  1. Although I think you may want to re-consider your choice in careers, if you work pysch you most likely will never have to do any of that and it is a very interesting job as well. did it for a couple of years and loved it. But in 20 years of nursing I have had my hands (or gloves) dirty more times than I can remember. It does make you feel good to help someone who can't do for themselves. Otherwise head up to to office and work in education or something without direct pt. care.
  2. I work for Healthsouth rehab and they give you 8 to 10 patients and also they pay well. Good benefits too Other specialty type hospitals will hire Lvn's and also small hospitals in smaller towns.
  3. It is strange to me too. I don't know why they let him do that. I would be mad too if he called me off duty and I never gave him my cell number. I have to pay for that bill and all the texting too. He should call the hospital and talk to the nurse taking care of that pt. or at least a nurse on duty. What can Ido I have worked here 16 years and now this Dr. isn't speaking to me since I complained
  4. One of the Doctors where I work does not like to be called and will text nurses his orders. He want the nurse to text him what ever is the problem - Like --Mr Jones in 234 had a fall and hit his knee and his head. He is bleeding from the cut on his head. I do have a problem with this as several times he will text a nurse off duty and she calls the hospital to relay the message. I complained to the DON but since he is the medical director he gets it his way. I want to know if I am right. I feel this has to be a HIPPA violation at the very least.
  5. We are not allowed to volunteer. We have to take our turn.
  6. I have worked for H.S. for 16 years. Has it's ups and downs but really not a bad place to work, and fairly good benefits too. Pay is pretty good but the raises really suck
  7. Most def! Welcome male nurses! We need you!
  8. They are making every nurse at my hospital take this class next week and we not only miss work over it we won't get paid for it, but they are paying for the class
  9. A little baby was in the hospital with a virus. An IV was going and her 3 year old sister was looking at it. She ask "What is that, her water?" Being that she was 3, I said, Yes it was her water. Then she ask "Why?" I said well it is special water to make her feel better. She said "Oh! It's Sprite!"
  10. Well, it has to be done, but when you have time. Make time for the patient first. Stay late if needed to chart
  11. Oh boy, Have you touch on my problem. I work at a hospital where the census has been low for awhile. I am out of any PTO or anything else to get me paid. I have been getting abou48 hrs. every 2 weeks for the past few months and Have a hard time paying bills with that. MY thing is ----If I am obligated to give them full time hrs. --like I signed up for --- WHY are they not obligated to give me the same. They said they need full-time then put you working part-time hrs. and get away with it. Is it legal or is it a lawsuit. I live in Texas and there is no union but I do have a lawyer.
