Even if you HATE the drive to Charlotte, DRIVE BY Piedmont Medical Center. Piedmont Medical Center is the worst hospital in the area & perhaps the worst hospital in the state. Even though I hate the long drive to work at a hospital in Charlotte, I know I made the right decision. A few of my neighbors work at Piedmont and they are constantly hounding me about any openings at my hospital because they hate working for Piedmont so much.

--What is the RN base pay for a new grad? $20-$22/hour --What is the RN base pay for 2 years Med/Surg/Orthopedic experience? $20-$24/hour --Are there any shift differentials for working nights or weekends? $4 nights & $3 weekends

The normal yearly raise is only like 2% so it won’t help too much. A weekender is required to work every weekend of the year expect for maybe two. They only get the weekend pay on the weekend. Depending on the hospital, the weekend is considered Fri, Sat, Sun. The weekender normally only works 24 hours/week. Overtime is paid after 40 hours, not 36. If you work an extra 12 hours, then only 8 of those hours will be overtime.

The HR person probably saw that you applied for 41 positions at one time and rejected you outright because a serious candidate would only apply for a few focused positions. The "High" Demand days are gone. There are so many experienced nurses coming to the area that new grads don't really have a chance. My friend that recently got hired at CMC told me that 1/2 of the new nurses were from out of state and the newly hired nurses had an average of 8 years of experience. This makes it impossible for new grads to get hired.

Plenty of us don't have any criminal history and are having the same problems at getting a job as you. It has nothing to do with your past or their religion, it's just a tough job market.

How about some details. What job are you looking for? CNA, LPN, RN??? Where in North CarolinA are you looking?

If you have experience, you may be able to make $22-$23 plus shift diff. So it might not be too different than what you currently make. Hopefully in two years, the job market will be better.

that's good. desperately looking for a job just to pay the bills is a miserable place to be! my friend that recently got hired onto cmc. she said at her orientation, the average experience of newly hired rns was about 8 years. my friend only had a few years and she got a job, but of course she is local, has a great personality, is super smart, and really loves being a nurse so that didn't hurt. hopefully things will pick up by the time you get down here.

They need to train you. Don't let them cheat you by not getting enough training before you are on your own.

north carolina may be one of the worst to find a new grad position. news got out that there was a nursing shortage here, so thousands of nurses from all over the country came here looking for work and they keep coming. hospitals are not hiring and plenty of local nurses are unemployed. i would recommend you stay put until the job market picks up.

both cmc & presbyterian are good hospitals to work for. you would be fortunate to get a job at either. honestly, you should start applying now because nurses from all over the country are coming here to work and the few jobs are very hard to get. good luck.

just curious about why you moved to area? washington is a long way from columbia, sc! i know some good hospitals in columbia, but i don't think they are hiring lpns.

1. Most important, you need to get a job to pay the bills! 2. Talk to someone at the school to see if you have all the classes to start nursing school. You might need some prereqs. 3. Find a school that has an eariler start date and a time that is better for you. Hopefully by the time you graduate nursing school, the job market will be better, because new grads are having a hard time find jobs right now.

Call HR and start bugging her to forward your application to the hiring manager.

Have you tried Carolina Pines in Hartsville? I know they used to hire a lot of LPNs as floor nurses & they have a posting for LPNs: http://www.cprmc.com/Careers/JobOpeningList.aspx McLeod & Carolinas are tough to get into during good times if you don't know someone, so I only imagine they are impossible to get into now. I am surprised they even gave you an interview. On a different note, I always heard from the nurses that worked in prisons that it was easy work. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Greenville is a nice place to live. Fort Mill is also nice and you could work in Charlotte if you lived here. Pay down here is lower and jobs are hard to get, but it's a great place to live.

not any harder than getting any other nursing job in the area. hospitals have jobs but there are just so many qualified nurses from all over the country applying for these jobs, that it is tough to get one. i would start applying now. i don't know if anyone offers relocation expenses any more, some one else would have to answer that one.

i would suggest that you start applying now, but if you can't move till sept then i guess you could hold off till the summer. your real problem is going to be finding a job, the licensing issues are minor in comparison.

Which hospital exactly are you talking about?

Wow, six kids! I don't see how you do it. I can barely afford to live on my own with my nursing salary much less take care of six little ones too. Good Luck!

Then study pharmacy. Income source from what? Are you planning get your RN?

As for Charlotte, CMC and Presbyterian will pay around $1K to $2K a year for education. They don't post amounts on their websites, but that is what some nurses that worked there told me.

LPNs take the NCLEX and are issued a NURSING license from the state, so they are nurses according to the law. Your opinion has no bearing on that classification, sorry. :icon_roll

i just checked their website ( https://www.applymuscjobs.com ) and they have about six new graduate positions listed. when is the last time you looked? when are you taking the nclex? i doubt you'll get much consideration if you haven't passed yet because there are many other new graduates that are applying to these same positions that have passed the nclex and have a license. they aren't going to waste their time with someone that doesn't have a license yet, sorry. by the way, charleston is my favorite city. i wish i lived there!
