New Aurora Hospital in Oconomowoc/Summit...anyone applied?
I donot know if farmerRN ran into this situation, but I worked in a very hostile racist environment, with unbelievable nurses who would report you basically lie about you to the manager, never tell you to your face, and then talk to you as if you were their best friend, they'd talk about explicit sexual acts at the nurses station, they refer to certain ethnic groups as an "infestation" upon their small community. I'm sure most nurses can say they've experienced these types of situations during their career, but I can honestly say this was a first for me. I've done it for a while ran into some nasty nurses but none like the ones at Aurora Healthcare. The manager eager to make pay cuts absolutely went along with anything and everything these nurses would say. Their Doctors are so low and petty some nurses just do not stand a chance. Their doctors seemingly know what they are doing but if you really look at their "history" you'd think twice, atleast the ones I had the displeasure of dealing with. Planetree, "like a family" all a joke its all about the money. These nurses I worked with really gave Wisconsin nurses a bad name.

Assaulted and written up. (vent)
Don't forget to apply for disability, how can you work in an ER with a sprained wrist, it would be great to stay home for a while at their expense due to their negligence and bad treatment of their staff

HIPAA violation, termination and new employment
Some nurses are fired for legitimate reasons, but many are fired because the manager personally did not like them, or because a nurse feels uncomfortable working in other areas other than her/his department,or because a doctor puts pressure on a manager about a nurse, or because money is a factor and staffing has to be reduced, these managers hide their causes or reasons behind dishonest excuses like "you refused assignments", "a patient complained about you" "your co-workers said" how honest is that on their part, they play games to cover themselves and in the process ruins a nurses ability to earn a living.

HIPAA violation, termination and new employment
I don't want to disagree, I personally believe honesty is the best policy, especially as far as patient care honesty and ethics should prevail, but in nursing ( horribly nasty co-workers and managers, who believe me at one time or another have made mistakes soon forget)being honest at times is not the best policy. I'm sure alot of you out there know what I mean.

HIPAA violation, termination and new employment
There was a young lady who was fired for looking at her sisters records, the sister worked there as well, one of her co-workers reported her,the manager an absolute low life fired her. The young nurse is still looking for employment, she lives in a state where this organization is almost a monopoly. Try not to put this place on your resume.

obnoxious OB
We all make mistakes, don't be so hard on yourself. Next time you'll know how to handle this situation. Next time tell him I need to start an IV first, ignore him as best you can. If you're new on the unit you will not be able to avoid working with this OB, because all the other nurses who have been there longer than you are trying to avoid him as well, and they're going to dump him on you. Most OBs are this way pushy nasty rude, ignore him when he sees he can't frazzle you he'll cut it out. At times you will have to give him a little of his own medicine. Reporting a doctor from my experience goes no where, they bring in the patients (money) managers are always going to tip toe around them, yet a nurse is always disposable for hospitals.

so eager to report coworkers!
If you think its bad now wait until you're a nurse. Nurses can be so cruel towards one another, so nasty. Doctors treat us like dirt, managers treat us like dirt, we treat each other like dirt

Verbal, Written Warnings and Termination
Hi, I was recently fired without verbal warning, without written warning, without any warning. I've been an L&D nurse for 11 years and recently started working in a small rural hospital where LDRP was the norm. I worked there for 5-6months. One day at home I get a call from "loss prevention"-big word for security. This security guard wanted to see me, when I asked him why he said it was pertaining to a patients complaint. I was shocked, I asked him if he had spoken to my manager he said yes. I've never been in this type of situation so I told him I was going to speak to my manager first then I will get back to him, he proceded to ask me why I felt the need to talk to my mangager, he said the manager already knew he was in charge of this situation. I left my manager a message. I waited for an hour or more for her response, but she never got back to me. I was so upset and worried, I decided to call this security guard back and arrange to meet him as soon as possible. When I got there he told me that a patient had complained about waiting too long for her medication. The second complaint happened about a month and a half before. The patient denied ever taking the medication I charted and charged her with. Did I confuse the two patients, to be honest I didnot remember its hard to after a month an 1/2. This security guard stated there was reasonable suspicion that I was taking these patients drugs, that it was diversion. I asked for a drug test immediately, it was a voluntary act, the test was negative. This security guard proceded to suspend me from my job until further investigation, he told me I should not have any contact with anyone at the facility. I was in a state of shock, I called my husband in tears. I have never in all my years ever been treated this horribly by any insitution I've ever worked for. My manager then called me at home after she spoke with the security guard stating that she was busy all day and had just gotten my message and that she wished she would have been able to speak to me before I met with this security guard. I began crying and told her how embarassing this was for me that in my 11 years of nursing I've never been accused of anything like this or even had a patient complaint against me, her answer "relax just wait until they call". A week later the manager and a human resource rep. called me and fired me, this was the first time in 5-6 months that this manager even made me aware of any complaints against me, she had me sit in a room with a man alone a security guard who was making decisions and judgements on my nursing actions.

Has anyone taken an interest in OB after other areas?
Hi, I've been an OB nurse mostly Labor & Delivery for 11 years now, while it is an enjoyable area as far as witnessing new life coming into the world, it really is not a positive area of nursing. It is a high stress environment with the same old nasty nurses, managers and doctors. As far as being 1:1 care, thats a myth there are times when you are juggling 2-3 patients in labor, and to quote one manager who was called in to help her unit during a very busy night "well you better hope no one else comes in" she goes right back to bed. Its not that different from any other area of nursing at all.
