No Nicotine!
Wow I never thought of the lozenges or the patches people need. I wonder if there would be a way to tell an employer you know just be up front and honest and say "I don't smoke but I am an ex smoker who uses nicotine gum to quit if I test positive that's why." Maybe you'd still have a chance? Anyway I am just not going to worry about it till I graduate anyway. We'll see how the job market looks then. Which reminds me my stupid brother in law smokes a lot of pot and stinks up the whole house. It makes me sick.

question about students dressed in medical uniform in my class
In our school dress code is scrubs whether you are in the dental assisting program, medical billing and coding, medical assisting, or nursing program you HAVE to wear scrubs every single day even when you are in a non-medical class. No street clothes, no casual clothes. Scrubs scrubs scrubs....so we get vouchers for two scrubs tops and two scrubs bottoms for free then we have to buy the rest. We know the difference in who is who by color. Dark blue scrub bottoms are nurses, maroon scrub bottoms are medical assistant, green ish scrub bottoms are dental assistants and light blue scrub bottoms are medical billing and coding. I don't know the other colors if there are any other colors in the school. They have a very strict dress code policy at our school. But in the case of your school you can just ask the scrub wearers what they do. They might be happy to tell you.

Why don't employers start lowering wages for nurses?
subscribing. This could get interesting. I just don't see why someone would want to go to college and pay 200 for the NCLEX and almost as much for the license to end up broker than a high school grad.

No Nicotine!
I don't know what to say. Its such a tough job market in the nursing field I guess they are trying to say "If you really want this you won't smoke" I honestly don't know what its about.

Dismissed from my program less than a week before finals!!! Please Help!
Congratulations glad you got back in. That school sounds jacked up especially with the competitive student she sounds nasty!

I've decided to blog about my experiences in nursing school from start to finish.
I read some of the quotes from the Yoder blog and I have to say it was very humorless and quite offensive if you ask me. OP: If you start a blog pm me a link I'll be interested in reading a collaborated blog.

No Nicotine!
I am sorry haven't been back. I have been busy as a bee studying for a test. Anyway I know I don't need to worry about it yet it won't be until 2011 when I graduate but my problem is the instructor said if they do a hair analysis even if you have second hand smoke around you then you can still fail the hair analysis test. So I will have to miss family gatherings and tell my husband to smoke outside which is cool but in the winter when its snowing like hell he will have to go into our attic. That's all I can say. Jobs are hard enough to come by without other distractions.

No Nicotine!
I actually talked to an ER nurse at a hospital while my niece was getting checked out after having a cop physically assault her (she was unarmed) and she said the same thing "You can't be a smoker if you work in a lot of these area hospitals." And we both looked at each other and her and I said "I don't smoke at all." And my niece said "All I smoke are cigarettes." And the nurse said "Not even allowed to smoke cigarettes if they decide to hire you." We were in shock but the orientation instructor confirmed it yesterday when she said that if we smoke now we might want to consider quitting at the end of the program because they won't hire anyone and she listed like most of the hospitals in the area and said Cleveland Clinic isn't far behind with the drug testing for nicotine. They said its not against the law to deny a smoker employment because its not discrimination. So a lot of girls said "Dang and I smoke." My husband smokes and I can merely choose not to be around him but his whole family smokes and they have family get togethers where I'd be surrounded by smokers but I guess at the end of the program when I am looking for work.....I can just let them know I cannot attend any get together type deals.

No Nicotine!
I start school next Wednesday and at orientation we were told that before you get hired at many of the hospitals you get your hair cut and checked for drugs including nicotine because they wont hire cigarette smokers. I don't smoke so it isn't a big deal for me but my husband smokes around me. I asked about second hand smoke and the insstructors doing the orientation said even second hand smoke can prevent you from getting hired if they find tracdes of it in your hair. So my husband is going to have to smoke away from me when I get close to graduation. I guess you'd want to quit out here because you can't smoke within so many blocks of a hospital out here anyway. I was just wondering if anyone else was informed that they'd have to quit smoking in order to get a job where they live? I don't have to quit because I don't but my husband is going to either have to quit or just not smoke around me.

Dismissed from my program less than a week before finals!!! Please Help!
Thats kinda why I wish I could have started school near by dad in Mississippi because ice storms wouldn't be a worry for me. Unfortunately for that whole thing I live in Ohio and its already cold. I can't picture what we have coming for us this winter but I hope to make as little excuses as possible when it comes to weather and show up but you can't always and that's my fear. Gettin hit with ice storms, hail or extreme snow and my husband is MR. Safety. He's the only one who currently knows how to drive and I'd get stuck at home having to call in if he said no way no how. To the OP: I hope you get your appeal. Good luck. I know shoes can be a non-issue when you have a lot of bills and a little money. I can see why someone can be in such a predicament.
