  1. hey guys, I found scrub pants for us dudes who need a belt. I ordered some from Tafford Uniforms and they have cargo pockets and belt loops. Only problem is that they don't come in very many colors. So if your school or hospital is color coded you may not be able to find them in the required color.
  2. abs9382; All instructors at Baptist are currently working in their field as well as teaching in the classroom. You won't find this is so at SAC or St Philips. Also all instructors at Baptist have at least their Master's degrees. Yes, I would say Baptist is one of the top schools in the area for nursing, radiology, surg. tech, sonography. I heard from our Dean on this past Tues. that Baptist should be offering BSN within 18 months to 2 years.
  3. Hey folks, I am beginning my 2nd year at Baptist and it is now an associate's degree. According to our Dean we will be able to do a BSN in 5 to 7 years in the future at BSHP. If I am not mistaken the Tuition is around $19,000 now, but there is help out there if you need it. (Project Quest, The City of San Antonio, and scholarships, etc....) I love my school they will not "spoon" feed you information, but they want their students to succeed.
  4. Most community colleges will let you do A&P I in a short semester followed by A&P II the next short semester, but get ready for some very intense studying and difficult exams. I took A&P II 2 years ago in the second summer session and I almost failed.
  5. Don't even think about it anymore, if you're unwilling to change. Cutting corners and going against policy could get a patient killed. You would not want that on your conscience.
  6. Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read the post at the following link: https://allnurses.com/male-nursing-student/expelled-once-previous-441194.html
  7. Sorry, one other thing. Go to our website. http://bshp.edu. The website will guide you and it will have all the contact info and how to apply. See you at school.
  8. You're in luck. I go to the BSHP. I am currently in my 1st year and loving it. I am in the evening program. We go Mon. through Thur. 18:30 to 21:30 for lecture and Saturdays from 06:45 to 18:45 for clinicals. Then we have several classes during the day with 2 six hour clinicals per week. Most of the evening students are employed full or part time at various jobs. We only have 2 classes going at any one time during the year. This years senior students graduate this April, then my class will be the senior students when fall semester starts in Aug. One thing about Baptist is that all professors have at least a Master's degree in their field of work. Since you already have a BS you probably have most if not all the prereqs. out of the way.
  9. Sorry, but I don't have any info. I'm presently enrolled at the Baptist School of Health Professions, so you could say that I am kinda partial to the Baptist System. But since I haven't worked as a Nurse yet I have no idea about pay ranges. I have been told that new RN (just graduated) are looking at around between $21 to $29 per hour.
  10. We have 3 large hospital systems in San Antonio. Baptist, Methodist, and Christus Santa Rosa. If you want to work ER with the "Big Boys" then University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center. Then there is the VA Hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft. Sam Houston, and Wilford Hall at Lackland Air Force Base.. There are also several smaller hospitals TexSan Heart Hospital, Nix Medical Center and others.
  11. Folks, Take it from us old timers. I have never worked in the medical field before, so I've never made more than $12/ hr before. Give me $21 and I'll be the happiest man on earth. It's not about the money. It's about caring for others for me anyway. Yeah, I've worked construction, fueled airplanes, security guard, etc. I wish that I had the opportunity to go to nursing school years ago, I would have jumped at it. But yeah I'd be happy with $21/hr.
  12. Hey guys, I just finished my 1st semester of RN school, I'm 48 and when I graduate in May 2011 I'll be 50. I can't believe I'm just now starting a 3rd career. I wish I had enough horse sense when I was 20 to have become a Nurse back then, but oh well. It sure is great ain't it?
  13. I have been caring for my youngest daughter who was born with Spina-Bifida and parapalegic for 24 years. Our oldest daughter was involved in a severe auto accident almost 7 years ago 48% burns and bilateral BKA's . I did all her nursing burn care when she was released home. She told me one day that I have been working as a Nurse for the past 24 years now I needed to go to school so I could get paid for it. I am about to enter my second semester of RN school, I love everything about it!!!!!!!!!!!:loveya: I only wish I had tried to be a Nurse years ago instead of waiting until I was 48 years old.
  14. St. Philips is the easiest to get into. Baptist requires A&P 1 and an entrance test.
  15. Christus Santa Rosa and Methodist Children's in San Antonio are also both very good.
  16. I wear white Nike Shocks.
  17. In my program 8 of 30 are guys.
  18. You can get an Associate's at Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton, TX with no wait. It is about 30 or 40 miles outside of San Antonio. Most students in San Antonio don't even know about it.
  19. Hey folks, FYI, in addition to UTHSCSA for a Bachelor's there is also Wayland Baptist and Incarnate Word. For Associate's not only SAC, but there is also Baptist School of Health Professions (where I attend). And for a certificate program RN there is Galen. There are a lot of Nursing programs here in San Antonio and many job opportunities when we graduate.
  20. San Antonio, TX 48 years old here going for RN.
  21. We can't get enough nurses here in South Texas. We have about 6 to 10 programs in San Antonio. The hospitals can't hire them fast enough.
