also. This hasn't affected me during my application for a cna and pharmacy technician. Maybe your state is different, but I don't think a dui will hurt you. Check with your state. I don't think it even comes up on the background check, but my dwi is not a misdemeanor. Call the background check agency that will be used at school and check with them. That's what I did and they said I would be okay.

Future of LPN?
Hi all, I am currently enrolled in a course to complete my cna. I will work as a cna for a few years while saving up to get my lpn. I don't plan on getting my rn. Will I be okay in the future? There's so much talk of lpn's being phased out. Right now, I am tired of school. I have a bachelor's degree in a subject that hasn't helped me secure a job. I just want to work at something interesting, make a liveable salary, and relax. Lpn with no intention of getting rn. I may change my mind later but right now this is what I want to do. Also, I will need to work once I have enough money to pay for my lpn program. Can you work part time as a cna while attending school. How many hours do they offer part time cnas usually. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Can someone with a mental illness really be an effective nurse?
The mental illness would be paranoid schizophrenia. Is this highly unlikely? And would it be way too stressful of a career? Lastly, are there any other medical professions that you would suggest?

Paranoid Schizophrenia and Nursing
Can someone with paranoid schizophrenia work as a cna or rn (get licensed) in nj? It is not so severe. No hallucinations. Mostly paranoia and non-violent. No criminal history. If so, would the person have a problem if they decide to move to another state and work as a nurse? I have searched the web and could not find much info on this. I have seen here that some people with bipolar are working as a nurse and another where someone with a less severe form of schizophrenia was a nursing student. Does anyone know where I can find information on this?

What's it like working in ltc nursing?
Thanks for the info. I have alot to consider. I have been reading posts on other websites about how much others have come to hate nursing altogether. I would like to help people, but I am not sure that's enough to go on.

What's it like working in ltc nursing?
Hi, I am thinking about going to school to be an RN. I really don't know if this is the right career for me. I am also scared too because of the responsibility involved. Can anyone tell about what it's like to be an RN in a nursing home? The typical day, the abuse, the hours, is there alot of overtime?. If I do continue in this career, I was thinking that I would just work and stay in the nursing home field. Would that be weird? Out of all specialties, this seems most appealing. Well, this and psychiatric nursing.
