  1. Definitely will pray for her. I hope she pulls through!
  2. Thank you for your reply! That's really cool that you have a tight group. That's wierd that the first week is the worst. I'm used to the first week being easy and just going over the syllabus and stuff. But I'll definitely prepare myself to eat, breathe, and dream nursing lol. It's good to hear that the stories of the difficulty are at least a little bit over exaggerated. I'm sure it will be hard as heck though. It's nice to talk to someone who's living through it. Makes me at ease. So thank you. : )
  3. Hello all. I got accepted into the ASU upper division nursing program for spring 2010. I'm crazy excited, but I'm getting nervous because I don't know what to expect. So I thought I would ask if anybody who is currently in the program or allumni could explain what I should expect and how everything is organized. I've read many posts on here in which people have stated that it is "intense". I've also read many posts describing how difficult nursing school is but an elaboration on intense would be nice. Basically I just want a description on what the ASU program is going to be like in a nut shell. Also, I plan to work only on Saturdays and Sundays if that will work with the schedule. Thank you!!
  4. I am a pvcc student! But I just finished all my prerequisites last semester and recently got accepted into the asu nursing program for January. Good luck on your last three classes!
  5. I went to the american heart association website and reserved a spot there. I took mine last saturday. www.americanheart.org
  6. I am a nursing student. I don't smoke and I am democrat.
  7. I haven't gotten my letter yet but that score means I got in. Yay! I've been out of school waiting for 8 months cuz I've been done with all the prereqs. It's wierd saying this but not being in school and just working is really boring lol. I can't wait to start classes again. For those who didn't get in, i know how you feel. That letter that says we regret to inform you... Is really heart breaking. But you all did really great! And good job on your hard work! Most people don't get in the first time but never give up! I was thinking of changing my major cuz I was So discouraged but I got back up and did it. And remember you can always take higher classes to replace lower grades on your application and start studying the net as soon as possible! I used the net study guide and I also got an arithmetic book unrelated to the net to study fractions, decimals, and basic algebra. There's lots of things to do to prepare! Well I'll stop rambling on. Congratulations to the people who got in! And good luck next semester to the others!!!
  8. Maybe an ultimatum of some kind could work. But scare tactics could go either way; depends on the personality. I'm male and scare tactics work against me when I get into rutts haha. Or maybe once he does take a shower you could "pounce on him". Could give him a boost of self-esteem if he thinks you find him irresistable. Then maybe he would clean more often. Because he might be thinking there is no point to put in the effort to get clean.
  9. There's always those people that are so interested in what other people did on examinations. my thoughts are that they are not interested in what "you" got on the test. They are only thinking of themselves. They're hoping you did worse than them so they can feel high and mighty. And then they ask for you to teach them how you study. Well in my opinion, it doesn't matter how you study. If you want to learn the material and are actually interested you will learn it. If you're just looking at achieving the prize and are not interested in the material it's going to be very hard. Your mind will think it's unimportant information and throw it in its metaphoric recycle bin. I stopped telling people my grades a long time ago. It's a waste of time and energy. I am my own motivation :)
  10. I am interested in either becoming a crna are an adult np once I earn a bsn and acquire a few years of experience :)
  11. I can't stand psychology classes so I know I wouldn't enjoy psych. It frustrates me. I can't see myself in geriatrics either but clinicals could change my mind when I get to it. You never know. I agree with the earlier post about "fixing things" so I'm very interested in trauma or some kind of icu.
  12. I plan to attend Arizona state university bsn program in spring 2010. If I get accepted. I find out in oct
  13. The bad job market is not only in the nursing profession. It's everywhere. People in all sorts of careers are having trouble finding jobs. In this economy, the job market in general is poor. So in my opinion I would not abandon nursing for the job market alone. If it's something you would enjoy doing then stick with it. Once the economy makes a turn around I'm sure nursing jobs will start to open up again. (we can all hope atleast). :plsebeg:
  14. I probably would have said something like, " I understand that you're concerned about your wife's well being. I understand that she's uncomfortable. However, if she would sit still during the procedure she wouldn't have to endure it twice". With confidence but in a noncondescending voice.
  15. I should be starting my my nursing program in January. I read so much about this on here that it's scaring me! I mean I'm sure every school is different in terms of faculty. But is there any way to stand up to them without getting kicked out? I dunno. I just hope that I won't receive the brunt of it being male. But anyways I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this problem. I bet it's especially frustrating since you're a seasoned nurse. Well good luck and I hope it gets better!
  16. It's hard to predict what the cut-off will be. But for perspective spring of 09 was 5.583 and then fall of 09 was 5.593. So it only went up .01 between 2 semesters. I'm sure most people will take whatever they can get and choose both campuses.
  17. Well it's simple. There aren't enough masters level and up nurses to account for all the students. There are laws that state minimum teacher to student ratios. I'm not sure if its the same everywhere but here in AZ I believe its a maximum of 10 students per teacher. Just keep trying. You'll eventually get in.
  18. Ruby Vee, I thought your post was innapropriately mean. Not everyone will understand every joke. There was more than one person who did not understand that particular joke as can be see in earlier posts. People have every right to ask for clarification. Now I fully understand the phrase, "nurses eat their young". Sheesh. What a great way to discourage people from persuing nursing.
  19. Don't let anybody tell you you're making the wrong choice. Just because a certain profession is not what would make them happy doesn't mean it's the same for you. That's just one of my pet peeves when people project their desires on others. It should be about what makes you happy. I'm on my way to becoming a nurse. Basically I chose this profession because it will bring meaning to my life. I'll be able to say "I did something good today" after everyday of work. Also, I chose this profession because there are so many different areas of nursing. I'm sure there are many areas of nursing that I will hate but many I will love. The profession gives freedom of choice on what area or floor you want to work. As for being squeemish about wounds and bodily fluid, I'm sure you can get used to it. Especially when a persons life depends on your care. I believe that if you love something enough, you can get through any set back. Good luck!!!
  20. Why would anybody want that? Ofcourse there are people who will work for less because they are desperate. But once some employers reduce wages it will likely cause a slippery slope where all nurses start to make less. I'd rather compete for a job. Also, job and college class openings are different in every region. Some places it's difficult to get a job and some are easier. It might be in your interest to look into other colleges in your area. Or you could maybe take underwater basket weaving (lol) or some other elective class so you can have first dibs next semester on the classes you need?
  21. Arizona State University is completely based upon prerequisite grades and NET score. Very competetive but achievable.
  22. I applied for spring 2010! I'm so anxious for results! It seems like forever already since I submitted my app! My score is 5.760. I hope the cut-off doesn't jump much higher than it has been! Good luck everyone! :anbd:
  23. I heard that hair analysis drug tests are extremely expensive. Why would a hospital spend that kind of money for that?
  24. I believe physician assistants make more in regards to pay but keep in mind that a physician assistant certification is a masters program vs the BSN is a bachelors program. So a bachelors is needed plus prereqs for entry into PA programs.
  25. I don't know if you have already figured out this information but there is no waiting list at ASU. It is completely based upon GPA and scores on the nursing entrance test. It is out of 6 points (4 for gpa and 2 for net). It is very competetive. The lowest score that got in last semester was 5.593 out of 6. But with hard work and dedication it is very do-able. Good luck on your quest!
