  1. I got accepted into a program that was about an hour and 20 minutes away from my house. The commute wasn't terrible, it actually gave me time to relax a bit, but it was the cost of gas and having a vehicle that wasn't always reliable that made me change my mind. Now my school is so close that a vehicles reliability and the cost of gas don't matter because I can walk to class :)

Hi beatrocka, Thanks for the congrats:) Isn't it weird that sometimes allnurses will notify you on new posts and sometimes it won't. Anyway, how's it going? You know I like to know anything I can about the program so I want to hear everything :) How was Nurs II and III? What were the clinicals like? What are the tests like? How many people are left in your class now? I heard a lot of people drop out in the 2nd semester. I didn't take micro through PCCC. I did take A&P I and II there though. Talk to you soon!
  3. Sorry you're being put through the ringer. You should go to the highest authority at the school that has a say over nursing, make sure you go in person, and get the final answer (which will hopefully be that you do have a chance to get in) in writing. Bring the emails you received to show that you've been doing your part in finding out what is going on. Tell/show the person you are getting a lot of conflicting answers and want to avoid any further confusion in the future. As for the testing money, I know at my school the tests are bought by the school so the school did not get a profit from the tests, but maybe some schools up the price so they get a cut.

Cool, is this your 2nd degree?

Congrats D! What other school are you looking into attending?

Hello, Thanks I can't believe you haven't heard anything. Have you called? When I submitted my application in September I asked if everyone would be notified either way and they said yes. I guess since classes don't start till late Jan maybe they feel they still have time to notify people. Good luck and keep me posted:) Michele

Hey Dee, Did you get your letter yet? I got mine a little over a week ago. I made it :). Orientation and registration is next week. I'm excited!
  8. I don't know of any in NJ, but Northampton Community College in Bethlehem PA has dorms and a 2 year nursing program.
  9. My school works on a points system. Each student is given a certain number of points depending on, the number of credits they have, their GPA, and their score on the NET. They deduct 1 point from each class that a student failed (getting less then a C is failing for us) and had to retake. So for you my school would deduct a point for Micro, but I'm not sure how they would handle your Intro to Psych since you didn't fail it in the first place. This seems to be a school by school rule so you would be best checking with each school.

Hello, I haven't seen a printable application either, so I believe you do have to go in and pick one up. At Sussex the applications are available in the Allied Health office. I was told once September rolls around to check frequently for them because there wasn't a set date they would be available. ~Michele

Thanks Dee. There wasn't a formal notice at Sussex about the NET changing and I was going to wait till Sept to take again, but I wandered over to PCCC website and found out that wasn't an option. They were going to change in June, but now its post-poned till Sept. From what I've seen at Sussex they are offering a pre-test for the TEAS during these summer months and PCCC is still offering the NET through August but they don't have any spots available. I'm so happy I got the NET done with. I'm impatently waiting too lol. As of Sept 1st I have set on the calender of my phone to check for the application through out the month. Did you see that they are now asking for more pre-req's for the night nursing students? Orginally I was told a year ago that you just needed Intro to Chem, but starting Jan 2011 you have to have Eng I and II, A&P I and II, General Psychology, Psychology of Human Growth and Develpoment, and Chem. At least we don't need Micro right away. Since you're taking it in the fall, how is Micro going to show up in the application? Will it just say "in progress" or something like that? ~Michele
  12. I took Psychology of Human Growth and Development online through Darton College in Georgia.

Hi, I somehow stopped getting notifications that anyone responded to this thread so that's why it's been so long since I wrote. How are you two doing? I got to retake the NET in May and got in the 98 percentile so that helped push my points up to the maximum 22. I'm so excited. Did you guys hear PCCC is doing away with the NET and using the TEAS, but not the science part of them? I didn't get a chance to take Micro this summer due to money so I'm hoping to take it this fall. I signed up for Nutrition and Statistic this fall also. I plan to transfer directly into a BSN program after getting my ADN so these 2 courses will be to transfer. The applications will be available in September so it's getting closer :) I heard you know if you made it in by Halloween.
  14. I don't have any info on classes, but when I looked in Walden RN-BSN I couldn't find who their BSN was accredited by. I know their MSN program is accredited, but when I looked it up for the BSN program, I didn't see it.
  15. Here in NJ almost every doctors office I have been to in that last 5 years has referred to a one or more MA as a nurse. I have found out only through my interest in nursing and upon questioning the "nurses", they then reveal that they are MA's not an LPN or RN. I find it offensive that doctor don't distinguish between the two.
  16. Thank you for all the feedback. I'm glad to hear that evening clinicals aren't bad at all.
  17. Hello, I'm hoping to get into a evening ADN program this coming January and our clinical hours will be: first semester 5-9 then second semester 5-10:30, third semester 5-11, and fourth 3-11. A friend of mine was surprised that all our clinicals were in the evening as if I would be missing something by not doing morning/day routines with patients. Anyone out there that has had evening clinicals, can you tell me what it's like. What were you assigned to do? I've heard people talking about day clinicals where they bathe the patients and help move them from one place to another (like taking a patient to a different area for therapy or a meal, something like that). If those things are done during the day, do the evening nurse tend more to patients at their bedside? If you're someone who did both a day clinical and a night clinical, can you tell me how they compare?

Hello, When I read your post I was wondering how far along in the program you were, because you mentioned not being in Nursing 2 till fall, but you had so much knowledge of nursing 1 that I thought maybe you were taking this semester off or something :) So you are a night nursing student? I think that PCCC offers night every Jan and day every fall right?. I want to be a night student as well. I'm applying for the Jan 2011 class at SCCC since that is when the night program is offered next. I have all gen ed course (I think it's like 30 credits) complete except for Micro which I may try to do this summer, but I'm not sure. I averaged a 4.0 gpa amazingly so that gives me a good amount of points. Right now though I took the NET once and only scored in the 76 percentile so it makes my points not look so great. How did you do on the NET? I literally only got a little more then half the reading done before the test closed down. I have to read faster next time. Do you have any tips for the NET? I got the study guide so I plan to use that again. I hear you on people's attitudes making or breaking the course for them. I also agree on your example of what a constructive way to think is verses a destructive way to think. I can see clinicals in nursng 1 being a very big learning experience. You'll have to update me when you go. Do you go to a nursing home first? Ok, so the 4 days a week clinical is probably bogus. Please let me know what you hear about nursing 4. Do you know how hard it is to find out that kind of information? I asked 4 different faculity members and got 4 different answers on how many hours you were in class/lab or clinical. I have a family so I wanted to make sure I could keep up with the demands of the program each semester, but no one seemed to know what actually went into the nursing program. My next step was to talk to a nursing prof, but luckily I got a response here. What was it like getting in at PCCC? What it as competitive as they say? Do you have any classes left to take? Talk to you later

Thank you so much for your reply. How is the course's so far? I've heard mix reviews. Some say it's do able other claim it's nearly impossible. What were the clinical's like in Nursing 1? Also, you have class, labs, and clinicals M-Th and Friday there isn't anything scheduled, but the lab is open for practice, right? So you mentioned in Nursing 2 that clinical's are 2 days so does that mean that there are only 2 days of class then? Does the schedule continue to follow that pattern? Like in Nursing 3, do you have clinical's 3 days a week and 1 day of class, then in Nursing 4, you are in clinical's all 4 days? One advisor at school told me by the end (nursing 4) you were in the hospital 8 hours a day 4 days a week. That sounds a little intimadating, but if it's true by that point in the program you're probably ready for it.

Hello, I'm hoping that someone who was (or is) a Passaic county college or Sussex county college nursing student can tell me if you have clinicals 1 or 2 days a week in nursing I, for how long, and how much does it increase when you are in nursing II, III, IV?
  23. Hello Everyone, I have been searching high and low to find out the actual amount of hours a student is in lecture, lab, and clinical for Nursing I-IV in the PCCC (Passaic county college)/SCCC (Sussex county college) nursing program. I have called the college and been told they don't know for sure because scheduling is confusing, but I think they believe I am asking for the specific time/day of the class (ie: lecture MW 5-9, lab TR 5-9, clinical F 5-10), that is not what I am asking. I just want to know a weekly break down of the number of hours each semester. I looked up this info in the course search for both schools and the hours seem to stay the same throughout nursing I through nursing IV, but I believe that is an error considering the Nursing I is 7 credits, Nursing II is 8, and both Nursing III and IV are 9 credits so the hours should increase with each semester. If anyone on here is (or was) in any of the nursing classes (I-IV), could you please let me know how long you are really in the lecture, lab, and clinical proportion of the program. Please specify what semester you're writing about. Thank you!
